Known Issue: Avatar Uploads Don't Work

We're aware that avatar uploads aren't working.  A support question has been raised with the software maker, but no answers have been found yet (in fact, after a lot of back-and-forth, they pretty much came out stumped).

For the time being, you'll have to select one of the already-available avatars on the system.  If there's a Jim-related avatar that seems to be missing, let me know, and I'll see if I can do something about that!

How about adding in stuff from other fandoms that are well received amongst the Butcher fans?  I know there alot of Browncoats among us, and just general fans of Joss Whedon.   

We could have a poll or something.

I want to be careful about what sort of images we end up choosing to display, but that's a thought.

I'm sure you have... but did try setting CHMOD to 777 in the directory where the AVs are to be uploaded?  I work with vBulletin Board software which is pretty similiar to this, I can check and see what they say to do...

All that's done.  It doesn't seem to be a directory permissions based issue.  It's more a problem with the software not seeming to recognize that a file upload's happened -- even though PHP's configuration is set to explicitly allow such things.

Hello, I have an smf forum (my 3rd actually) are you sure you have changed the right settings in the Admin panel for members or perhaps for individual groups?  If you are the admin then test if you can upload since the admin should be able to do everything, if it not a problem for admins, then I would say it could be as I suggested above.

Admin's couldn't do it, when I had the permissions turned on to allow it.  At this point, I'm not too stressed about it not working.  Saves me some disk space. :)

If you offer the option to point to an external avatar eg on photobucket or imageshack then it wont be using your bandwidth:)

I doubt Fred wants users to be able to point to external files on a site that is ostensibly an extension of Jim's public image.  Seems a good idea to me (much as I'd love to have my own avatar) to keep a fairly tight wrap on that sort of thing.

It would save on bandwidth. Besides, avatars content can be enforced by the simple means of establishing rules and looking at the avatars that people use. Or forcing people to upload custom avatars, which are then subject to admin approval.

Why do Avatars matter, they are little pictures - I post on this thing because I like to chat with other Fans not so I can see my favorite picture

Why stress the Admin they are already doing such a good job

I guess the admin are also waaaay more patient than I am 

If the Avatars don't upload make do with what they have given us already

Strange thing is, I'm seeing people with avatars which don't appear on the list which is offered to me.

So am I looking at the wrong list, or have I not levelled-up far enough, or what?
