The Butcher Newsletter
« on: August 01, 2025, 07:33:29 PM »
Quick question for everyone. I got the initial 6 welcoming newsletters, but I have not received anything since. Has anyone else got a newsletter beyond the 6 initial ones?

Hi Mira,
This new, just opened up last month or so.  There's a link on Jim's page. So far just the six emails. Includes a complete reading list with books, short stories,  graphic novels,  micro fictions and novellas. And a link to a AMA, quite a few questions,  not lot of answers.

I think there's the introductory set enqueued for auto-send as a "welcome package."  I don't expect to see tons of stuff thereafter... News when there is news (which usually there is not).

Hi, weird because what you described is exactly what I was getting a while back.  Wonder if it was something they had for a while, stopped for whatever reason, were trying again and it still didn't work out?  When you think about it someone has to take charge and do it.  That takes time, access to Jim is helpful, is it volunteer, or a paid position?  All the above factor into a good newsletter, what is more a good newsletter that actually comes out regularly with actual news and not rehashed stuff.  I think it was something they tried to bring back and possibly ran into the same problems they had before.

I'm not subscribed to the newsletter, but someone in Reddit said some days ago that the newsletter announced that Jim had married  :)

Yes, to a fantasy writer known as Jennifer Blackstream (not sure if that's her legal name; would be surprised if it's her birth name).

A new edition of the newsletter was received on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

Key takeaway is that it asserts that Butcher is "writing like an absolute fiend" and that the following are scheduled for release in 2026:  Twelve Months, Out Law (Dresden novella), and Mr. Petty (short story in the anthology Paranormal Payback).  No release dates given in the newsletters for any of those (though obviously we know Twelve Months').  Newsletter hints that maybe there might be something more but I'll be hoping that means he's working on the Dresden casebook that follows Twelve Months.

Also a few AMA Qs and As but nothing of real significance.

Thank you.
I read something about a short story with Goodman Grey, probably Mr. Petty, I did not have a name.

I'd love to see another story with Grey.

One the interviews I saw said he hopes to finish the book he's writing now this year,  I think that would be the next Steampunk?

Jim has been pretty clear that his plans for the foreseeable future are to alternate writing novels in the Dresdenverse and the Spireverse.
(except I think he says he plans to write the BAT in one big push, without intervening novels)

Obviously, all such plans are subject to change!

I don't know if it is in the Newsletter, but Jim will be making a live appearance at Dragon Con in Atlanta in two weekends.  Jim hasn't made made many live appearances this year.  I know he cancelled a scheduled appearance at a Con in Chicago this April.

Should any Paranet Online members be attending Dragon Con, please try to record at least one of Jim's panels and post it for the rest of us.  In any case, hopefully Jim panels will be posted on YouTube shortly after Dragon Con finishes up this year.

It won't be many more months before (possible) book store appearances and signings for Twelve Months might be announced.
