DF Spoilers / Re: Molly and the guy in black
« on: July 10, 2018, 07:39:11 PM »
Consider for a moment what JB has done to date. Were I a woman in Harry's life I would buy life insurance and wear body armor, he's bad ju ju for the women in his circle.   The count is three Ladies, ,one girlfriend and one fallen angel(or a shadow copy anyway).   And the mothers of his children should be very afraid.  He's two and oh on that score.  And that is not to mention Murphy being used a a punching bag or Anastasia Luccio being mind controlled and subjected to a body swap.  Oh yeah, and getting his apprentice a mantle she didn't want.

I personally think that Murphy should get her affairs in order and that Harry cheating on her with Molly should be the least of her worries.  Whatever Molly once was she is now subject to control by the Queen, and she is keeping secrets.

DF Spoilers / Re: Could the Blackstaff Cure a Warlock of Corruption?
« on: July 10, 2018, 12:09:49 AM »
My read of the Black Staff was that it was attempting to corrupt the user while it was being used.  Almost as if the staff had it's own existence.  I don't think it wants to cure anyone of anything.

That means the accent tells us more about Harry than about the prisoner.
It might tell us that Harry is an anglophile.

The original merlin spoke old welsh, why would he have a english accent?
Well, because Dresden doesn't speak old welsh. ;)

More seriously in my admittedly twisted reasoning, it places his origin, the UK.  He also uses the phrase, "Go away, boy."  And if my mind hasn't completely failed me, Ebenezer uses similar syntax a couple of times. As in this example from Changes.
Quote
“I want you to help save millions or billions of little girls, boy,” he said, his own voice dropping into a hard, hard growl. “Not throw them away for the sake of one.”
And Ebenezer's diaries and those of the Master's in his line, begin with Merlin, don't they?

It's thin, and I'm open to other alternatives.
There are many theories on that one.
Can you point me at any?
its James Marster being punished for not being available to do the voice work for the audio Cold days.
I could have sworn that in my audible copy, James Marsters was reading.  Who knew?

Working on the assumption that Butcher doesn't throw out random noise, why does he point at that particular prisoner?  Is he perhaps the original Merlin?  Or someone else of importance?

DF Spoilers / Re: Juxtaposition, Who fixed LC?
« on: July 03, 2018, 11:04:37 PM »
Slight correction, that was Summer Fire, not Hellfire Harry threw, which was given to him by Lily.  So either Mab was working with her on that, or Mab didn't control every aspect of everything.
Oops. :-[  I stand corrected.  Maybe.  But isn't his fire always laced with hellfire while Lash is on board?  Another thing to check with my next rereading.  If he doesn't get Peace Talks out soon I'm going to have My Dresden library memorized. :-\

Good point, it would have been Mab filling in for Lea's obligations.

I think it's pretty likely that she fixed Little Chicago too. Lea set up her garden on the NN side of Harry's apartment and protected him from tons of threats. Since Mab was required to fill in for Lea's godmother obligations for years, she almost certainly would have been familiar with it.

And Fae can get through thresholds if they mean no harm (and I don't think Harry's wards would have stopped a direct NN entrance from Lea's garden).
There wouldn't have been a threshold from the never never, would there?  And in any case Mab was pulling Harry's strings from the beginning, wasn't she?  Up to and including Rashid's knowledge of Black Magic in Chicago, possibly.  Plus.

“That’s the part I can’t figure,” I said. “I think someone set Molly up to be a beacon for the fetches. And I’m damned sure that it was no accident that those fetches took Molly to Arctis Tor when it was so lightly defended. Someone wanted me there at Arctis Tor.”
And Harry was the only person Mab could control, who could toss the Hellfire, which would force her troops from the borders thus giving Summer a chance to intervene for the Wizards.  And showed Harry his first look at Nemesis through it's possession of Lea. ;)

DF Spoilers / Re: Dresden and Mab's Future
« on: July 02, 2018, 08:04:47 PM »
This is a post on Reddit, not my own theory.  I ran across it and found it very interesting. It basically says that Harry has fulfilled one of the conditions of becoming Mab by giving birth to Bonnie.
Sooo....we know from Cold Case that at least the Winter Lady's mantle stops from getting pregnant, because she has to remain a Maiden to be the Lady. If she became a mother, she would be the Queen. We also know that the Queens' mantles can transfer to someone holding the Knight's mantle if another Queen isn't around to grab it. We ALSO know that Mab was mortal once ("I was mortal once."), so the Queen's mantle can transfer to a mortal.
Given Dresden's ongoing rant about preserving his agency I'm having a hard time understanding why he wouldn't go out of his way to avoid becoming the Winter Queen.  She has no free will.  I thought Butcher had been explicit on this point.

I had assumed that he might lose the Knight's Mantle  when Mab is killed at some point.  But that is just me guessing.

DF Books / Re: In this lifetime

I won't live to see the end.  That's okay.  Neither will I live to see my great grandchildren grow up.  That's less okay.  It is what it is.  I'm suffering from series fatigue in any case.  I've made up my own endings just in case, and will adjust as he does whatever he decides to do.

I'll believe the Peace Talks is close when the cover art placeholder dies the death it deserves, replaced by real art.  Currently I'm spending my time doing an internal betting pool with my Id about who dies before the end.  Worthless but amusing.  Y'all carry on.

Is speculation about Mr Butchers personal life really fair game here?  I wouldn't like it if I were he.  He's written 16 or so books and he may just need to recharge and take a vacation.  Maybe Mab has inserted a ringer who can't write, for the real Jim Butcher.  Maybe he's finishing the series in one sitting so he can be done with it and move on to his Steam Punk series. Maybe, maybe, maybe. :D
