Hey everybody!
Long time no post.
It is hot. Hot. Hot.
I feel like my blood is boiling. The promised bad weather did not reach my home. There was one day it cooled down a bit. There was some clouds and wind and a few rain drops. But not enough.
Ok, I shouldn't complain. There were floodings in other parts of the country. I was glad the really bad weather didn't reach us. The river was quite full of water. It almost got over the shore. But there's the reinforced dam also. So the village is mostly safe. Except from ground water coming up.

Soon it will be Tuesday again. I'm excited what will be on JB's website then.

Yesterday a few kids were here to celebrate my little one's birthday (the real birthday was in April, but we promised her, there will be a party as soon as we are allowed to. As she has not forgotten, I had to do the party now. But I'm glad it's over.). Today I refilled the rubber pool and she is in there with her playmobil mermaids. I will join her soon.
We are doing a lazy Sunday.

And I'm debating with myself what I should read now. I have a few books to try. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, What's its title by Patrick Rothfuss, and a funny one starring a Bavarian police man. All of them good ones. Maybe I'll start with the police story, because it is extremely different in it's stile from the DF.

I am so glad your child got to enjoy her bithday. And the pool! Also, I love playmobil with all my heart. I even have 2 of them in the living room now. One is a princess, in a pretty dress, with a lovely purple unicorn. The other one, is an Argentinian football player. But I have a couple more on the sleeping room and even more stored.

Here is unseasonably hot too (we have 18°C) but is cloudy.

About what to read: Many people here love P. Rothfuss work. I had not read him. I did read Neverwhere and liked it a lot. As it takes place in London, when I was there a couple of years ago I couln't stop enjoying the underground names that are menioned in the book. But I agree, perhaps it is good to read something very different while waiting for more Dreden. Oh, Priscellie has confirmed that we will have sample chapters for BG (not information of how many or when)

I love playmobil too. I have a vampire couple on my bedroom cupboard. The female has bat wings. Pretty cool.
It is amazing what funny and detailed things there are today. I love to look for that in the stores. You can get that almost everywhere now. Mostly it is very expensive, but there are small figures in a surprise bag to put together yourself, that are sold for 2€. I buy them as little presents for kids.

And I've heard about Rothfuss, too. I wonder, why I have never read some of his books. They are even in the library.
It's the first of the king killer books. A colleague lent me the book.
That was funny. It was during the nightshift week, when Peace Talks came out. I told him that I was so excited about the book. So he asked what it was. Turned out he likes similar books. So I recommended J. Butcher and he recommended P. Rothfuss.
And he saw my reaction after I went to the fire stairs after midnight to get access to the internet to see, if the book was already there. And it was!!!
I may have expressed my joy in a loud way.  ;)

Maybe I'll just force myself to finish the police book. I have started before Peace Talks, but put it away. It is no high literature. Mostly I don't really like the protagonist's attitude. He is a cynical asshole, but sometimes it is really funny. But I'm not sure I can endure several books or even the one I read now. I fear this is the second time I really prefer the movies to the books. The first one being "The Name Of The Rose" by Umberto Eco. I really tried to read that, I managed about 80 pages I think, but it was sooooo boring for me, sorry, Umberto.  ;)

I think I did not read the P. Rothfuss books because I've felt they were a rip-off of Dresden. I don't say that is right, in fact, I know many people here who love it. But that is how I roll  :)

And I loved The name of the Rose! I was in my secondary school and I've got hepatitis, so I stayed at home and read it. And it was great. I also read "Foucault's pendulum" but I was disappointed because, after loving the novel all the time I was reading it, felt that the ending was lacking.
The Name of the Rose, the movie, was very good, I love Sean Connery so much. Also, we Argentinians read the blind librarian as a reference to our Jorge Luis Borges, our greatest writer, who was blind and  (for a time) the director of the National Library.

Hello!!!
I'm back.  ;) We were busy with the harvest. The plums are done. We donated about half of them to plumless people ;D. Now it's apple time.

I still don't read any particular book. But have started three different ones, but can't get the right feeling to continue any of them.

But we managed to watch the fifth season of Lucifer. At least the first 8 episodes. It still is not clear when the rest will be available. It was fun to watch. Took us one evening and one night.

Congrats about the plums, and I hope the apples are great.

I watched two episodes of this season of Lucifer, so far I am really liking it. Last week we also began watching Lovecraft country (It's a new HBO show). I am not a Lovecraft fan at all but this looks interesting because it happens in the Jim Crow years. So I can tell that the idea is that racist humans are worse than Lovecraftian monsters.

