Pretty sure that we don't have to worry about until, like, maybe the 20th DF novel.
" In Norse mythology, the Valkyries were beautiful young women who served both as Odin's messengers and as escorts to the souls of warriors killed in battle. In fact, Valkyries means "choosers of the slain." During battle, they would ride upon winged horses and, surveying the field, select brave warriors to die. Then they would transport these souls to Valhalla, Odin's hall. Once in the afterlife, the brave souls were enlisted to fight in the battle of Ragnarok, an apocalyptic conflict signaling the end of the world."
I think that she will get killed, but not leave the stories. I think that she will die on the field of battle, and be raised, and empowered by Odin as one of his soldiers. Her youth, and health will be restored, plus enhanced speed, strength, and durability. She will give the Winter Knight a run for his money in pure hand to hand combat.
Come to think of it there could be other characters who have died that we might see later that were enlisted by Odin... Susan for example. Or Morgan... I mean anyone Jim decides to bring back now has a doorway since we know that Odin, and Valkyries exist.
I am moderately pessimist too, but not with Dresden. I trust Jin, even when I like the newer books less than the older ones.
I just found a little gem on the Upcoming Works page of Jim's website. http://www.jim-butcher.com/faq/upcoming-works As of December 6, 2018 Peace Talks is up to chapter 36 in draft form!
The last 3 books had 51-53 chapters. So if Peace Talks is around the same length, the draft is now 68-70% done!
As far as the amount of time its taken, yes its frustrating. Every YouTube video of events Jim has been at, he's been very clear of what the causes have been and how frustrated he himself has been at the delay. I've been through similar events in my own life, and personal circumstances do have a way of snowballing as they have for Jim. I've also lived through a house renovation and totally understand how that can disrupt something like writing a book.
I'm also not happy with how long its taken, but its been a good thing in a way for me. I've been extremely ill and was barely able to read Skin Game and Cold Days when they came out. While I'm doing worse physically, mentally I'm much better than I was. So having Peace Talks at some point in early 2019 is one of the very few things I have to look forward to right now. If I'm remembering correctly, the last time he was at an event he said something about having it out in early 2019. While its surely been a very long time in coming, it seems he's at least true to his word.
Well now I'm more confused than I was before the AMA.
We have in the books that Vlad Tepes went over to the Black Court, in the last AMA that he created the Black Court after turning himself into the first one by botching some plan to win his father Drakul's approval, and now in this one that he made a Fae bargain to be together forever with his lover and wound up frozen in Mab's prison garden / trophy case. From everything Jim has said previously about Blampires in Q&As I'm surprised at one of them still having the psychological room for things like romantically caring about anyone else, unless Vlad is somehow different via being the first one.
I'm not sure what to make of the couple in Byzantine outfits looking 'young' instead of 'rotten' if he's the BCV king, either. Maybe a glamour because Mab's aesthetic sensibilities would have been offended by keeping the true form of a BCV around the garden? Or somehow the king stays human-looking and it's his progeny who rot? Maybe his lover was a mortal woman and they went to the Fae because turning her wouldn't have been a satisfactory way to be "together forever" due to the defects in second-generation and later blampires?
In any case, I'm pretty shocked at the core concept that Mab has been keeping the Black Court King as a lawn ornament and that's not fodder for any further story plans.
Separately, the mention that Simon Pietrovich was an Earth specialist might be a blow against the Simon=Cowl theory since Cowl never seemed to do anything particularly earth-centric. A specialist geomancer probably could have squashed that lava barrier Harry used to cover the retreat in White Night quite easily instead of waiting for it to subside.
