Do Changelings Have Souls?

Now about fae ... I believe they do still have their entire soul.  I believe that it's nature has changed once they become Fae, but they still have it, and since it is so different from that of a Human Mortal wizard, they just can't match up enough to have a "soul gaze", if that is even a good name for it.

Sorry, I just cant buy that.  If that were the case, Being like Bob would be able to directly See it, and so there would be no question or misunderstanding with regards to the popular Knowledge.  The Soul is not a hypothetical, it's a verifiable fact.

jonas:
Of course, they couldn't choose otherwise. No soul no change.

At the same time Harry goes out of his way not to look certain Fae in the eye. Vaderrung is fae as Santa but he has his to be 'mortal' doesn't he? He actually mentions not wanting to trade a soul gaze with Mab at one point. A lot of the things 'stated' early on are starting to look iffy in places. Not sure quite what to believe there. Possibly the difference is specifically, faeborn/changed vs holder of a fae mantle, where-in the mantle itself lacks soul and the bearer acts as the fuel/changer/decider within the spirit of the mantle. Like Harry co-opting the WK mantle for his own purposes via logical bullying. (He's one of ours via Butter, that it understood) Makes me wonder, is Mab cold and logical, or is the person who calls herself Mab cold and logical?

I understand that there is a WOJ theorizing that they might maintain some tiny fragments buried deep enough, but for all practical in-world purposes it's gone.

And more broadly, while I know there is a lot of philosophic wrangling (both in world and around here) about the nature of the Soul, about it's implications and functions and whatnot.  But there is No Doubt Whatsoever that there is a Soul and who does and does not have one, because beings like Bob can just look at you and directly SEE it (to the point of identifying where individual chunks came from).  This is not an abstract, this is verifiable fact to the character.

I agree with you and that is for me one of the biggest problems with a Lady.

I did at first, mostly because I was picturing it like a Spirit leaving the Body, something that just goes poof and is gone.  But it sounds like it's not an instantaneous thing, even though it's still inevitable. One theory I saw around here that I really liked was the simple mechanism that the Mantle/Mortality prevents the Host from regenerating their own Soul naturally as people normally do, and since bit of soul go out with every spell and hug and whatnot, the Immortal is now suffering permanent if slow rate of Soul-loss, and without lots and lots of supplemental Soul from outside sources like hugs from mortal Loved Ones (relatively rare in Sidhe society, methinks), the Immortal's remaining Mortal Soul will eventually leak away.

Oh Crap, this isnt in the spoilers section *Edits for vagueness*  I have to keep an eye on where I am  :-[

Dina:
Yes, that is why I was vague myself. I didn't see the previous version of your post, but I like what you wrote.
