Skin Game Predict-a-thon. [All the latest Spoilers permitted and encouraged]

<< < (4/23) > >>

maleclypse:
1.  Nic is trying to get something to regain the loyalty of the Denarians.  Most of those that were loyal to him have died in recent conflicts and their coins possibly held by Tessa.
2. I am betting there is a specific trap to Hades vault that requires a mortal (churchmouse), and another that requires a mortal+ (harry).
3.  Nicodemus will almost definitely recruit Rosanna, I too believe that she will make a choice.  I am torn as to whether that choice will be killing Sanya or dying in his place at some point in this novel.
4. It would be great if Harry were forced to choose Fix.  He could learn more about the mantles and Fix could go off on his own attempting to resurrect Lily.
5. Sanya will be present.  Michael will help Harry pick a replacement for one of the swords.  Probably Fidelachus.
6. Mab hates repaying favors in ways that she doesn't wish too.  Nic delights in calling in favors that pain the giver.
7. Lash, This whole book is greek mythos.  I wouldn't be surprised if Skin Game is partially a play on getting skin for Lash.
8. Odin is trying to get the greek pantheon to be more active.  Poseidon could do a number on the fomors if he chose to. (edit) I think the twist might be that Nic is trying to put Denarians he can't trust into the vault.
10. Harry will specifically refer to one of the denarians we have not seen before with abilities involving a swarm of rats, The Rat Pack.

Lind:
1. We have been told that Nicodemus has a very specific target in mind, ostensibly kept in the Labyrinth of Daedalus.  What is Nic trying to get his hands on and why?

What to be filled in later.  Why?  Nic believes the Outer Gates will fall and "the end" will come.  He thinks the object will be a useful bargaining chip that will let him survive "the end".

2. Nicodemus apparently called in a marker from Mab to get Harry on the team.  Does he have a specific plan for using Harry or did Mab twist his request?  Which of Harry's capabilities will he admit to needing, and (given that this is Nicodemus after all), which abilities is he scheming for Harry to use?

Specific plan for Harry
He will admit to needing access to Demon Reach for it's Nevernever connection.
He will admit that he needs Harry to do something that only a mortal who has crossed the bounds of death and returned can do... only when they get to the situation requiring it.
He is scheming to have Harry use Soul Fire and for it to have disastrous consequences for Harry but beneficial consequences for Nic.

3. Jim has mentioned that the book will be "Ocean's Eleven".  Who else did Nicodemus recruit?  How will they interact with Harry?

Shagnasty - Antagonism as Shaggy gloats over what he did to Harry last time and that Warden or not now, he still has plans for Harry
Anna Valmont - Playing damsel in distress who got roped into this again until the reveal that she is Lasciel's new host
Binder - Gruding play nice attitude with Harry.  Dribbles hints about what else was going on during Turn Coat.
A High level Fomor Operative - Harry's introduction to the Fomor and the main series gateway peek into what the Fomor are doing with the people it is abducting
Marva - Plays her cards close to her chest and doesn't do much more than unnerve Harry.  Her presence however tugs at the strings at the back of Harry's mind that put together Black Court and Outsiders.

4. Harry's general method of operation is to call on his friends for help.  In this book, Harry is (initially) allowed one extra backup member on the crew.  Who will it be?  Which of Harry's other allies will "interfere" before the plot is over?

Mouse as the initial backup (see tie in to 4)
We will see Sanya, Michael, Murphy, Daniel, Kincaid, The Archive, and Molly in direct ways.  Marcone indirectly

5. This is a Denarian book, so (unlike the last "end of the world" showdown), the Swords will almost certainly be present.  In fact, there have been various hints...  Which Sword wielders will appear in the next book and how will their interference/help affect the plot?

Harry grabs Mouse and warns Michael both about what Denarians are up to an possible threat of parasite in Harry's head.  Michael spreads the word to get the swords on the job.

Sanya and Murphy wield the swords faithfully.  Daniel gets involved wielding one but is not ready and screws up.  At the end of the book Michael is off the bench getting Daniel ready to perhaps try again.

Although Dresden means to get them involved to help him get out of the mess he is in, they get involved too early and Dresden is going to have to face off against them until he is done with the job and can turn on Nic.

6. Mab is apparently against Nicodemus succeeding in this heist.  In the Cold Days, we found that Mab had complex reasons for wanting Harry to kill Maeve.  What are Mab's reasons in this book?  Is it simple thwarting or is there something deeper?

See 1.  The Macguffin is going to be outsider related and Mab wants it too in her own way.  So she is going to show Hades her competent Starborn Winter Knight who probably is going to need to borrow it someday...

