DF Reference Collection / Re: Series Spanning Plot Threads

*fishes for comments/compliments on the formatting*

All these sub bullets make the formatting a little tedious...  I origionally wanted the book bullets to be numbered, but It appears that adding the horizontal line code between them broke that.

Edit:  It appears that keeping the books bulleted retains the lack of spacing between the book and it's sub bullets though...  Remove the bullets for the books and they get a significant dead space added there.
I know you've put a lot of work into this already, and I'm not sure how painful it would be do change, but in the end, this kind of thing might be more readable if it was organized from the other direction.  Have a large plotline as a main bullet point; then put the details from each of the books where that plot was extended.  For example

White Council Vampire War
Storm Front
  • Harry uses the sunshine hankie on Bianca, causing her to lose control and kill her assistant
Grave Peril
  • Bianca teams up with Mavra
  • more stuff...
    • Harry starts vampire war by saving susan

      etc...

In order to keep it from getting quite so bulky, each of the plot lines could be done inside a spoiler type tag so people could just look at the one they are interested in.

The question I'd enjoy having an answer to the most at the moment is

Do all faeries have a weakness to iron and if so, has it always been that way or is it more like wizards and murphyonic fields?  What is considered iron/cold iron (i.e. is it the amount of iron that matters or some sort of metahysical signifigance)?

Are we considering the "executive VP of Creation" status of an archangel as qualitatively different from the scale of "used to be responsible for a significant chunk of creation" associated with capital-D Dragons ?  (I'm pretty sure Michael says something like this about Ferro in GP; can;t check the text now as I'm in work, alas.)
I can't check the GP text, but we do have this WoJ

Quote
6. ferrovax - is this because he's the OLDEST dragon? (i thought it was an empty boast) or because he's a dragon?
Ferrovax feels absolutely no need to boast.  It's because he /is/ a Dragon, large D, an elemental force of the cosmos.  He isn't some kind of Smaug hanging around a nice apartment.  He's a Dragon in a more Asian sense of the concept, a semi-divine being who was once given authority over various portions of the mortal universe, and who was responsible for their orderly procession.  There /are/ Smauglike dragons (though not nearly as many now as there have been in the past, thanks George!) but they are essentially nothing but emissaries and servitors created in the image of the real thing.
Regardless of big D or little d, dragons almost universally resent humanity for usurping the balance of power in the world.

Personally, I view "Senior VP of Creation" vs "Semi-Divine Being Once Given Authority over Various Portions of the Mortal Universe" as being peers, possibly peers as in Mab and Erlking are peers or possibly peers as in Mab and Titania are peers.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot? I think Elaine is due back about now.  If it isn't her, I predict Sith and Fix will be trading off in the role.  (Sith will step into Mouse's old role in combat and will hate every moment of it)

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?  Maybe Butters and Bob?  Harry will get to have multiple reveal moments.
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"? Princess Bride/LoTR are both manditory, probably Star Wars too; maybe a Frosty the Snowman "Happy Birthday"
c. Who will have the coolest reaction? Ebenezar (possibly not in CD); he will have found out some other way that Harry is back before Harry can surprise him.  "Aye, Hoss.  I didn't figure you'd stay out of the picture for long.  Ain't like you to leave before a job is finished."
d. Who will have the most touching reaction? Murphy; I think she will cry a little bit and then physically assault Harry, winter knight or not (you didn't say what kind of touching ;D )

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)? Harry will learn what is on the NN side of Demonreach (whether to take advantage of its power or not is probably one of the Choices that Harry will have to make); otherwise, Harry will beef up on his Winter Knight abilities for new combat maneuvers.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down? I predict CD to be a big chase book where Harry has to track down a Fomor with high enough rank and power to pose a threat to Demonreach under the right circumstances; whoever the big bad is, he will drop a few big hints about the actions and/or motivations of the Circle/Black Council.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?  Harry will have to decide whether or not the power behind Demonreach should be saved or not and if he can get around Mab's orders.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?  Prediction 1:  Fix will be at Mab's party along with a Gruff or two.  Their relationship will be tense at first then get closer to what it was before.  Prediction 2:  If Fix survives CD, he will remain Summer Knight until at least the BAT.  Otherwise, Elaine will be promoted to the position because of a background deal between two of the faerie queens.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?  The Fomor are knowing members of the BC while the Red Court was used by the BC just as much as the White Council.  We will get a clear idea about what happened and perhaps why in the assault on Arctis Tor in PG.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
Erlking gave the BC the wolf belts to give to the FBI agents in Fool Moon.
Murphy's faith will start to be restored in CD to where she's ready to take up Fidelacchius in Book 15.
Lash will be the parasite from GS and will be severely limited in what she can do, at least for now.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
Harry will want to visit Bob for a sounding board on what to do about the threat to Demonreach, and Sith will tell Harry the story about why Bob gets nervous around Winter.

