That's a great explanation, but where does it come from? I'm 3/4 through the book and just plain got tired of not knowing what spire, habble, and batman means. I've read and loved every Jim Butcher book so far, I find it odd and frustrating that he would leave the reader clueless like this.
A batman is a military aide, not something specific to the Cinder Spires world.
We shall not fail or falter, we shall not weaken or tire...Give us the tools, and we will finish the job.--Winston Churchill

Yeah, they actually made a joke about the original meaning of batman, the one being used in TAW, in Cold Days, when Cat Sith was assigned as Harry's batman.
"I will not treat your dusty path and flat,
Denoting this and that by this and that,
Your world immutable wherein no part
the little maker has with maker's art."

BTW - "Arch" in this case would mean "ruler", from the Greek "arkhi". Think "monarch" and "anarchy".

I made it over halfway through before I got fed up with it and just kept thinking "Get on with the goddamn book already."
