Yeah, Puck as an entity is already a different character in the Dresden Files (although I think Gargoyles did him better).
As far as the type of role that Puck played, Mac is mysterious to Dresden, but he seems to be more of a known quantity outside of Dresden's inner circle. Maeve, for instance, acts as if she knows who Mac is. It's hard to hide in plain sight when people know who you are.
