pre-gen Characters
« on: July 16, 2010, 04:44:48 PM »
Anyone been compiling a list of the PC level designed characters here (and anywhere else)?  I'm going to have to start over with my con pre-gens (all 12 of them) and I'd love a few templates to start.  Thanks so much!

I've got a group of 8 Chest Deep Pre-gens I posted a while ago. They can be found here:

http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,17704.0.html

Hope that helps.  :)

Its a start. Thanks.

Anyone know how to make a sticky so that if I dig through and find a bunch I could link them all up in one place.

I still have a bunch of Feet in the Water-level characters that I created for a Con.  If I can figure out a way to post the files of them I will.

I have nine characters in varying degrees of usability, but I think posting nine characters at once in a single thread might be pushing it.

I haven't used the attachments option of posts around here, but most places you can put a zip file right in a post. If that doesn't work might want to check out MediaFire or some other upload web-site. If all else fails, feel free to send me a private message and I'm sure we can figure something out. :)

Not at all. Look at Deadmanwalking's thread of mundane animals, there are 62 animal sheets posted and still counting. That's just one example, but there are several others. After all, no one is going to get mad for you posting to many sheets, the more the merrier. 8)

Okay, here goes. My first two characters were designed along the actual char gen rules, albeit one incompletely so. The remaining seven ignored the phases/steps and just have Aspects. The final of those seven is missing two aspects--couldn't think of any more.

Albert “Billy” Samson
High Concept Aspect: Descendent of Twice-Magical Bloodline
Trouble Aspect: Family Values

Background Phase
Aspect: Old Money, Older Power
Young aristocrat Deborah Samson misused her family lore and was abducted to the Nevernever, but she was taken in by a benevolent Gruff. She returned to the mortal world one hundred years later with a changeling child in her arms.

Rising Conflict Phase
Aspect: Faerie Godbrothers
The child, young Albert, was raised by the Samsons, but visited by Gruffs, who saw him as a new brother. He was tutored in mortal magic, and grew to recognize that his “brothers,” though friendly, were far from human.

First Story Phase
Aspect: Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin!
Story: Hot Pursuit
When Winter Court raiders make off with a gaggle of foolish freshmen, can a classmate’s stubborn pursuit retrieve them before it’s too late?

First Guest Star Phase
Aspect: Scapegoat Gruff
Story: A Plundered Trust (Timothy Edwards’ Story)
When a trusted friend of Albert reveals himself as no friend at all, the family’s library is pillaged of lore. With its most prized secrets torn away, the family retaliates by casting Albert out of his home and stripping him of the resources to which he was accustomed.

Second Guest Star Phase
Aspect: A Bit of the Gruff and Tumble
Story: On the Fence (Delilah Howard’s story)
A night out with a pretty practitioner turns into a brawl with some unsavory goons when they come seeking stolen magical goods. Delilah and Albert make a great team, but is the intrepid sorcerer willing to put up with her after she reveals her stash of ill-gotten components drew the thugs’ ire?

Supernatural Powers

The Catch (+3) is Cold Iron and the like

Staff (Spiral etched oak staff topped with ram’s head): Air Offensive Control 2. It also serves as a Weapon: 2 bludgeon.
Shield Pendant (carved marble shield on a silver chain): Provides a Fantastic (+6) Air Block, usable 4 times a session.
Mind Shielding Ring (copper ring embossed with runes meaning “no” in a dozen dead languages): Provides Armor: 2 against mental attacks, usable 3 times a session.

Rotes
(Other rote here)

“Aaron Reese”
High Concept Aspect: Retired War God
Trouble Aspect: War Never Changes

Background Pase
Aspect: Born and Raised in Fury
Being the only legitimate son of Zeus amidst a veritable ocean of bastards causes a lot of pressure, and Ares took it out on the world, becoming a brutal thug of a god.

Rising Conflict  Phase
Aspect: In Doubt, Faith—In Weakness, Strength
After his passionate romance with Aphrodite mellowed him out a bit, Ares moved on to patronage of the Latin tribes, who worshipped him as Mars. The tribes moved on to become an empire, but as they grew more and more devoted to the ways of their patron, he realized he was not worthy of emulation. Its collapse centuries later relieved him, and he decided it was at last time to rest.

