DFRPG / Thorn Manacles
« on: January 20, 2011, 04:26:48 AM »
I'm playing in a game wear we use the Thorn Manacles quite often, but I've searched both the RPG books and couldn't find a way on how to run them in game.

So my question is this, how would you run the Thorn Manacles in game?

Side question, do you think the Manacles prevent the practitioner from opening their Sight?

DFRPG / Channeling and Enchanted Items
« on: December 29, 2010, 05:53:00 AM »
I'm having a small dispute. Can those with Channeling make Enchanted Items? And if they can not, why not?

I'm almost certain this has been asked before, but I can't find it. Thanks in advance.

DFRPG / Recovery Powers and Taking Consequences for Rituals
« on: July 22, 2010, 01:01:28 AM »
I'm currently looking into rules about Thuamaturgy (I finally have a reason to do so beyond simple crafting). For taking consequences to power rituals, what happens in the case of spellcasters with Recovery Powers?

Example: A Spellcaster has Great Lore (+4) and Supernatural Recovery, he decides to make a 10 shift potion. While making the potion he decides to take a Mild (+2) and Moderate (+4) Physical Consequence to help pay for the effect, but because of Supernatural Recovery he is fully healed at the end of the scene.

This Spellcaster just got a 10 shift potion effect for the low, low price of one enchanted item slot.

I may have missed something in the rules, but is this just one of those situations where the rules can be badly abused?

DFRPG / Quick Question about Refinement for Sorcerers
« on: May 18, 2010, 02:09:21 AM »
It says your able to take Refinement once for Evocation and once for Thaumaturgy.

Does that mean, unlike Focused Practitioners, you can't take Refinement unlimited times for Focus/Enchantment slots?

DFRPG / Compilation of Focus/Enchanted Items: Post Your Own!
« on: May 15, 2010, 06:09:54 AM »
In this thread we post and discuss our awesome Focus and Enchanted Items, discussing and compiling their badassery.

I'll start, both of these were made for my Sorcerer/Wizard Faraday Church.

Sword Cane Blade (+2 Offensive Control for Earth); The cane is covered with runes and lightning designs carved into it to enhance and control Earth Evocations. On the pommel of the sword (or head of the cane depending upon your perspective) is a small copper pentacle. The focus is just the blade and hilt (head of the cane); the scabbard is not required for the focus to be “whole.” Weapon:2 (Sword) or Weapon:2 (Baseball Bat)

Lightning Gun [Colt 1911] – Earth [lightning] Evocation Weapon:4 x 7 Uses, roll Guns to attack. Usable by anyone. (5 Enchanted Item Slots); The gun gathers ambient electrical energy and focuses it into bursts of deadly lightning Instead of bullets in the gun’s magazine, it is filled entirely with a chunk of rune inscribed copper. Although Faraday made the weapon, the gun is not powered directly from him making the lightning a more normal electric blue color rather than the greenish lightning Faraday wields when throwing around evocations.
Base Strength 4, 3 slots for Uses, 1 slot to make it usable for everyone.
Notes: More or less Rule of Cool on this one, it’s a gun that shoots bolts of lightning! I used an older gun, which because of the enchanting can no longer fire bullets, it’s uses per session reflect the normal magazine size for a real Colt 1911.

DFRPG / Help stating a custom power - Cassandra's Warrior
« on: May 13, 2010, 06:24:07 PM »
Quote
Cassandra’s Warrior [-2]: As Cassandra’s Tears, but with the Spiritual Guidance effect of Guide My Hand and the Arcane Senses effect of The Sight. User only gets visions of things he might be able to interfere with (distance and time to interfere effect the maximum spatial range). These visions are typically related to future supernatural events or attacks, though the visions may occasionally involve the non-supernatural. The visions may happen at anytime and are usually accompanied by a massive headache (temporary aspect that lasts for one scene).

I tried to base it on The Visions that Doyle and Cordelia have in the Buffyverse. Originally it was just Cassandra's Tears with Spiritual Guidance and I thought it was a -1. After adding in Arcane Senses I thought it might need another -1. Is -2 too much or not enough?

Other thoughts and suggestions?

