I think we have a good candidate for Mavra in the form of Kellyanne Conway... Sorry if that is too political.

Just an add on thought here...

So, we always talk about Mother Winter's Walking Stick as the being's stick not the position/title/mantle's stick.  It would seem to me that the easiest way to get the stick would be during a transition of mothers.  That would imply that the current mothers were replaced at the time of Hastings, thus leading to the promotion of Mab, etc.

There is a WoJ if I remember correctly, that says Mother Winter is the original one, and that Mother Summer has only changed once, and that was due to the original one abdicating.

DFRPG / Re: Vampiric Mental Attacks
« on: November 09, 2016, 07:41:03 PM »
Hey everyone,

It has been a little while since I posted a question, but recently I got to think a little more about mental attacks, the variety of mental attacks, and the targets of these types of attacks.

Question #1: Are White Court Vampires immune to attempts by other White Court Vampire uses of their Invoke Emotion ability? This may have been covered in the books, but I can't seem to recall if this was ever stated explicitly.

The rulebooks does not say, but we do know from the actual Dresden files-books that they are most assuredly not imune. The one time we see it on stage is in the "Bigfoot on campus"-story.

I did write. :)

Just handed in my entry for a writing contest for a Steampunk convention this coming weekend in Gothenburg. I made the deadline with about 2 minutes. No, the entry was nowhere near as finished as I wanted. But that's what happens when ones muse has obviously vanished into thin air... I need a new one. If only I could write the proper ad.

small question lets say harry mixes soulfire and hellfire in same spell to attack bad guy of the book. what happens they fizzle each other or somehow harry learns how to create universe

for experiment harry has lash(lashciel's shadow ) with him

If I understand it correctly (based on an old WoJ) then you can't mix them. They are 2 sides of the same coin, and only one type can be used at the same time. Besides, Harry does no longer have access to Hellfire.

Btw, which is the main difference between FATE  CORE, FAE  ando DF?

Well Fate Core and Fate Accelarated (FAE) is the next version of Fate after Dresden Files. Think of them as generic rulessystem while Dresden files and Atomic Robo are extremely tailored to their settings.  The FAE is the bare-bones light-version of Fate Core.

In Fate Core and Fate Accelerated, each skill is based upon attacking/defending/creating and advantage/overcome (not all are applicable for each skill). They are also made so you will have a certain amount of stunts. Basically they are designed for a fixed powerlevels. The Fate Accelerated will then not even have skills, but rather 6 different approaches on how you approach things (Careful, Clever, Flashy, Foreceful, Quick, Sneaky).

DFRPG / Re: Magic Maneuver Question
« on: September 13, 2016, 05:27:26 PM »
I was referring to this example from the Your Story:

During his turn, the perp tries to use Athletics to remove the aspect (get himself out of the corner); he makes his roll and gets a Fair  (+2). Murphy doesn’t want that to happen, so she rolls Fists as a defense to keep the thug there. She gets a Superb, and the aspect remains.

My understanding is that the the perp in that question tried breaking out from the hold Murphy had on him. She had already succeeded earlier in placing it. What she did now was just to counter his squirming to get out of it.

Look at this way:

Round 1: I try to grab you to put you into some kind of painful hold (a chokehold, an armbar, or one of the wristlocks from aikido). You defend against as you don't want me to put you in such a situation. If you successfully defend, then I don't get the hold.

Round 2 (assuming I succeeded in getting the hold): You try to twist your body in such a way that you get out of the hold. I need to follow with how I apply the hold, or you will get free. If I succeed, I still have the hold. If you succeed, you have negated my hold and we will have to start anew from round 1 with me trying to apply a hold.

We had a Djinn.

The Djinn, was a fae from the Bronze Court, but like all djinns she had free will, but were tied to a lamp, so whoever had the lamp could order her to do things. She couldn't fix things with magic instead she would have to find "mundane" ways of fulfilling the orders. Like someone asked for a sword, she would switch over to the never never and then buy/trade for a sword, and then return with it. The problem, well, if we are being nice, she was a few cantrips away from a spellbook. Meaning she was totally clueless.

In the begining of the campaign, her master was an escaped monkey who had been the victim af animal experiments... Later one of the other player characters became her master, but when he figured out that he could control her through the lamp, then it was stolen...

I really profoundly dislike the mechanical issues, particularly aftereffects.  Some badass went toe-to-toe with a Ghoul or a Vamp or what-have-you, and wound up Taken Out... Consequences will take a while to heal, but he'll survive.  Fine, we're good.

Someone went toe-to-mind with a wizard who Slept him, and got Taken Out.  Once the victim wakes, there should be no consequences or "healing" time!

Just walking over and shaking them awake should un-do everything; the same should NOT be true for the victim of a Ghoul-mauling!

Definitively agree with that sentiment.

Hey Nerhesi,

I think the example Sleep spell provided by Ulfgeir is not a Mental Attack, but rather a Physical attack that can result in a "sleep" outcome.

Correct. The spell I put forth was meant to go against the physical stress track. The part of it that some can consider "iffy" is that it was resisted by endurance or willpower instead of athletics. The thinking by that was that you don't really dodge the spell like you might do a visible fireblast, instead your body tries to shake of the effects of sudden fatigue.

The character I play she doesn't want to harm people, so her combat spells are spells that will stop people, prefereblay so she can get away or get time to do a quick veil (Molly-style).

The other spells that character had was a windburst that would knock someone prone, a force-cage that would keep them from moving, a hyper-awareness spell that she can cast on herself to sense her surroundings better and the Quick veil. As I have said previously, she extremely foucused on divination and combatwise, well she makes Molly look like a heavy hitter.

Wouldn't a sleep spell be resisted by Endurance?  Is the sleep spell defined as an attack that imposes sudden physical fatigue on the target, or is a mental command to "go to sleep" (in which case, it's lawbreaking)?

I used conviction OR endurance... Some people have the physical stamina to stay awake, and others have the willpower to just keep going no matter how tired they are.  Up to the GM which he wants to use. The spell I used induced sudden physical fatigue.

Here is the Writeup of the Sleep-spell my character uses. One of her rote-spells:

Sleep spell
Type: Spirit evocation, Attack
Power: 6
Target: 1 target in line-of-sight, inflicting physical stress
Duration: One action
Opposed by: Target's Conviction or Endurance skill, magical blocks
Effect: Target suffers fatigue, and will fall to sleep if taken out.

The power is 4 from Conviction + 2 power from a focus ring.

So the general consensus is that you can't do Spirit Evocation Mental Attacks? Something like that would then fall under Thaumaturgy, right? What about a Sleep spell? Could you have a combat sleep spell using Spirit Evocation or would you need to do a Thaumaturgy ritual/spell for that? Would a sleep-type spell even be considered a mental attack?

I think you can have a sleep spell, sadly  if I recall correctly fatigue (as in getting so physically tired that you fall asleep) is specifically listed as being physical stress on YS201.
The character I play in the campign I play in, does have such a spell. Causes no damage, but rather fatigue and if you are taken out, you fall asleep.

If they took Involuntary/Rare Change, sure. Simple Human Form wouldn't have such an issue.

I did say MIGTH even be nasty enough... It would depend on who had made the item, and why it was made.  *evil grin*  <insert GM discretion>
But human form isn't that supposed to be for when something NOT human uses it, and assumes a human form so they can blend in. It doesn't exactly make sense for a human to have.
