Is this one of those situations where if you hang together long enough you begin to look alike? Like couples who have been married for 50 years.  ;D

I am 99.99% sure that Fred's is Fred (I've perused his LJ icons).  I don't see why Ashton wouldn't be real too.

Ashton I don't know so can't say, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't be him.

Fred's is truly Fred.  I saw his wedding pictures, blue hair and all, so I know what he looks like.  Ashton, I have never seen, but since Fred, Jim and Shannon's are all theirs, I would imagine that is indeed Ashton.  :)