DFRPG / Soulfire and the Hunger Bar
« on: April 29, 2010, 11:37:30 PM »
I remember a couple days ago about a discussion of White Court Sorcerers using the Hunger track to aid in spellcasting or using it as a "Ki bar" for using "Ki Powers"

Has anyone considered using the Hunger bar as a Soul Bar? To equate feeling worn down as Harry describes after using large amounts of Soulfire? The Feeding Dependency for it would be the things Bob describes in Small Favor, having fun, time, living, etc.

Though I would use a different skill than Discipline for the "Soul." Conviction would probably be better fit for the "Soul."

DFRPG / Duels between mortal Practitioners and the Law of Magic
« on: April 28, 2010, 04:44:21 AM »
I'm not sure I've ever seen this discussed. But what happens if two mortals duel to the death under the Accords using Magic as the weapon?

Would the winner get Lawbreaker (First) and have the Wardens wanting to serve his/her head on a platter?

This is probably a "Up to the GM" situation, but I was curious what the rest of you thought.

DFRPG / Stats for a taser?
« on: April 22, 2010, 07:27:43 PM »
I'm curious what a taser would be stated as?

I suppose since it doesn't do damage it'd be gun that does a maneuver attack?

DFRPG / Shake the Tail stunt question

Shake the Tail: When you are the one being followed in a car-chase, you have a real talent for sudden turns and daring maneuvers to shake off your pursuers. Gain a +2 to Driving in such a case.

Is the +2 bonus to driving added for every roll or just tacked on at the end total?

For example, my say the person with the stunt is in a Cat and Mouse car chase and has Great Driving

He rolls 0, 5, and 7 for a total of 12. Would I add the +2 to each roll and get 2, 7, and 9 for a total of 18 OR would I only add the +2 once for a total of 14?

DFRPG / What counts as Cold Iron?
« on: April 17, 2010, 11:59:13 PM »
Cold Iron seems to be one of the most common catches, but what exactly counts as cold iron? I mean are all bullets cold iron?

I tried searching Your Story, but couldn't find much mention of it.

DFRPG / Trick Shot Artist
« on: April 17, 2010, 06:41:55 AM »
I was looking over Marcone in Our World and found his Trick Shot Artist stunt interesting

Trick Shot Artist (Guns): When attacking with Guns, +2 on the roll for shots taken at things (not characters), such as ropes holding chandeliers, etc. (Particularly effective when used with Taking Aim)

Could this be used to Disarm someone Lone Ranger style? ;D

DFRPG / What Skill for Writers and Photographers?

My gut tells me it would be Performance, but I could see the argument for a Writer using Scholarship.

DFRPG / Question about guns EDIT: Guns Akimbo?
« on: April 13, 2010, 04:28:49 AM »
What are Harry's guns stated as? Early in the novels he uses a .357 magnum, later upgrading to a .44 magnum. I was wondering if either of these count as Weapon:3 "Oversized Pistols" or Weapon:2 pistols.

I'm currently stating up a cop character that uses SIG Sauer P226 with .357 SIG ammo, I'm not the best expert on guns but I think that's more or less equal to a normal .357 magnum.

I really wish there was a quick Q&A thread for asking simple questions, I didn't think this deserved it's own but I couldn't find a similar thread to ask.

EDIT: Are there rules for using guns at the same time? Or would one take a stunt similar to the "Off-Hand Weapon Training" stunt on page 156... but for guns instead

DFRPG / WC & Focused Practitioners? *Updated Enchanted Item Question*
« on: April 09, 2010, 12:28:48 AM »
Are there any requirements for joining the White Council? For instance, could a powerful Focused Practitioner join?

Can a Focused Practitioner have a Wizard's Constitution or the Soulgaze ability?

Why can't a Focused Practitioner use Refinement to increase the power/control/complexity of their Channeling/Rituals?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*UPDATED* I'm attempting to make an enchanted defense item somewhat similar to Harry's coat.
I've got 4 Enchanted Items slots and Good(+3) Lore, I want to make a collar/necklace that creates an always-on Earth-based electromagnetic field to STOP incoming bullets of most handguns of at least all Weapon:2 (Which means I need Armor:2?)
I think I can do this by using 1 slot to make the item, and 1 slot to increase it's strength to 4. Then I halve that to make it always-on... so it has Armor:2, but only the character that made it can use it?
Would I need to do something special to make it so it only affects metal?
