DF Spoilers / Lara Raith marriage consummation
« on: July 19, 2022, 08:35:39 AM »
I was thinking about   the original reasons for arranged marriage and the reasons for annulments and divorces. the main reason for arranged marriages was the combing  of two groups after the production of an heir.  history is full of stories about what happens when there is no heir produced. So, my question is will there be a child produced by the nuptials or will the marriage be a barren one with either an annulment because the contract was not upheld by either party when a child is not produced.

I was just thinking how funny it would be for harry to be summoned into a mirror universe on his wedding day effectively abandoning Lara Raith  at the alter.

DF Spoilers / Margret's curse on lord raith
« on: October 11, 2020, 08:06:51 PM »
Simple Question  Margret death curse is anchored to Thomas and to Harry.  does Thomas being held in demon reach weaken Margret's Curse on Lord Raith enough where his demon could break free and feed.

DF Spoilers / why little or no ivy
« on: July 18, 2020, 08:47:54 PM »
Jim butcher seems to have purposely removed the archive from the story line . only an acknowledgment that  she was at peace talks no interaction with Dresden...seems to me that the one character that could shed a lot of light to what is happening in peace talks is on the sideline story wise.  I am guessing that battleground will feature her prominently in the story line.... I cant wait to see how she is used in battle ground or if she is even used if she is not used I hope that we get an explanation in later books.  if she is in Battleground  I hope that Jim butcher does some fan service and has her meeting Maggie and Bonnie

DF Spoilers / Dresden related to kinkaid therory
« on: August 11, 2019, 06:47:30 AM »
this is not my theory but that of a poster on face book. I thought it would be interesting to explore....I credit a chad sparks with this idea.

going through Blood Rites for the second time, and this conversation got chad sparks thinking.

McCoy: "I told you, if I ever saw you again, I'd kill you."

Kincaid: "Which is one reason you haven't seen me. There's no point to this, if we start shooting the kid's gonna get hit. Neither of us has an interest in that.

McCoy: "I'm supposed to believe you give a damn about him? "

Kincaid: "Half a damn maybe, I sort of like him. But what I meant was there's no profit for either of us in killing him."

This isn't just personal/philosophical differences, I'm starting to think these men are connected by blood - and I don't mean murder. Either directly, (father & son, or maybe half-brothers?), or via Harry (Kincaid could actually be Harry's father, or connected to that lineage).

remember, this is the same book where Dresden goes on and on about "Familial Dementia", we get to meet Murphy's dysfunctional clan, and Harry discovers a brother he never knew about, and he accidentally adopts a dog. It's all about family.

I thought about Kincaid agreeing to kill Harry later on as a hole in the theory at first, but aside from Kincaid's literal mercenary attitude, there's the fact that he failed.

Kincaid. Failed.

With plenty of prep time and centuries of experience, and skills demonstrated in the "duel" with Ortega and the raid on the Black Court, he failed to end Dresden's life... or lived up to the letter of the contract while finding a way to not kill him?

I copied this from face book. I thought it should be explored.  this was someone elses idea and I like it

in the absence of information  thought it would be fun to post some fake spoilers about the up coming book. the rules for posting is that you have to build your fake spoiler  off the privies fake spoiler.

my fake spoiler is
ivy arrives in town for the peace talks early and ends up watching Maggie and bonnie while Dresden and Kinkaid travel to demon reach.

now who ever posts next has to expand  on this spoiler I gave …..the idea is to come up with a fake outline of the upcoming book.   have fun with it and fanboy away

DF Spoilers / new faith astor therory
« on: February 04, 2018, 07:46:34 PM »
I believe that faith Astor is the girl that got Rudolph in trouble and sent him to SI.

in one of the books it is mentioned that Rudolph ended up getting his career destroyed  because he was chasing after a society girl who's family was connected politically and the family did not like it. he was transferred in as a way of punishing him for the indiscretion.

if any one could expand on this please.  or just shoot holes in the idea.

DF Spoilers / bonies conception is in the book small favors
« on: September 28, 2017, 06:33:19 AM »
was reading small favors and I think I pinpointed the conception bonnie.

in Small favors Dresden  is researching the attack on him and the carpenter children. In the book  Dresden as narrator to his  story and comments on Bob and the romance novels that he reads. I believe it is  at the point that Dresden speculates on the possibility that bob would want to have a family and children that bonnie is conceived .

Jim butcher then inserts into the story Dresden finding a Calvin and hobs story book on the  basement floor.  The type of stuff that is easily dismissed by us the reader but is as important as the Angel Uriel or Bob the janitor leaving a copy of JR tokens The tail of two towers at the hospital for Dresden to find. The comic book is about a little kid and his imaginary friend hobs a tiger and some times stuffed toy.

Later on at the end of the book we discover that Dresden has come to the conclusion that Lucifer actually interfered helping  the Denarians .   I think that lashiel was suppose reassert control of Dresden but  because Lucifer had  involved himself it allowed Uriel to act upon what was going to happen.

So instead of lashiel gaining control and freezing Dresden when commanded to  by  nicodemus we have the conception of bonnie. Who is actually the mixing of spirits from Bob and lashiels shadow to  creating another spirit of intellect or possibly even a baby angel.  At the end of the book  Euriel tells Dresden while being bob the janitor that he helped Dresden  ih the fight by altering in an equal way cosmicly speaking to the help that Lucifer gave out.   He also said he took the long view of his help.  That is when he dsapears and Dresden fids an old copy of JR Tolkens “Two towers”.
It isat this point dresdens head starts to hurt as he acts as the surrogate wound for BOBs and Lashiels child.

