I Double Dog Dare You
« on: July 14, 2010, 05:51:26 AM »
Codex Alera started with a kind of ridiculous dare (Lost Roman Legion plus POKEMON, betcha can't pull that off!). In the end, the story turned out pretty well. Not to mention published. So, is anyone up to trying a semi-ridiculous Dare thread of our own?

We can have dares that are specific or general, meant for anyone or targeted at individual posters. Anything to start the creative process and maybe add some fun into the mix is game (ex, Titanic and the Last Airbender! with leprechauns!). The only rule is you have to figure out a way to make it work.

Anyone up for it?

Are we looking at short stories or full-on books for these dares/challenges?

Titanic+Airbender = The fire nation creates a gigantic ship to destroy all the water benders on the north and south pole, but is thwarted by a giant water bended iceberg that pops up out of nowhere.

The Tempest crossed with The X-Files:  a spaceship crashes near a New Mexico desert commune, and everybody does a lot of mushrooms.

Native American Windego legend combined with Men in Black/ HellBoy

Evil demonic like creatures are invading earth, and a government agency is created to combat them with their own supernatural and technological abilities, one is a guy who gets power from eating the flesh and bones of demons that he kills.

kittensgame, Sandcastle Builder, Homestuck, Welcome to Night Vale, Civ III, lots of print genre SF, and old-school SATT gaming if I had the time.  Also Pandemic Legacy is the best game ever.

Don't know about the stories themselves, but I'll help with the titles.

Titanic/Airbender: Titbender. :D
The Tempest/X-Files: The Temp Files. Trials and tribulations of someone who downloads way too much.

Wendigo/Men in Black/Hellboy: Devil Legends in Black. A team of grim, taciturn devils who protect their innocent, natural realm from incursions by those nasty humans. ;D

I have another one:

Dunesbury.  With Zonker-Muad'Dib, and the real reason why they call them "stillsuits".