7. At the end of Cold Days, Harry needs to stay on the island to keep his growing headaches at bay.  The start of Skin Games implies that those headaches will need to be resolved by the end of the book.  Who or what is causing those headaches, and how will the whole thing get resolved by the end of the book?

Lash is causing the headaches.  Molly is going to transfer Lash out of Harry and into - To Be filled in.  Anna/Lasciel?  Persephone?  The Macguffin?

8.  One of the key components of the "Ocean's Eleven" movie is that there is a final twist/reveal.  Given that we've got Nicodemus, Harry, Mab, and potentially Hades (and who knows who else) all trying to get the better of each other, if there's one thing you can count on it's some sort of last minute quintuple-cross.  What will be the nature of the twist and how will it all fall out?

Twists in order

Anna revealed to host Lasciel at a very bad time for Harry.
Harry revealed to be jotting things down keeping the Archive in the loop.  An angry Archive and Kincaid being Harry's final ace in the hole.
Hades revealed to know the entire thing was happening and letting it play out to test vault security and see it's weaknesses.  Final result of that being a thanks to Harry and a mention that he might need the Macguffin later.  Secondary reveal that Marcone consulted in the matter and Hades owes him a little something...

9.  (Extra Credit) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards, some crazier than others.  Write up to three WAG theories (or make up your own) you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Skin Games.

Anna Valmont as Lasciel's host.
Black court on the side of Nemesis
Fomor on the side of Nemesis

10. (Extra Credit) This is that "free form" question where you can come up with anything else you think will be in this book.  Specific quotes Harry might say (will he actually quote Ocean's Eleven?  The movie will have come out already in Harry's timeline)? Tidbits about the White Council? The fate of Molly? Write down anything you want.  Note that whatever you write must be specifically mentioned or hinted at in Skin Games in order to be worth credit.

To be filled in.
Something something Odin psychopomp something something having Thorned Namshiel's coin.
Something something Persephone something something.
Something something Uriel something something.

SAZ:
Good fun - thanks Knnn

1. We have been told that Nicodemus has a very specific target in mind, ostensibly kept in the Labyrinth of Daedalus. What is Nic trying to get his hands on and why? The item will be something out of mythology, but it will have a heavy JB spin on it – kind of like how JB made Excalibur one of the Swords of the Cross.

– Soul fire and/or Winter Power

3. Jim has mentioned that the book will be "Ocean's Eleven". Who else did Nicodemus recruit? How will they interact with Harry? – Other nickelheads. A Skinwalker, Lashiel with a new host. The Church Mouse. Also an insider; someone from the mythos who lives in or works with Hades. Charon or Thanatos perhaps have become disgruntled with their boss. Also Rakshasas have been mentioned in other books, so I'll go with one on Nic's crew.

4. Harry's general method of operation is to call on his friends for help. In this book, Harry is (initially) allowed one extra backup member on the crew. Who will it be? Which of Harry's other allies will "interfere" before the plot is over? - Karrin will be Harry’s first choice as #1. If she can’t, I see him asking for Thomas or maybe Mouse because Mouse spooked Nic a little in SF.

5. This is a Denarian book, so (unlike the last "end of the world" showdown), the Swords will almost certainly be present. In fact, there have been various hints... Which Sword wielders will appear in the next book and how will their interference/help affect the plot? – We will see Sanya, and Karrin will show up using the sword of faith.

6. Mab is apparently against Nicodemus succeeding in this heist. In the Cold Days, we found that Mab had complex reasons for wanting Harry to kill Maeve. What are Mab's reasons in this book? Is it simple thwarting or is there something deeper?

Well it is Mab, so she has to have at least three reasons or goals.

*The first is clear and on the surface; it is to keep things stable in the supernatural community.

* Mab wants information about, and revenge on those nickelheads involved in PG and of course any nickelheads who might be involved with outsiders.

* As you will read below, I am putting a lot of my chips on there being a background scheme between Mab and Anduriel. It could be almost anything, so I can’t really say, but I do have a favorite, although unlikely idea I have listed below.

7. At the end of Cold Days, Harry needs to stay on the island to keep his growing headaches at bay. The start of Skin Games implies that those headaches will need to be resolved by the end of the book. Who or what is causing those headaches, and how will the whole thing get resolved by the end of the book? – The Parasite is the source of the headaches and Molly is at least indirectly involved with the parasite’s growth resulting in its need to get out of Harry’s head. Also the parasite is a damaged/modified Lash (yes WK Lash did become independent form Lashiel). Molly will have to be involved with the removal of the parasite to help insure Harry’s safety.