Remember also that bob realy does not have a personalty of his own. Bob takes his personality from who ever has his skull. If Dresden had not speculated about children and family for bob. Euriel would not of been able to effect lashiels reassertion of control on Dresden by combining bobs spirit and lashiels shadow.

I think  when bob asked harry to carve him a emrgencie home it was because Bob knew about bonnie.
I think when mab nade a deal with bonnie it was to keep the natureof her existence a secret in exchange for heeping to keep harry alive.

DF Spoilers / even hand thereory a reposting from 2013
« on: September 18, 2017, 04:29:54 AM »
with Justine  being pregnant I thought that I would repost  this and  see if there is anything that others can say about My theory

I am wondering about key elements in the short story “Even Hand.”  In the story Justine appears at the business interest and office of John Marcone with a child and running from the Fomor.  My biggest question is who is the child and what is the significance of the child?

The child appears to be five years old.

I don't believe that Justine did any of this without a propose.  I wonder about Lara sending her on a dangerous mission.  Because if Thomas were to find out. I think that Thomas would take revenge on Lara for putting her in that situation.  Lara Raith knows this and would use someone else to do the job because of this.  This leads me to believe that Justine probably went on her own to do the mission.

Justine is Laras personnel assistant and probably knows more than any non Raith vampire about what is going on with Lara.  This is another reason why Lara would not send her on a trip to meet with the Fomor.

I am sure Justine's reason for running to John Marcone's was that everyone knows that the one soft spot in Marcone's armor is children. I think Justine ran to John Macrone's building because the only thing she really cared about was the safety of that child.  At the end of the story Marcone confiscates from her an envelope with information about the formers accounts in the mortal world.  I think that the files were meant to go to John so that he would not look further into the child.  It is easy for the mobster to assume everything is about money.

I am guessing that there is something significant about that child.   The child in the book is between 4-5 years in age “Even Hand” takes place between book 11 and 12. One year between books so I am guessing that conception of the child happened in book 6 which is when Justine gained her protection from Thomas.  It would be interesting if Maggie was not the only hidden child in the books.

I am interested in hearing any other's examination of what is going on in the short story.

Author Craft / political correctness in the writting community
« on: December 12, 2015, 09:26:25 AM »
I have a really good group I meet with once a week. our group has six members and we our all working on a book. last week the subject of political correctness came up and how it effects writing. I was surprised when one in my group started to talk about how it ruins writing when it creeps into a book. this surprised me coming from her because she could not see how it was all over her criticism of other people writings and had crept into her own writing.. She is constantly telling us that character is sexist or an idea should not be presented because you will lose audience if you voice the idea. I was wondering how many here our feafull that some books our not being written because authors are afraid of a negative reaction from the publisher or if it is published by society.

Author Craft / the use of proper gramer to tell a story
« on: June 28, 2015, 08:21:44 AM »
got a question to put out in the either,   today I went to a writer meetup where we read and commented on others works. My grammar is not the best and needs work and I value the criticism I get, I feel that I am strong in the area of story telling knowing how much description to put in and how to mix action with thought with description. one of the writers  was putting one word  in italics at the end of the sentence. I had figured out that the words were thoughts but I felt that for the average reader it was confusing and that the author needed a stronger  indicator to the reader that that the one word was mental thought .or to even remove it all together. All three writers at the table told me that it was oK.   because the word was italicized and according to rules on grammar everything was all right. I feel that a true story teller uses proper grammar but try's to go beyond having proper grammar to tell the story. am I right to feel that just because  it is technically correct does not mean that it should be used.

Author Craft / opinion wanted
« on: January 09, 2015, 09:25:28 PM »
I am writing a fantasy book that is aimed at 8-12 year olds in it I have one of my characters an adult say that she sees nothing wrong with indulging a child's belief in witches and in fairies that as far as she is concerned that indulging this  belief is no different then a parent leaving money under the pillow from the tooth fairy or at Christmas time helping a child with a letter to Santa.
my concern is whether my saying this is like going up to a child and saying there is no Santa ba humbug.....
I personally love indulging children's belief in Santa clause and I am sure I am not ruining it for most over the age of eight but I no that I might have younger readers who will be reading it to who Santa is very real.
my question is should I leave it out. it is not important to the book but it does help to give personality to one of my characters.

Author Craft / beta readers
« on: December 11, 2014, 04:49:00 AM »
I was just curies if anyone has a suggestion on how to handle beta readers.  I am writing a urban fantasy novel aimed at 8-12 year olds. . I was out today walking my dog and the kids in my neighborhood love to play with my dog. they have gotten to know me because I take my dog for a walk about every hour and a half to give myself a break from writing. the kids in the neighborhood  know that I am trying to write a book. today they found out it was a children's book and they were curies about it and asked when it was going to be in the stores. I had to explain to them that I am new at writing and that it might never get into the stores because I am not done writing it and don't have a publisher. I told them that only one of my chapters is ready for beta reading. I then explained that it meant that if they read it they could tell me what they like and don't like in the book and that if they really did not like something I want to know along with what they really like. I went home and then went through my first chapter trying to clean it up. when I was done I went over to my neighbors house and gave it to there mom to give to her kids to read. my question to anyone here is how do you handle kids as beta readers.