First Story
Aspect: The Goddess I Left Behind Me
Story: Helping Hand or Bleeding Heart?
Waking up from an extended nap to find himself in the late 20th century, Ares quickly learned that the world was not what he knew any more. His warriors nature called to him, but he refused to answer it, living as a homeless, destitute man rather than participate in plentiful wars in his Mediterranean homeland. He eventually fled to the so-called Land of Opportunity rather than see the battles any more.
Nevertheless, he found conflict when a charity benefit hosted by a rich fashionista brought him face to face with his old lover, Aphrodite, who had a few words to say about the path he had chosen. Their reunion (and argument) was cut short by an attack by a sorcerer infected by the Red Court, who sought the hearts of the homeless to feed an Aztec ritual he hoped could cure him.

First Guest Star
Aspect: Older Than History,  and Twice as Full of Bullshit
Story: Paying Respects (Geryon’s Story)
Ares was just beginning to integrate himself into modern society when was treated to a surprise visit from some old servants, the Makhai. They had joined the forces of Downbelow when the Olympians retreated from the mortal realm, and were sent to recruit the war god, something he did not initially realize. When Ares refused their offer, they attacked and nearly overwhelmed him. If not for the appearance of a more sincere visitor, the ancient, Summer-sworn Ogre Geryon, the immortal life of Ares might have ended that day.

Supernatural Powers:
Supernatural Strength -4, Inhuman Toughness (Catch: True Believers) -1, “Wizard’s” Constitution -0, Sponsored Magic: (Olympian Glories) -4*

*Focus Items:
--Bronze wristband with seal of Mars (modern “male” symbol): +2 Defensive Control
--Iron ring shaped like a Roman Gladius bent into a loop: +1 Offensive Control
--Bronze ring embossed with a Centurion’s shield: +1 Defensive Power
*Rotes:
--Infortuna Minoris: Applies a “Bad Luck” aspect to the target. No focus items involved, so 2 shifts, generally resisted with Conviction.
--Impregnable Godflesh: Uses Defensive Focus items to grant +1 Armor for 3 exchanges (4 shifts -2 for 2 extra exchanges, remaining 2 halved for Armor: 1)

Skills
Superb (+5): Weapons
Great (+4): Fists, Intimidation
Good (+3): Athletics, Conviction, Endurance
Fair (+2): Alertness, Lore, Discipline, Presence
Average (+1): Deceit, Empathy, Might, Stealth, Survival

I thought I'd post a few of mine, hope they help or inspire :)

This one is for a more social game, especially for those that prefer to play as mortal.

Quote
Name - Charles 'Charlie' Ambrose
Template - Pure mortal

High Concept - Steampunk Genius in Hiding
Invoke: Creating items, declarations to say hexes won't work, great at staying out of trouble
Compel: Prefers to avoid the action, reliant on technology.

Trouble - But, but they really ARE out to get me!
Invoke: Constantly alert for spies and security cameras. Aware of dangerous situations
Compel: Hunted by the Government and perhaps by some supernatural types too.

Background - Junkyard Junior to Government Gadgeteer
Charlie was brought up in a scrapyard by his Dad, a mechanic. He was encouraged to create from an early age but his talents ran towards ingenious contraptions to solve everyday problems around him. His creative problem solving, combined with his intelligence, caught the eye of numerous government organisations and after graduating with honours from a prestigious university, he was offered the chance to be a 'Q' how could he resist? (After all, who doesn't love the Bond films?).
Invoke: Understands (and can create) advanced and unusual gadgets. Understands how the government works. Strong academic background. Capable of creating items out of scrap.
   Compel: Has a Dad (hostage)

Rising Conflict - Wide-eyed to the occult.
After many years of government problem solving, creating ingenious gadgets and weaponry to deal with any situation, he was asked to join a secret branch of the government that handles occult problems. His scepticism soon disappeared as he watched the agents investigate and exterminate nests of vampires and werewolf packs, go on exploratory missions through the never-never and obtain (sometimes violently) potent items of power. Charlie loved creating the obscure devices they needed and spent hours going through their files on the various supernatural species and powers that had been encountered. However, he eventually discovered that his government weren't always the good guys, fighting monsters and turning back the darkness; in fact they spent most of their time using their knowledge of the supernatural in black-op warfare against other countries. More than that, sometimes the monsters weren't monsters at all but just people trying to get along (even if they are people that sometimes turn in to wolves). So Charlie left, knowing as he did that they'd hunt him down and kill him for leaving, and he took copies of all of their files including names, lists of their covert ops and their database of occult knowledge.
Invoke: Has great knowledge of many of the supernatural species and. Knows how to create magic circles.
Compel: Is easily intimidated by the more imposing monster types. May be disliked for his earlier role in 'monster hunting'.

