Is there a WoJ?
« on: April 22, 2025, 06:41:04 PM »
I just started a re-read of the Codex Alera, and a thought occurred. Is there a WoJ on how the Vord Queen wound up in hibernation in the first place?

The WOJ for the Codex Alera series have never been collected in one spot. They are scattered across the multitude of Cons Jim has done over the years. AS far as I have seen, Jim has never clearly stated where the Vord come from or why the queen is in hibernation. I do recall one thought, but I cannot remember if it is a WOJ or a WAG (I think it might have been implied in a WOJ). The thought was that the original Vord Queen Nest was a spaceship that crashed which created the crater the Wax Forest is in upon impact. It is possible that the Vord Queen was in hibernation because of space travel and never woke due to mechanical failure with the crash. Another theory is that she needs a blood sample from the native population in order to get going, but that has never been confirmed. It that is true than presumably she crashed in a remote enough location that no locals every provided the necessary blood sample until Kitai did.
