Oh, google Cooks Source.  There's tons of stuff out about it.  Neil Gaiman and John Scalzi tweeted about that yesterday.  Just from those two alone, websites get crashed.  One thing I'd mention is that it's not really plagiarism, the article did credit the original authors.  Lots of the blogs and articles are calling it plagiarism, though it's more copyright infringement.

But yeah, that was just really stupid of them to do.  Apparently, at some point yesterday/last night, pictures and recipes on the website got removed and replaced--people were going through to see what else had been used without permission, and they found stuff from Paula Deen and Martha Stewart.

Borrowing from either of those ladies without permission is like hitting a dragon on the tail with a sledge hammer.
I wanna be in the next Universe when they find out.
And the woman who wrote back is gonna be very, very sorry when life comes crashing down on her.

I love the Schadenfreude Pie recipe that John Scalzi posted in response. I MUST EAT THAT.

The actual cooks source web site is now listed by my security program (Webroot Spysweeper virus/firewall combined) as 'suspicious'  It hasn't always been that way, and I'm not sure why it's like that now, unless their logarithm somehow takes complaints other than buggy stuff into consideration.  I just thought that was interesting.

There was a really funny tweet from the faux cooksource tweet ID, it was "I could really go for some apple pie right now, anyone know any good recipes?"  It isn't exactly high art, but it sure tickled me.

Very interesting, especially to those of us who are interested in medieval culture/SCA stuff.

Nice to see a lot of people standing behind an author's right to publish to the internet.

What's happened with this since then?
Then out spake brave Horatius,
The Captain of the Gate:
"To every man upon this earth
Death cometh soon or late.
And how can man die better
Than facing fearful odds,
For the ashes of his fathers,
And the temples of his gods...
-The Lay of Horatius

Yup, looks like it.  Another small magazine 'lifted' a photograph from a blogger/author/photographer I know personally, and after he blew her off, hung up on her... he reconsidered.  I do suspect there was some good timing mojo going on, because it was right about the same time.

Fan's of Suzanne's blog did write letters and share the whole thing on their facebook and such, but I think one of the big pushes was that the whole cooksource saga was ongoing at about the same time.

Here's a link in case anyone is interested, http://chickensintheroad.com/living/open-letter-to-dave-belanger/  FYI it all got settled and she got a handwritten apology too, including a promise to review standards and practices in all his magazines.
