Well, I'm not sure about selling out on Day One, but I'm going to be scraping the funds together for this in the next month or so.

Been looking forward to this for a while, and I want to play it.

A lot.

DF Books / Re: Did you discover the books because of the TV Show?
« on: October 02, 2009, 06:09:20 AM »
I'd have to say I found out about "The Dresden Files" book series because of the TV series, but I started reading the books before the show itself premiered.

I remember that the Sci-Fi Channel (back when they spelled it a little different) had had their concepts for new series kicking around posted on one of the entertainment news websites I was perusing. Basically they were just description of what each show being considered for pilot, would be like if they went to series.

So, based on nothing but that description of the series, it's main protagonist and a general summary of the basics, as well as the posibility of James Marsters as the lead... I right then decided I should look into this series and give it a go. Promptly afterward forgetting all about it.

So now, Flash forward to 1 week before the TV series is set to premiere on Sci-Fi, with a different actor and everything.

I see an ad for the series and am suddenly reminded of my initial interest.

Realizing I had yet to read ANY of the books in the series, I immediately got in my truck and went to the bookstore.
After purchasing the first novel, I went over to a friend's apartment to hang out, and I started reading Storm Front. (While taking turns at Mario Party & DDR)

Two hours later, I was back at the book store (w/ friends in tow) and then leaving with the remaining 6 books up to and including 'Dead Beat'.

And a week later when the show premeired, I was already half way through 'Grave Peril' :-)

I'm so, so, so, glad I got to read the series first. TV show was good, but the books are better.

Since then, I've recruited 12 other people who are just as hooked as I am. (ie, In line, on opening day.)

A map of Alera?

Hell yes!

If only I'd known about the series back when the first 3 books were available in HC... sad.

Are the links down? or is the site?

Genuinely excited to hear these?

Thanks for the effort guys. Butcher Block was sorely missed. So any reprieve (however brief) is wonderful.

I get the impression that the Podcasts are DEAD.

So sad.

I'd love to go to this as I'm a fan of David Weber's Honor Harrington novels as well as Jim's Work, but I'm based out of Nashville, TN and I can't get anyone similarly inclined to make the drive with me.

Anyone planning to take pictures or post a recap/summary of what goes down?

I'd just enjoy some semi-regular discussions on various topics and critiques on new stories and how they go down.

For example, I really enjoyed the 'Tavar' angle in Princep's Fury.

It's also possible to do Disscussions about the Growing Cast of Dresdenverse Characters. How they're seen by readers, what we're thinking as a result, blah blah blah.

I don't know... it's really easy to do Podcast Discussions based on Television Episodes, but books SEEM to be more intimidating and harder to wrap one's head around.

Of course, I've honestly given up on any new podcasts, considering the time commitments of most of the players involved, etc. etc.

Oh well, fun while they lasted. It was nice to have a news wrap-up all in one place, but even that has gone by the wayside.
