The wikipedia entry on Mab says she was first mentioned by Shakespeare. Do you know where she was mentioned before that?

the name is a more modern spelling of  maeb, which is also the name for morgawse

shes from 1st century bc celtic myhtology, the goddess of war and magic; in some variants shes a part of the morrigan

They all come from old Irish Medb, the queen of Connaught.

I always thought it funny that Mab's daughter Maeve just had a more modern version of her own name.

they are two sepperate entities with simillar names in the mythology; one is a goddess, the other legendary queen
