Title: Fudge Dice
Post by: badmojojojo on July 05, 2010, 05:44:50 PM
Having a hard time finding these online. Im specifically looking for the GM's Fudge Dice pack and everywhere it seems "out of stock" or sold out.
Any idea where to pick this up?

Any idea if Evil hat plans on releasing Dresden unique Fudge dice?

There used to be several retailers with the GMs pack online, they all seem out at the moment.  Guess all those Dresden
RPGs hitting the shelves overwhelmed the market for the dice.

You could always use a sharpie to alter standard d6s.
http://www.fudgefactor.org/2001/12/01/babys_first_fudge_dice.html

My local game shop sells blank d6s for $0.19.

Either should hold you over until more Fudge Dice get stocked.

Paizo has the GM pack in stock as of last week.

My gaming store doesn't carry blanks.  However, on a trip to a store geared towards teachers (and religious types - I guess we in the south think that those things go hand in hand) and found a plethora of blank dice.  They sell them to math teachers for number games.

I don't know if they were quite 18c cheap, but they were pretty affordable.  They also came in the highly auspicious quantity of four blank d6s per pack!

Paizo has the GM pack in stock as of last week.

They're currently listed as being on backorder.

The Deryni dice pack is available right now. They're a set of four black Fudge dice and a set of four white ones, selling for 8.10 USD (discounted from 9.00).

Other than that, a quick search found very little of assistance.

Those of you without Fudge dice can always try die rollers. There are Fudge specific ones out there. Anything that can support 4d3-8 can output dF results; I use rolldice when I don't have my dFs on me.

I did find the Deryni dice but I'd rather get the GM pack (4 different colors so each of my players can use their own color).
I guess I'll wait till its back in stock. I imagine it will at some point soon.
I'll just use my regular d6 for now. Thanks guys!

Somehow i don't really see the problem...

http://www.fudgerpg.com/retailers.html

some of these retailers are out of stock, but several carry the player's packs with 4 dice each, and one or two even have the GM pack still in stock.

Also, you could point your FLGS at GreyGhost and ask them to order some for you.

And if everything fails... GreyGhost even offers the possibility of direct orders.

I know they sold all they had at Origins and Fred said he was taking the 200-some he had left to DresdaCon. Just a matter of when Grey Ghost can restock now.

I just poked around those sites, and I found one of them had exactly one GM's pack in stock.

Grey Ghost's site doesn't say whether they have the GM packs in stock or not. They mostly seem to want to shunt you to Warehouse23, which is out of stock.

The player's packs cost 5 bucks for 4 dice (plus/minus, depending on where you order). That'd be 25 bucks for 20, instead of the 15 for the GM pack, which is a pretty substantial difference in price.

The GM packs really are the way to go for a group playing a FATE game. It's just way more convenient to pick the things up in this format.

a pentacle or a bob-skull for +
and a snowflake for the unseelie court or a denarius for -

or something like that... i bet you are tons more creative...

I can see all four being different or 4 sets ...

For the last, probably a gun and a staff (or gun and spell, whatever).   ;D

Pentacle or Fangs? Normally the Fangs will be negative but were-creatures and vampires can treat them as plusses :)

I think I got one of the last GM packs but the Deryni dice are in stock here:

Plus I found this online roller:

Custom dice get expensive but here is a link for one such site:

Custom can be expensive, but worth it if you really want something specific.  I had some done by Chessex a couple of years ago for a Buffy game.

Not so bad if you go in with your whole gaming group.  It's $3 a set if you order 7 or more sets at once.

The funny thing about crystalcaste pricing is that  26 dice are more than five bucks cheaper than buying
25 dice.  Who in their right mind wouldn't save $5.50 and just order one more die, even if they just toss
it in the trash when it shows up?

you could pull the yellow dice out of a Zombie dice game

you could also take out 2 of the yellows and add 1 green and 1 red die

We had a thread on this a few months ago.

1. Fred isn't willing/albe to invest the money on dice at this time.

2. There were some places that quote custom dice. Typically, they charge by the die plus by the face, which would be slightly cheaper than some custom dice because of the two blank faces.

3. I'd buy a set or ten!  ;D

I will have to check them out at Gen Con this year.  I think they did a promo die for the 2008 Gen Con and they make some darn fine looking dice.

The Cthulhu and Munchkin dice rock as well.

I've been searching for Fudge dice in my area (and everywhere else I've been recently), to no avail.
For the time being, I've downloaded the full version of the Dicenomicon app for my iPhone ($4.99), which allows me to not only rull Fudge dice, but can also do custom dice roll macros for other games, such as HARP, D&D, HERO, GURPS, etc. Quite handy.
I have one more possible place where I could find a set -- Game Parlour in Chantilly VA. I'll hit there when I get to Manassas after my Ocean City MD trip comes to an end this Saturday, and before I head back to MA on Sunday.

