Eh, now any significant lack of manifestation I chalk up to the dark magic cleansing foo dog.

Mouse came into Harry's life around a year after he torched Bianca's place, though. If he was stained from burning a bunch of teenage vampire groupies who were unconscious but still alive, Morgan and the rest of the hardliners would have had plenty of time to notice it on him.

Sometimes it might skip a generation, or a parent with a small talent has a kid with a big talent (see AAAA Wizardry, where a woman who's a sensitive and nothing else has a daughter with a much stronger gift).

I think Maggie Sr. inheriting her magic from her father's side was even lampshaded in the book as an example that there are exceptions the the usual matrilineal inheritance.

Lilly did not know and Maeve was infected. It could have been a suicidal mission anyway.

I don't think infection rendered Maeve a complete slave who would have willingly sacrificed herself for the Outsiders, though. She wanted to usurp her mother. It might have deluded her, but she was still in the game for what she thought were selfish reasons.

Maybe she would have been willing to get blown up in the morning and spend a few decades putting herself back together as the price of knocking Mab off her throne in the long run, but I don't think she was prepared to perma-die for the cause.

There's some timey-wimey stuff in play here, too. The explosion was retroactively effecting Halloween, but would have only actually gone off afterward.

Yeah, I doubt Maeve was planning on standing around to be nuked by the island's failsafe.

Unless she didn't even _know_ the jailbreak would cause something on the order of a mid-size meteor strike. I suppose it's possible she was that reckless, and Nemesis might let her think she'd be fine to get her to go through with it.

The few days ago would have been when she came across him when he and Michael chased Agatha Hagglethorn's ghost back to her pocket dimension of the NN and he refused to go with Lea there.

I don't as far as the demon goes, but killing Madeline would go a long way of making her more powerful in the minds of the rest of the clan.

Making a truly disturbing example of a traitor is a power move in a group that's really, really old-school, yes.

We know from death masks that she didn't, Butters did the autopsy's. Harry got off because no one, not even butters could determine how most of the actual human remains died.

I was thinking of after the coroner stage. Although I suppose Bianca personally might have been dead before Butters was done with them.

The Red Court hierarchy would have had an incentive to claim the bodies and dispose of them before anyone could double-check Butters' work and notice that hey, he's got a point after all.

Molly could justify it to the fae part of her by arguing that Molly (not the Winter Lady) owes Nelson a debt to fix the damage she did against his will.

Then Molly the individual can pay her personal debts without leaning on Winter power. The mantle is for debts to the office of Winter Lady.

Could Mab get through the ward, the threshold, and have the knowledge and skill to tinker with complicated mortal magic? While treating Lea at the same time?

Easily. Lea has expended significant effort on making sure Harry's dwelling maps to her garden when making Ways between earth and the NN. Mab can just step through, inside the wards and the threshold, and do anything compatible with behaving as a good guest (which also explains why, if she was there, she didn't destroy Bob ... although I suspect she's more interested in keeping him scared enough to lay low and stay quiet about the immortality loophole than sincerely committed to destroying him).

And mortal magic is mostly similar to fae magic. The ability to teach him to be far better at it than he is was one of the perks she dangled in one of her earlier offers to try to recruit him for the Winter Knight. For that matter, she's probably far enough ahead of Harry to seamlessly disarm his wards and go in through the front door, if she wanted to.

DF Spoilers / Re: Is Lara suborning the Paranet?
« on: August 06, 2018, 05:09:24 PM »
If I remember correctly, the paranet was organised via the internet. You don’t have to personally compromise anyone to know all, but rather hire IT expert or three to track and analyse everything. And, if they want to be riskier, they can use malware so they know everything and, at a critical moment, could take over the network.

Or, you know, just seduce a member or two and use their logins.

As for the deaths at Biancas, I imagine that it's chalked up to them not knowing who, if anyone, actually was killed by the fire vs already dead.  Though given the grudge some folks held against him, you'd think they'd try a bit harder to look into it.

Bianca probably had the bodies disposed of before the council were aware of what had happened there. Later books show the Wardens aren't actually as all-knowing and all-powerful as early Harry's fears make them out to be.

Might be interesting to see Molly confront her handiwork with Boyfriend Nelson, and try to use her Winter Lady mojo to fix what she screwed up.

I'm pretty sure trying to fix the damage to Nelson would be outside of what she can use any power from Winter for. Even summer and wyld need a deal before they can do much for a human, and winter is especially not into altruism. Remember how disturbed Harry was in GP at Lea healing his concussion because of what it meant about how thoroughly she had him over a barrel in terms of obligations?

I suppose she could take a shot at fixing him with her own personal reserves of power and what knowledge she's gained since messing him up, but it's been probably 6-8 years in universe since PG. With whatever the council could do to treat him and time to heal, he's probably either broken through what she did and relapsed, or stabilized to the point where further interference wouldn't serve his well-being. Besides which, interfering further would still be dangerous for Molly's own self-control.

Could be.  May also have to do with just how much humanity they have, or the lack there of.  Lord Raith (and now Lara) may be becoming more demon than human.

I hope not. She makes a much more interesting antagonist as a mostly-person who chooses to be a villain because it's the expedient means to achieve her ends than she could as just a puppet to her demon. A lot of what she's doing makes the most sense interpreted through a lens that she's driven to gather enough power so nobody can ever hurt her again like her father's sexual abuse did. Where she tips from survivor into villain is channeling that into "no matter who I have to hurt or kill to get there", but that's still a rationalization that can come from a human mind.

I think if the demon was in the driver's seat most of the time, her rise within the White Court would have been mostly founded on dominating competing whamps the way her father did. Her demon is probably strong enough to take almost anybody else' in that sort of fight.

Holy frak, Dresden really IS Anakin! On a side note, I can’t wait to see what Harry says about the new SW movies in Peace Talks.

Pretty sure he panned the new one in one of the round of signings / Q&A's that had videos posted in June.

I think it would be a mistake to conclude future Harry is the only one who even could have. Mab doesn't do altruistic freebies, but she's plenty capable of getting through the wards and preventing Harry from blowing himself up if she had a utilitarian, Mab-centric reason for preserving him. Given WOJ that the resolution to PG was favourable to Mab, making sure he lived to get there was probably consistent enough with her rational self-interest to justify intervening.
