Who Lives In Nevernever?
« on: September 01, 2012, 06:46:19 PM »
I know there are several mythologies in the Dresdenverse, including Greek, Norse, Irish, Egyptian, and English. I was wondering, since demons and fairies and apparently dragons live in the Nevernever, do the old dieties have their own pocket of the nevernever? Or do they have their own plane of existance?

When we play, the Nevernever is EVERYTHING that isn't the mortal world.  Even the afterlife is in there somewhere, but it is as far from the mortal world as you can get.

We just finished a romp through Greek mythology, hunting down Hipolyta's Girdle so the Amazons would direct us to the Temple of Orpheus and we could plead with him to ask his father to allow us to travel through Dream and return home.  In the meantime, we got lost in the primordial forest and helped Reynard the fox escape the wild hunt whilst simultaneous pissing off Monoc by killing a Gullinbursti which we thought was a Caledonian boar.

Now I have to make Detroit more exciting.

But this is just in our game.

Yeah, it seems that in the DV 'all myths are true' to the extent that if it's in mythology, it's probably in the NeverNever.

Unless there's a Law pertaining to it, or it's found in the mortal realm, then it's probably found in the Nevernever.
Even Chaotic Neutral individuals have to apologize sometimes. But at least we don't have to mean it.

In one of the earlier books I know Harry states that heaven, hell, Valhalla, tartarus, olympus can all be found somewhere in the nevernever.  It's a common writing mechanic that let's the writer do pretty much whatever they want.  This crossed over to GM's in game.  If you want something to be in the nevernever, it's there somewhere.

In theory tulpas exist there also : beings created by pure thought or belief.

Any construct made by thoughts of mortals.  If enough people beleive in an entity or fictional character it is likely somewhere in the nevernever.  This includes comic book heroes, horror movie monsters, video game characters... and much more.

As I understand it, if it exists in Myth, it exists in the Nevernever. I think at one point Harry even speculates that Heaven and Hell are out there somewhere.

Does that mean that Narnia and Neverland are in there somewhere if people believe in them hard enough? Or even the version of Disneyland that kids dream about?

I was pretty sure Neverland is where Jim got the name for the Nevernever.

Could very well be, although it is quite different from the island of pirates, indians, and ticking crocodiles I remember from the movies.

So EVERYTHING fantasy is in the nevernever? Just thinking about that is starting to hurt my brain. All those pocket dimensions...

There's an interesting conversation Harry has with Uriel. Harry mentions that Star Wars and Spider-Man aren't real, and Uriel's response is essentially to shrug and say they might be real somewhere.

I'd forgotten which book it was from, but still I hardly think that bit of conversation is a such a big plot point that it has to be spoiler tagged, unless you think it's foreshadowing that Harry's going to run into Parker in a later book.