Might want to check your numbers.  In quantities of 26 to 99 dice, Crystal Caste charges 85 cents per side.  That means each 18mm die will run $3.40 (assuming two blank sides).  That means each set will cost $13.60.  Now, they'll be awesome and completely personalized to your gaming group, but that's pretty darn expensive, if you ask me.

They'll be a little cheaper if you go with 16mm dice, at 75 per side or $3.00 per die (again, assuming two blank sides).  That's still twelve bucks for four dice.

Now... if we could all bundle up the cash and make a purchase from Chessex in bulk, we could get them for as little as 37 cents per side (which is still a pretty spendy $1.48 per die, mind you), but we'd need to order over 1000 dice (that is, 250 complete sets), and we'd have to agree on the same colors and symbols.

They can be out of stock everywhere because there was a run on them, and the restocks are on the slow boat from China to Boston. When they arrive, they've got to be packaged and then shipped off to distributors, who then need to send them out to stores and such.

We had a great idea this weekend while making characters down during a power-outage in a beach-house.  One of my players was complaining that the dice hated him and were too random.

I realized that if you take a deck of 54 playing cards, put + on 18 of them with a sharpee, - on 18 of them, and leave the other 18 untouched, and just deal out four cards per action, you have a wonderful little substitute for the fate dice.  All to the tune of one dollar no less.

That's what they said at DresdaCon.

Fred described three sets of dice I believe.  I may be crazy but I believe they were (1) glow in the dark (ectoplasm), (2) clear with red interior specks, and (3) clear with blue interior specks.  One of those might've been yellow interior.

Anyone else that was there can correct or validate this?

Until any official DresdenDice come out, getting blank dice and customizing them is the most fun idea. :) Blank dice are dirt cheap at my local gaming store and it gives me an excuse to get some fancy permanent markers.

true. but I'm prettysure the original poster was looking for the GM pack (which has 5 sets of dice in one pack for about $12-$15), as I myself am.
The ebay auctions (though the stock pictures are misleading) are for single sets. And at a cost of roughly $4 +$4 shipping per set, and needing 1 set per player. I'll just use regular d6's and do the mental conversion until I find something more reasonably priced... I mean, they don't even look like high quality dice.

there are 4 yellow dice each has 2 shotgun blasts,2 run away, and 2 Brains

if you want you can pull 2 yellow dice out and ad 1 red die(3 Shotgun blasts 2 run away and 1 brains)
1 green die(1 shotgun blast 2 run away and 3 brains)

I wrote grey ghost press and asked about this. A very nice lady named Ann wrote back and said she had placed an order with the manufacturer 3 months ago, the order is now several weeks late. In the meantime she has only white fudge dice, and not that many.  However, she found a spare gm pack laying around and shipped it to me ($15+$5s&h).  I also ordered the dice directly from a UK supplier (thediceshoponline.com), buying the individual dice to get a gm pack cost me $30USD (but they are a present so w/e).

I searched for "fudge dice" on eBay and saw those stock photo auctions, but also found 10 auctions (http://shop.ebay.com/ineti/m.html) from another seller who's selling sets of Fudge dice separately, but the auctions end in like 10 minutes.

I got a Deryni pack of black and white dice a while back and they're solid dice--at least as solid as Chessex dice.

You should be expecting to see a lot of Fudge dice hitting the shelves some time soon. Ann of Grey Ghost has gotten in a shipment of about 52 thousand of the things. I helped her pack up some GM packs a couple of weeks ago, so I've seen them with my own eyes. They exist and will be out in distribution as they get packed up.

We talked about the Dresden specific dice, and she said she expected them to arrive in the next couple of months. I think she said October, but I might be misremembering. I got to play with some of the Hellfire dice, and they're pretty cool.

So just be patient for a little while longer.

If you do try to make your own, ala the link someone provided above, do be aware that permanent marker rubs off in ridiculously short order.
One of my players felt clever the other night when we were doing chargen and he handed me a set of fudge dice made with permanent marker he'd made during the chargen.
I sighed. Smiled. Told him thanks. Then pointed out that I'd done this before and the ink would be gone inside a week.

Next week, first game session, I tossed the dice on the table and he exclaimed "Good god! What'd you do to those?" I shrugged. "Playtested a little over the course of the week."
The ink was nothing but smeared remains.

I'd tried this before. Fudge Dice are not easy to make with sharpies.

There is a dude from Britain on eBay selling them. He shows the 20 pack, but you have to read the description as he mentions once that the auction is for four. It's a bit of a swindle, but he knows that they're rare right now and so he's price-gouging for as long as he can.
