DFRPG / LFG in Des Moines, IA
« on: July 02, 2010, 04:38:36 AM »
Ya, good ol' Des Moines! Center of....Iowa. Blech.  Anyway, if there is anyone interested in Dresden Files RPG here in Des Moines let me know either on the forum here.  I've got a friend or two already up for a game and we'd probably be playing at Mayhem on 72nd and University although I'm not opposed to meeting at a house.  Lets get it going!

DFRPG / Re: Silver Warden Bullets

Wouldn't it be more in keeping with the original idea to make a gun that imparted the dispelling effect to its ammunition rather than crafting each bullet individually? I agree it would have to be a low-tech level weapon to get around the whole wizards and high tech issue but a nice simple revolver should be fine.  Also, regarding the idea of bullets with different magical effects I'd have to say be careful with those as to me it looks like you'll be skirting the edges of the first law pretty close. Depending on the local warden you might end up with a close shave if you ever hit a mortal target with them.

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Origins this year and I picked up the Dresden books there. I was informed that I could get the pdfs but how do I do that?

Sort of similar to the Accords Interpol idea but my thought was to have everyone in my group play Wardens in Harry's area (or allies at least, like True Faith peeps or limited practicioners) and have him send them on Paranet calls that he can't deal with at the moment because he's a bit busy setting buildings on fire. Again.

Telekinesis: pretty much self-explanatory

Empathy: all mental and emotional stuff

Farseeing: any precognition, remote sensing, sendings, force guidance and the like.

Illusion: creating standard illusions, concealing your force presence, deceiving various sensors, invisibility, projecting phantoms

Body Control: force jump, speed, strength, controlling internal functions, healing, poisoning and plagues, paralysis, stasis, alchemy

Energy Manipulation: force lightning, drain energy, shocking droids, redirecting heat/cold, incineration, weather control

Spirit: enhancement of objects and places with the Force, sever Force, force Light, spirit transference, drain life, calling dark-side spirits and other effects of sith sorcery (Force Undead!!!)

Why not just go the simple route of

Control: force jump, speed, strength, controlling internal functions, stasis, redirecting heat/cold, controlling emotions, concealing force presence,

Sense: farseeing, telepathy, deceiving sensors, invisibility, projecting phantoms, creating illusions, empathy

Alter: force lightning, drain energy, shocking droids, incineration, weather control, healing, poison and plagues, alchemy, enhancement of objects and places with the Force, sever Force, force Light, spirit transference, drain life, calling dark-side spirits and other effects of sith sorcery (Force Undead!!!)

That should cover it although we could quibble about what goes where and things like alchemy and sith sorcery could be pulled out into their own.  Might be worthwhile to have another category like Unite or Blend for abilities that use two or more disciplines together. Deceiving sensors for instance could be seen as a comb of Sense to find the the devices and figure out how to break them and then Alter to short out circuits or fiddle with the power flow.

DFRPG / Re: Dresden Themed Fate "Tokens"

A company called Dragonfire Laser Crafts does lots of custom etching/engraving/woodburning and they love doing work for gaming stuff.  The guy who owns the company is a being Living Arcanis/Chronicles of Shattered Empires nut and did a ton of stuff for that campaign. www.dragonfirelaser.com is the website, could probably get a set of tokens cheaply.

Madness of Angels is quite good and definitely on par with Jim's work. Its not quite as in depth in the characters and motivations and such but the setting and writing style are very engrossing.
