DF Spoilers / Re: Theory question KoTC killing Immortals/Mantles
« on: April 15, 2018, 01:50:46 PM »
I don't think Dragons and demons have mantles that are meant to pass on after they die.

Most like an "on mission" Knight could end a Fae monarch any time of the year, but their mantle would just pass on to the nearest next candidate as usual. Actually ending a mantle is probably one of those things Heaven technically has the power to do, but would be contrary to their goals to maintain equilibrium in reality.

DF Spoilers / Re: Ghost Story's Lash

I like to think that the words whispered in Harry's ear at the end weren't by Uriel - he just told the tiny bit of Lash still within his head to say them.

Oh, that's a good one.

Captain Jack's door guard Amitiel also deserves some consideration, I think.

DF Spoilers / Re: The way male writers describe women
« on: April 12, 2018, 06:47:40 PM »
The interesting thing for me is that the person writing the files is Harry. So his descriptions of the women fit perfectly well with his personality. But Aftermath was quite well written from a female PoV (IMHO). I don't remember Thomas descriptions in Backup, but I suspect he is not as...teen ager as Harry is.

Thomas can't very well afford to dwell on beautiful women being beautiful, given his situation. But Molly's POV in Bombshells and Cold Case didn't seem objectifying (some people might have problems with the portrayal of Winter ramping up her sex drive in the latter, but it still beats Harry's personality change in CD). I think it really is a character issue rather than the author's actual outlook leaking through into the writing.

DF Spoilers / Re: The Well of Demonreach and the White Council?

but I recall that Ebenezer, Listens-to Wind, and the Gatekeeper seemed to appreciate Demonreach for what it is, Ancient Mai seemed clueless, Luccio might know something, and I don't think we have had any indication on Langtry's knowledge about the island.

Ebenezar made sure Harry would notice his journal entry that Langtry wanted Harry put under surveillance as soon as the others reported that he'd claimed the island as a sanctum. Even if he doesn't know the whole deal, he knows significantly more than Harry did at the time.

DF Spoilers / Re: Which Denarian Coin would you choose?
« on: April 11, 2018, 12:10:59 AM »
Ursiel seems a bit more willing to work with people, or is he just in this once case.  We don't really know enough about all of the Denarians to make any kid of decision.

Unconfirmed, but I'd lean towards assuming it varies somewhat based on the host's personality. If the Fallen who normally prefer domination run into a host who matches their particular flavour of cruelty pretty closely, it's not like the Fallen can really force them into doing something they're 100% down for anyway. Like that Supernatural episode with the nutjob killer who'd been exorcised of a demon but really liked being a host and wanted it back.

I haven't either, but I don't think Harry was familiar with that particular subspecies of bigfoot until meeting the Genoskwa, but I think in general bigfoots are of this world rather than a nevernever species that visits from time to time. The comparison of bigfoots and ramps occurred to me too, but I don't know quite what to make of it. Absent any contradictory WOJ I'd tend to put the Genoskwa under the same category of "less evilly satisfying than corrupting a human" albeit compatible.

Ursiel's interest there was probably that a superior tank build was more important at the time than the satisfaction of corrupting and enslaving a mortal.

Which is probably wrong, as I think the Outsiders and Old Ones wish for Creation to return to the Nothing from which it was made. It is too loud and bright and noisy.

Relatable old guy Cthulhu just wants those annoying teenagers with their shitty music to get off his lawn.

White Court I could definitely see.
Red Court...unknown. Half-turned reds like the Fellowship, Susan, and Martin, I bet could do it.
Black Court, I'm guessing not, though that's pure speculation based on them being dead, and thereby not suitable as vessels with living Wills.

Part of the point for the Fallen is to corrupt a mortal soul. So I agree the Black Court are right out.

Half-ramps and wamps are probably also candidates, although I'd guess the Fallen could probably purge the demonic presence if the bearer chose the Fallen over the other influence and the Fallen didn't want to share its proverbial Dixie cup.

Full ramps seem like a grey area. We're not really sure whether the soul entirely leaves the building when they turn (Susan remaining willing to be sacrificed suggests it's not instant). I'd gather the Fallen could probably bond with one in a pinch, but given how far they've already corrupted themselves, a rampire is probably less of a notch in their hellish bests to corrupt than a mortal human.

really we don't have much information about the fallen to make a decision.  The only one we have interacted with much is Lash, who isn't even a fallen.  We can make some assumptions about the fallen, but maybe Deirdre's Fallen was cooperative because of who the host was and that usually she just overtakes her host.

I doubt Nic would have chosen a coin for his daughter whose Fallen was categorically unwilling to treat their bearer as a partner and insisted on outright domination.

Not Imariel. Also a commander.

Plus, very possibly Nem-fected. It pretty much has to be one of her, Rosanna's coin, or Namshiel.

DF Spoilers / Re: Mr Sunshine has wiped out universes before. - WOJ

But I get what you're saying.  It's a question of raw ability versus leverage.  Arches have the raw ability to destroy universes.  The Mothers don't.  But they do have the leverage to get it done.  Both are power of one sort or another.  They're not the same, but the result is.

I think when Lea said in SK that the Queens and Mothers had power to rival the archangels, she simply doesn't have much of an idea how powerful archangels actually are. Which is an understandable mistake to make since how much of their power they can actually use is very limited in normal circumstances, and she simply hasn't been privy to any of the "aw shucks, time to wrap up this universe" circumstances.

Plus, she had the athame at that point. She could have just been lying, although I don't even see a reason doing so there would benefit Nemesis.

That's not too surprising.  If an alternate timeline is a parallel universe, and it falls to the Outsiders, who could possibly traverse timelines like others apparently can, then one successful invasion would jeopardize all universes.  We don't know how many splinterverses there are, but even if there's only a handful, sacrificing one for the rest is a (distasteful but) acceptable loss.  Like gangrenous limbs removed to save the rest of the body.

Besides which, having your universe destroyed his way is probably a mercy kill compared to actually experiencing an Outsider invasion first-hand.

Also, what's with the sudden screenshotting of WoJ?  Can we not provide links to the original source?  Because I can fake a screenshot of WoJ that says whatever I want with no problem whatsoever.

They might be from a private facebook group that non-members can't see even with the link.

DF Spoilers / Re: Is Mac God?
« on: April 06, 2018, 03:43:48 PM »
I don't think Mac is God because I think he'd be more active in the Denarian story line.  It would be very subtle, of course.  But he seems more involved with the Sidhe, Outsiders, and Demonreach possibly.

Involvement with the Sidhe fits the Manannan Mac Lir theory well.

I don't see it. That maenad in the short story really put one over on Mac. It's one thing for him to respect mortal free will, but I don't see Mac letting a supernatural being mess with him like that if he had omniscience and omnipotence going for him.
