bu what about margaret katherine amanda carpenter?

That either.  ;D
If she doesn't consider herself the same person who was apprenticed to Harry Dresden and who was the daughter of a Knight of the Cross, etc. then her Name would change.

And I think that losing everything she knows would be enough to force her to change, and possibly enough to change her Name.

About the potential Molly = Mab thing, how would her Name play into it? I highly doubt that the Name "Molly Carpenter" would survive an ascension ritual (or the run-up to the ascension ritual-- if being tossed backwards several millennia in time wouldn't cause a bit of an identity crisis, I don't know what would...)

It's no crazier than the theory someone floated about Susan getting preg...
Oh.
Wait.
 ;D

Off-the-wall does not discredit a theory.  And it's an absolute delight to think through and/or reread the theories while keeping the possibility in mind.
I especially like the idea floated about the Summer and Winter Queens being two sides of the same being, but I find it difficult to reconcile with the knowledge that the Summer Queen has been replaced at least once, while Mab has been the only Winter Queen.

Ah! He was in the latest attempted adaption of Riverworld.
He makes a really, really good villain; not sure how well he matches the book description of Nicodemus, but he could pull it off, I bet.
I also kinda like him for Morgan-- I think he'd do well (in the early books) as a fanatic/burnt out cop.

(and how does the process compare to other half-to-full transitions, such as changelings Choosing to become Fae?)

For your last, I think the book itself has your answer:

We don't know if he was correct to think that, of course. But at this point, it's likely that we'll never find out.

Could also have just been an offshoot of, "Hey there, mister, how'd you get in that dumpster?" as he's removing the kitten from the trash.

Well, no, he shouldn't-- that's why I wanted confirmation  :D

Let's just say that, given the days leading up to that line, I wouldn't think less of him for having a lapse in vocabulary if, indeed, that's all it was.  ;)

Oh, I'm not doubting that the equinoxes are important to at least *some* denizens of Faerie.  I was just pointing out that Harry's thought process in Changes doesn't match up with our understanding of how that portion of Faerie politics works from SK.

I guess my faith in Jim, Jim's editor and/or the betas is such that I didn't think that using the word "equinox" in place of "solstice" would be unintentional. (I'm paranoid, you say? Why thank you!)  Hence my rambling question about whether it was intended as a clue to an as-yet-untold segment of Faerie politics, or whether it's merely a mistake on Harry's part. (And if my faith in the author and his editing staff is misplaced? Then the second explanation-- "Cut Harry some slack-- he's been through enough to excuse that kind of slip"-- prevails.)

I just want to know if this line is something that should go on my hypothetical corkboard of conspiracy theories.  I also figure that 1) I'm more likely to get an answer if I give Jim an out and 2) if it is significant all Jim has to do in order to cause pain and suffering and rampant speculation (which, I'm told, is pleasing to him) is say, without elaborating, that the word choice was intentional.

I...don't think I want to disprove your theory.

Too awesome.   So farfetched and twisted, but...I could see it going like that.   Which is a truly scary thought.

I need chocolate. Lots of chocolate.

Not for the Changes signing tour, he isn't,  but I hold out hope that sometime in the next twelve books he'll favor Minneapolis again. Maybe.
Of course, not buying the hardcover lets me spend money on baseball tickets (stupid schedule...) so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Sadly, Harry reveals that he was lying his ass off a few pages later when he goes downstairs and it's the big reveal of Little Chicago.  He's been using most of his money on getting all the pewter casts made of all the buildings in the city.  He even makes some smart-ass comment about them actually not paying too badly for being out-of-touch wizards and all.

Just because rate-of-pay was set in 1959 does not mean it isn't a livable wage now...especially when combined with a (much reduced) income from vanilla mortals.  It just means that in '59, wardens were better paid!