Lovecraft country sounds interesting. I've watched the trailer now. But it's not on Prime Video. So we'll have to wait a bit.
But soon there will be the next season of "The Boys". We are waiting for that.

And I have found a book I can manage to read, I think. Ink&Sigil by Kevin Hearne. I'm at chapter 2 already. Started yesterday. But it may take a while, because I have to concentrate a lot. Direct speech is in (fake) Scottish dialect most of the time. Thank God I have watched Outlander in preparation, LOL.

OMG, that would be almost impossible to me. I even suffered with Hagrid.

Oh. It's actually pretty good. It's about crime solving. And I like the main character. I'm glad I finally found something I can keep on reading. That doesn't mean, I don't like all the other books I have started in the past weeks, but they were not what I needed. I will read them at the right time. Or not.
Sometimes the taste changes or develops. Sometimes I suddenly like a story I didn't like ten or twenty years ago.  Or I put emphasis on different aspects of a story than I did before.

So maybe I might give The Name Of The Rose another try someday. I was about 20 when I tried to read it. And maybe I'll give Hamlet another try, too.

But for now I am content with this new book, which I am able to continue in spite of the first chapter of Battle Ground only days away.  ;D ;D ;D
It frustrates me when I don't read anything. And it always has to be fiction. And I have to like the main character or at least one of the characters, if there are several.

Hello Weird!
So... Met my sister at the airport, got PT, escorted her home (the sister). She has two lovely daughters that made for a fun ride. Yes, I just said that... A ride with two children and I had fun, weird, eh?
Finished PT. Was quite good, the only part I didn't like was
(click to show/hide)
I loved the first part with Ebenzar :D
هل أخذت الغاب مثلي منزلاً دون القصور
فتتبعت السواقي وتسلقت الصخور
هل تحممت بعطره وتنشفت بنور

I did not like the first chapters too much, they seemed...like postcards, separated from each other. But as the book become more integrated, it was much better.
I am so glad you had fun with your nieces  :).

@Regen, it is true that tastes change with time. The Name of the Rose was perfect for me at the time, perhaps if I had never heard of it and I would find it now I wouldn't like it. Who knows? And about your books, I was not criticizing its quality, only saying that I am awful reading Scottish accent.
And I totally agree with you, it is very important for me to like the main character (or at least one of them)

@Dina
Oh, I didn't take it as critique. I was surprised I enjoy it so much. I've tried the other two series by him. But I stopped reading both, because one was too dark and the other too funny. Weird. But not bad, just not what I needed at that time.
I also stopped reading the police story, because the main character is an asshole. LOL. I think I will rather watch the movies, because you don't have to listen into his head. Then it is funny.

@ Fcrate:
Peace Talks:
For me especially the parts of Harry
(click to show/hide)
But I didn't like
(click to show/hide)
But otherwise the book was great.
Tomorrow there will be the first chapter of Battle Ground online, but I will try not to look, because I haven't finished Ink&Sigil yet. I hope I can do it. Wish me strength of will. ;)

First of all, be strong! You can do it! (I don't know what I will do myself) Seriously, I know you can.

I agree with what you said about PT. And about the police story, now I am curious. What movies?

And about the police story, now I am curious. What movies?

They made movies from the first 2 or 3 books.
Reading them is not easy. They are written in dialect and the grammar is not correct, meaning the whole book is a first person narration and it feels like the guy is sitting beside you telling his life story. Exactly how someone from a really small village somewhere in the country would talk. That was funny at first, but a whole book written like this was getting on my nerves. Especially because I know people like that and I tend to slip away before they can talk too much.
My husband and I watched one of the movies a few months ago. That was the reason why I tried the book. Before I didn't want to read it, because the people recommending it had a completely different taste in books than me. Especially my mother. LOL. I have learned that if my mother really likes a book, it is best for me to not read it. There are exceptions, but they are rare, and even then these are books that are OK to get through but I don't really like them. So we were surprised the movie was so funny.

That's the one I tried to read.

And this is the first one. There is more info:
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt2969050/plotsummary?ref_=m_tt_ov_pl

Edit: I have looked. There are no English subtitles. You can have German ones. That makes sense, because someone from the north or east of Germany might have difficulties in understanding.

Ah, thanks for the info. Of course, I won't be able to watch it, as I don't speak German.

Which reminds me, a trivia about me. I actually learnt a few German words in kindergarten, as I went to a "German" school. Meaning, it was founded by German people and even when the classes were "normal" in Spanish, all the normal subjects, they taught you German too. In kinder, only a few words, it was supposed to be very good in primary and secondary, but I only went there for kinder.

Still not sure if reading the chapters, because they are 2 of them
