How Merlin trapped gods?

Started rereading the series and just started Fool Moon.  Right in the series Harry mentions 3 different summoning circles.  The most powerful Circle he describes is to hold very powerful Being's like Archangel's, and Demigods.  So my guess is Merlin somehow acquired their Names, and summoned them into such a Circle on DemonReach and then locked them up.

Anyways I don't remember if Harry has used such a Circle.  If not I'm wondering when we will see it used.

I think Nicodemus came close on Demonreach, just on the crueller side.

Harry used a suped-up circle to trap the Erlking.  Not a circle on that level, he didn't have time, but more serious than his regular circles IIRC.