1st Story - Ghost in the Machine
Charlie used his knowledge of their methods, along with his genius at technology and problem solving, to go on the run. Deleting his details as if he had never existed, using fake ID's created on the system over a period of a month or so, with special bank accounts setup to send untraceable amounts of money from a series of slush funds, ensuring that he has enough resources to stay ahead of the agency. There have been a few close calls in the years that followed, but he has always managed to stay at least one step ahead despite the scale of the search, having elevated paranoia to an art-form. That's not to say that he hasn't had help though...
Invoke: Experienced at avoiding attention, understands how security systems work, extremely self-sufficient, hard to track
Compel: Limited to what he can do. Always in danger. Hard to contact. Can't rely on anyone else.

Guest Star 1 - Not quite Batman
When Charlie discovered that his father had been arrested on what had to be false charges, he knew a trap had been set for him. He wanted to save his father but how could he? He wasn't some kind of super hero and he'd probably get them both killed! There must be something he could do though...
Invoke: Brains over brawn, Can always make a useful gadget, Good at discovering both problems and solutions.
Compel: Isn't a strong fighter, Can be intimidated by tough odds, Sometimes clever ideas just aren't enough.

Guest Star 2 - ??? - Left blank to tie in to another character.

This one is good for both social and physical conflicts, definitely designed for a darker game though due to her compels.
Quote
Submerged - 10 Refresh, 35 Skill points

Name: Cassandra 'Cassie' Weaver
High-Concept: Arachanthrope cat-burglar
Trouble: The Spider inside her
Invoke - Can be a useful bonus when doing anything spider like i.e. Hunting people. Killing people. Eating people. Knitting and crochet.
Compel - Can be bad when she's doing anything that doesn't involve hunting, killing and eating people. Or weaving. Especially when she is given an appropriate opportunity to do so.

Background: A Tangled Web
Brought up in an atmosphere of manipulation and distrust, she quickly learnt that to get what you want, you've got to take it. It wasn't long before she was lying, cheating and stealing; taking advantage of everyone she met and every opportunity she saw, coming up with elaborate schemes to leave her blame-free and in a position of power. With her talents, and the thrill she took from stealing, she eventually turned her hand to serious theft and she proved to be as adept at avoiding security systems as she was at avoid the various lies and manipulations attempts her parents used against her. Her skills also helped her navigate the complicated and vicious world of criminals
Invoke - She's an expert at manipulation and deception. She can create and enact complicated plans with ease. She's used to dealing with criminals.
Compel - She's an almost pathological liar and struggles to tell the truth about anything. She cannot trust others as she thinks everyone is as bad as she is.

Rising Conflict: To a spider's eyes, all are flies.
Hearing that there were some particularly rare and valuable curious at the house of a local politician, she decides to break in and see what she can find. After discovering the secret room that the blueprints had promised, she soon discovered his secret; he was a Were-Rat! Excited at the idea of gaining the same power, convinced that she could become an even greater thief with this power, she quickly repeated the ritual as detailed in his journal; knowing that he wouldn't be back from his event for another hour.
Two hours late, she's eaten him. It turns out that turning in to a tiny Were-Rat in front of a 6' long Were-Spider isn't a good idea. That ritual put her in touch with her totem animal, the creature that most matched her inner-nature, and she was rather pleased with the results. Not bad for a nights work, not only had she unlocked the kind of power she'd always wanted, she'd also managed to grab a spot of dinner too!
Invoke - Hunger for power, hunger for control, hunger for the flesh of weaker creatures; spiders are skilled at exploiting every weakness to satisfy their hunger.
Compel - To a spider, everything that moves is edible! If she sees weakness in someone then she doesn't help them, she takes advantage.