Which Q&A did you get that from?
It was from Serack's WoJ list, looks like it's an unverified one from the 2011 Naperville signing.

Are there White Court Vampire Wizards/Sorcerers? What can you tell us about their power and skill compared to White Council Wizards?
Yep, here's the WoJ
Quote
'Are there White Court vampire wizards?'
Yes, there are. Thomas is middle-of-the-road in power and [ed: think I'm remembering this correctly] the strongest don't get as strong as mortal wizards [/ed], but they can pull off some strong tricks with their Hunger.

Okay then.

Also, I'm kind of impressed with the amount of questions you're asking, I'm probably the only one who's asked more. Which is kind of disappointing with the amount of veterans who should have years of questions stocked up on this board. :)
Veterans have seen the "I'm not gonna tell you" song and dance too many times  ;D

Are we ever going to see the Arkangel wizard base from a first person perspective?
Have we ever seen Mavra in person or has it always been through a corpse puppet?
Has Titania been doing as much scheming behind the scenes as Mab?
Who are Marcone's strongest allies in the supernatural world, i.e. has he branched out to more than just Odin's company and the Justice League of Chicago?
Does Ramirez have a deeper backstory than we have seen so far?
Can Lash only perceive what Harry can perceive, or could she for instance look on the opposite side of a closed door?
How many people that we have met so far were involved in the French and Indian War?

Is the Gatekeeper always a specific member of the Senior Council or is it like Eb being the Blackstaff where Rashid also just happens to be on the Senior Council?

*copying from Serack's thread

Do all faeries/sidhe have a weakness to iron and if so has it always been that way or is it like wizards and technology where things change every century or so?

Approximately how many different merlins have there been since the original Merlin?

Are any supernatural powerhouses (e.g. Odin) sandbagging their own power levels in order to interfere more directly in the world?

Is the 'Ancient' part of Ancient Mai an honorific or some sort of title/office like the Gatekeeper?
Same question with Thorned Namshiel?

I have posted a possible answer to the first question here!: Maggie LeFay and the Outsiders

'Course, I made that thread almost a year ago, so it'll be going away soon. Maybe I should re-post it or something, since nothing has changed to alter the theory since then.
If you add in some WoJ quotes and text references, you might be able to get this theory into the display case of theories that is being developed.

Serack's quote mentions Harry feeling like his back was against a glacier.  Just wanted to point out that Demonreach's limp was caused by a glacier.
Quote
Can you tell us more about the runes on the cottage and the lighthouse?
They were not put there by Demonreach; they have been there a very long time.  They are pre-Council.  They’re a prehistoric script, actually.  Harry could have figured out the script if he’d had the comic book. NOTE: I think this has something to do with runes on a wall in Under City seen in Welcome to the Jungle

Also, people have a few things wrong about the Gatekeeper and the island.  The Gatekeeper did not hurt Demonreach.  Gatekeeper has been on the island a couple of times, and it’s never gone well, but he didn’t cause Demonreach’s limp.  That’s the work of the glacier that carved out Lake Michigan.

So, just wondering, was the glacier in question related to Mab perhaps?  Or am I just reading too much into things?

Btw, nice catch Albion, and welcome to the forums!

Question/Query/Idle speculation:  In Ghost Story, Molly mentioned kids being taken from the homes at night.  Given the brazenness (ch. spelling) of theese attacks, might not these be the first creatures not necessarily bound by threshold limitations?  Or would it be better to assume the work of mortal agents or possibly the idea they lived in apartments/rented housing with weak thresholds?
You could assume the Formor's mortal flunkies that seem to be everywhere, but thresholds are not 100% able to keep out the big bads.  Mostly they act as a metaphysical screen keeping out a certain portion of your supernatural ability.  Some creatures, like ghosts, have a hard time keeping themselves together with that handicap, but not everyone gets completely stopped by a threshold.  Remember in Storm Front how the frog demon charged into Harry's apartment despite the threshold?  Plus, somehow the fetches got into the Carpenter home in PG.

Jim likes to mention that he's a lazy writer and doesn't like to waste characters that he's already developed.  Mouse's kidnapper used summoned help from the NN.  Hmm, doesn't that sound a little familiar?  What other practitioner do we know that works for hire and likes to use primarily summoned muscle?

I think we should start looking at Binder more closely as a candidate for the kidnapper.

Someone had to have arranged for the puppies to be kidnapped.  It's not too much of a stretch to assume that the BC had a hand in the scheme (what evildoer wants a litter of foo dogs in his backyard?), and Binder has a history of working with the BC in Turn Coat.  A puppy heist seems just his speed from the background that we get for Binder.  He's a careful guy but limited in the precautions he can take.  Harry does a little mundane investigating to figure out when the kidnapper went out for dinner, but would that involve a good enough look to identify him?  Plus, the kidnapper could have been using lackeys to help out if Harry did identify anyone involved in the heist.