*There are likely to be more than one. For starters one or more of Nic’s crew will try something on their own – in essence backstabbing Nic.

*Nic will try one last recruiting or team up effort on Harry. When Harry turns him down Nic will try and get Harry in trouble with, or to strand Harry in Hades.

*Harry will first and foremost try and keep the heist item away from Nic or any of Nic’s team members. Harry, who in recent books has demonstrated he is not afraid to call archangels, or visit the Mothers, or have a beer with Odin will go to Hades himself and work out a way to back stab Nic with Hades help.

* Look for Anduriel to do or say something unexpected.

*Lashiel and her host will of course try to kill or at least screw over Harry.

9. (Extra Credit) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards, some crazier than others. Write up to three WAG theories (or make up your own) you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Skin Games.

*Mab and Anduriel have something cooking on the side that Nic is completely unaware of, or Nic has been misinformed about (it might be that Anduriel wants to dump Nic, and wants Harry to be his new coin bearer... but it could be something else).

*Nic will realize or be reminded by the end of the book Anduriel doesn’t give a rat’s bottom about Nic, and that he has been a tool of Anduriel’s. A special tool perhaps, but just a tool all the same.

*We will learn that at least one fallen is working hard on getting freed from their coin.

*Harry will get to exchange words directly with Anduriel… Nic won't be happy.

*Michael will be tested in an epic Old Testament sort of way… however we may not official know that what happens to Michael in SG is a test until a book or two later.

*Considering how smart Mab is, and how smart Nic/Anduriel are, and presumably how smart Hades should be… all that forethought and foresight and intellect working against each other might just get all tangled up into a great big mess. This might be the first book that ends in a way that will surprise the crap out of everyone and makes them all say “What the f*@K” in surprise or puzzlement… or invoke a collective “Oh shit”.

*One of the regular team Harry members will end up with a coin, or at least touch a coin and end up with a shadow of a fallen.

*JB hasn’t made Harry suffer enough. So I think it is time for a love triangle! I mean Harry has problems with relationships or would be relationships involving just one women. Make it two, and well, Harry will wish he were dead again. It will likely involve Karrin and Molly, but I could also see it being Karrin and someone else.

kazimmoinuddin:
1. We have been told that Nicodemus has a very specific target in mind, ostensibly kept in the Labyrinth of Daedalus.  What is Nic trying to get his hands on and why?
Part of me is thinking that nic is after teh 11 coins taken from demonreach, lost in the escape. Also, i am wondering if the church has happened to lost their coin collection, and it is now in hades vault. everyone is talking about the spear of destiny, but  what about the seal of solomon? there are plenty of god artifacts to get the apocalypse started.

SOul fire, winter mantle, map of the ways from mommy, necromancy knowledge. EAch would be useful. Harry was born to be starborn, on the day that immortals are vulnerable, that may give him some help.

3. Jim has mentioned that the book will be "Ocean's Eleven".  Who else did Nicodemus recruit?  How will they interact with Harry?
More than likely most villains harry fought against that still live, so to ensure that while harry may attempt to screw him over, most of the team just wants him dead. SO binder, kumori(I think like mab, cowl would send his help in the form of a representative), ghoul assins, BCV, formor, rakshasa, fomor, grendelkin a whole host of bad guys. eleven coins was in the bag tessa took, so it would pay for eleven to cross the river.

4. Harry's general method of operation is to call on his friends for help.  In this book, Harry is (initially) allowed one extra backup member on the crew.  Who will it be?  Which of Harry's other allies will "interfere" before the plot is over?
My bet is kincaid or thomas, thomas as he trusts him, and kincaid as he would be eager to mess with the nickel heads. THey are experienced in dealing with monsters, and are unlikely to become denarian knights themselves.

5. This is a Denarian book, so (unlike the last "end of the world" showdown), the Swords will almost certainly be present.  In fact, there have been various hints...  Which Sword wielders will appear in the next book and how will their interference/help affect the plot?
THe sword can only defend the innocent, I really dont think the archangels would approve of a vault heist, so any sword power will be limited. I do see them being part of Harry's plan, send a message to get them to meet him, so just as the bad guys go for the kill, the swords turn up, and take a litle of the top.

6. Mab is apparently against Nicodemus succeeding in this heist.  In the Cold Days, we found that Mab had complex reasons for wanting Harry to kill Maeve.  What are Mab's reasons in this book?  Is it simple thwarting or is there something deeper?
Denarians aided in the strike against her, and the black circle is responsible for so much, she is looking of ways to cause them pain.