When grappling, Might is considered to be Superb (inhuman strength)
When rolling for initiative, Alertness is considered to be Epic (inhuman speed)
When dodging, Athletics is considered to be Superb (and it's Fantastic when sprinting) (inhuman speed)

And this is another dark one, his powers are quite tricksy to use properly (manoeuvres with breath weapon, gaseous form etc) but should be pretty strong in a game.
Quote
Chest-deep, 8 Refresh, 30 skill points.

Name: Dexter Dyson.
High-concept: Vigilante Air Elemental
Trouble: Can't kill the memories.

Others:
Background: Traumatised by a Clown!
When he was 8, he was kidnapped by a serial-killing clown. His ordeal lasted 27 hours, most of which he spent locked in small box terrified out of his mind. When the clown finally decided to kill him he escaped, and after a small after-hours showdown in a hall of mirrors, his terror finally unlocked his potential as he turned into a cloud of gas and drifted away.
Compel - Clowns terrify him. Hates clowns.

Rising Conflict: Judge, Djinn and Executioner
Now safely at home but still trying to get over his ordeal (which will take a few years of therapy and only cause him to internalise his issues), he learns that the clown had been caught, but not before he'd tortured and killed another two boys around his age. Wracked with guilt at the thought that if he'd only done something more to stop his attacker then perhaps they'd still be alive, he gradually starts to obsess.
At the age of 16, he breaks in to the cell of the killer clown, now declared criminally insane and left to rot in an asylum, and executes him for his crimes. Unfortunately that wasn't enough anymore, there were too many serial killers talked about on TV, too many people hurting others and getting away with it. Someone had to stop them.

Compel - Killing is his solution to problems. Is basically a serial killer himself and so may run into problems with the law.

First Story: Never Stops Hunting
He's now 22 and has killed over a dozen people already, all of them killers themselves... he's pretty sure they are anyway. He travels the country on the money he has stolen from them, constantly searching for signs that will take him to the next killer.
Compel - Can't turn down a hunt. Easily distracted by signs of a killer.

Guest Star 1: Be like the wind.
He's developed his powers so that he can change into gaseous form and back whenever he wants, as well as controlling the wind itself. More than that, he tries to be silent but powerful, going where ever he likes swiftly, without being seen and leaving no trace of his presence.
Compel - Not used to working with people.

Guest Star 2: ??? - left so that it can be tailored to the party

Last one for the moment, this is a very effective character considering it's only feet in the water and I think it could be quite fun to play too.

Feet in the water, 6 refresh and 20 skill points.

Name: Zack Nagleson
High Concept: Rebel angel
Trouble: Destined to fight the dark
- He is a gifted angelic warrior, his powers designed to fight evil wherever it may be. Or at least, that's what he will be once he's grown up a bit.

Background: All-American Pretty Boy
- Blond, blue eyed and athletic; he could be quite popular if he wasn't such an arrogant little so-and-so about it.
Rising Conflict: Not so angelic
-Young and wild, loves to party and can't resist a bit of mischief. He's also quite angry about
First Story: Cursed secret
- Whenever he shows his powers to a mortal on purpose, they always seem to end up dead. He's lost two casual girlfriends and a good friend this way (because having wings is too cool not to show off sometimes). He's torn between showing off and keeping his angelic side a secret.

-----------------Powers-----------------

[-2] Inhuman Speed
[-2] Inhuman Recovery

[+1] Human Form - affecting:
[-1]Wings
[-2] upgrade to Supernatural speed
[-2] Inhuman Toughness.
[+3] Catch - holy items.

[-5] Refresh total.

-----------------Skills-----------------

Great: Athletics, Guns
Good: Endurance, Alertness
Fair: Stealth, Deceit
Average: Presence, Resources

Those are great!  Does anyone have links to the earlier threads with characters?  I think a single thread reference to find them would be helpful to a lot of people.

Refresh Rate 4 (Pure mortal)

This guy is a pure mortal for a submerged game. he is a huge support character but can literally make a group twice as dangerous. He was made for a campaign I got into but it got canceled for a number of reasons. Anyone is free to jack him if they want (or some ideas from him) I rather liked the idea myself but unfotunately i doubt i will ever get to play him in a campaign.