7. At the end of Cold Days, Harry needs to stay on the island to keep his growing headaches at bay.  The start of Skin Games implies that those headaches will need to be resolved by the end of the book.  Who or what is causing those headaches, and how will the whole thing get resolved by the end of the book?
SAy at some point harry goes temporarily ghost, the the spirit could slip out.

Remember in turn coat, how harry had this whole trap set up on the island, but as a back up plan he had a kid with a camera waiting in just the right place. I think dresden may have a whole complicated plan, where all the bad guys are going to attack each other, but as back up, he is going to plan for either him or the bad guys to be where they have to be at a certain time and take advantage of it. Most likely, using the island/ or mabs gift to best he can.

9.  (Extra Credit) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards, some crazier than others.  Write up to three WAG theories (or make up your own) you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Skin Games.
I am hoping for treasure for all, Harry is in need of some funds, so could be very useful.

I am really hoping some of the coins get locked in the well, the same for the skin walker. While it is possible nic may know that dresden is the warden, the other bad guys might not, and it is the perfect place for a trap. THe parasite will be reveled and dealt with, possibly imprisoned or used as a weapon.

Icecream:

1. We have been told that Nicodemus has a very specific target in mind, ostensibly kept in the Labyrinth of Daedalus.  What is Nic trying to get his hands on and why?

Umm not sure, I was thinking a client of Hades will be the target then I thought, hey lets see what google has to say about Hades and something involved with skin and it came up with the Cap of Invisisbility which makes the wearer invisible to other supernatural entities apparently, but that's a pretty nifty item maybe Harry needs to get that before he actually robs the real vault.

Well we know that Nic knows of Harry's potential outsider baneness and wants him on his team for that so I'm guessing his main goal of working with Harry is that. I'm also thinking perhaps Nic knows Harry did return from being dead and this has attracted the attention of Hades (Vaderung said he had done so with certain powerful entities) and wants to use him as a distraction or trade to get want he wants. Hades has to be pissed off about Harry cheating death.

3. Jim has mentioned that the book will be "Ocean's Eleven".  Who else did Nicodemus recruit?  How will they interact with Harry?

Ummmm.... Mostly things that hate Harry and one surprise who doesn't.

4. Harry's general method of operation is to call on his friends for help.  In this book, Harry is (initially) allowed one extra backup member on the crew.  Who will it be?  Which of Harry's other allies will "interfere" before the plot is over?

Kincaid. Harry calls him up pointing out that he did not in fact fulfill his promise so he still owes him one.

5. This is a Denarian book, so (unlike the last "end of the world" showdown), the Swords will almost certainly be present.  In fact, there have been various hints...  Which Sword wielders will appear in the next book and how will their interference/help affect the plot?

Murphy with Fiddelacchius (sp?). But in doing so she dies then gets a job offer from Monoc.

6. Mab is apparently against Nicodemus succeeding in this heist.  In the Cold Days, we found that Mab had complex reasons for wanting Harry to kill Maeve.  What are Mab's reasons in this book?  Is it simple thwarting or is there something deeper?
Like I said, if he's getting the cap then he will be able to sneek past her defenses, which she probably doesn't like the idea of.

7. At the end of Cold Days, Harry needs to stay on the island to keep his growing headaches at bay.  The start of Skin Games implies that those headaches will need to be resolved by the end of the book.  Who or what is causing those headaches, and how will the whole thing get resolved by the end of the book?

Honestly, have no idea, going to take a guess that it's something on the island trying to escape introduced to Harry's head in SmF.

Oh golly gosh. I have no idea I'll just take a random guess. Ebeneezar will be on the team, we will have a fomor on there, because Nic's been shown to work with them in the past (those cat things) and they'll bring on some creatures made to work for Nic but really only obey them. Helen Beckitt  will be shown to be aiding Nic and co to somehow screw over Marcone and the whole Demeter thing has to tie in there somewhere.

9.  (Extra Credit) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards, some crazier than others.  Write up to three WAG theories (or make up your own) you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Skin Games.

It's a WAG for a reason. Anduriel is Kincaid's father, don't ask me how that's possible. Might explain some of that Animosity we saw between him and Nic at the aquarium. And then at the beginning of SG Mab points out that Nic/Andy brought their "spawn" along with them last time and requested symmetry, so what if it was Kincaid that he took and then Kincaid can come along this time and he has a good reason to screw over Nic and work with Harry to get back at abducting the archive.
Oh and of course we also know Kincaid is not completely human.

Um Karrin will take up the sword of the cross against Harry and company, die then be offered a job at Monoc .

Umm don't know I feel like some SC members will make an appearance, merely because we haven't seen much of the council in the last few books.
