I wouldn't give her any Powers if she didn't have control over any of her abilities. Instead, I'd give her an Aspect and Compel it to make magic happen.
ONce again, Sancta makes the point best.

DFRPG / Arcane Sanctum

I have a few theories about this at current, but I just wanted to compare with others. What does Arcane Sanctum give you with its rating.... does it mean you always have ingredients for spells up to its rank? WHat happens if your base Lore is better than your Sanctum level?

It would look an awful lot like a conductor using both hands to control an orchestra, but with two of their batons.

One of my players is considering something like this (specifically, her inspiration is Yuna of FFX), and we decided sponsored magic, with the sponsor being either the summoned creatures in aggregate or their ruler (i.e., a Bahamut analog) and smooth over the whole thing about beating the creature's will as part of the sponsor benefits--the deals have already been made, the summoner is just calling in a quick favor.

What I came up with for the tentative Evothaum (character's still in the hypothetical stages), amounts to:
Base, 1-shift spell gets you a minion for one scene, with no refresh spent, and a skillcap of 3. So something that might be useful as a second set of hands, but not really powerful.

You can raise the creature's skillcap by 1 for each additional shift, up to 5 normally (I'm thinking some kind of diminishing returns to discourage going above that--maybe you need an additional 2 shifts to bump it to 6, an additional 3 to get it to 7...or maybe they can't summon something with a skillcap above their Lore?).

Additional shifts can be devoted to powers, with one refresh equal to one shift.

So, on this model, her "Shiva" summon would have a 5-shift cost--skillcap up to 5 for Weapons, with an ice-based breath weapon. Since the summons are ectoplasmic bodies that only last for a scene, the Recovery powers can be cut out entirely to save costs. The Catch is factored into toughness powers (the ice summon would be obviously weak to fire, etc.).

She's considering having each summon as a Rote spell, with attendant focus items to help cover the power costs.

Thoughts?

Do any of their current aspects relate (or could relate?) to each other?

How would one handle Rashid's

mechanically? Is it part of Transportation which seems possible, or is there an hereto unspecified specialty of Thaumaturgy relating to this?

I'd model Bob as a character with Fantastic or Epic Lore/Scholarship and an aspect similar to Obey My Master and Spirit of Intellect. That way you can either bargain with him for an answer (Love potion) or spend a fate point to compel Obey My Master and get it that way.

I like this. I'd also give him spirit form, limiting it via "involuntary" since he has to be allowed out.  And Evoc and Thaum, but those might only be Dark Bob.

DFRPG / Soulfire, Hellfire, and Angels

I know either in the novels or via WOJ, it has been expressed that any angel (Heavenly or Fallen) has access to both Soulfire and Hellfire, but it is intent that determines which is used.

Does anyone know where it was?

Yes, we went live last Saturday. We've had a few one-shot scenes ran, and hours and hours of day-to-day RP.

It wouldn't corrupt nature/magic... it's Mother Winter's Staff, and therefore wholly party to nature.

Isn't a threshold of 0 a no threshold? Did I miss something?

They're trapped.

More details if possible (In PM if needed), as I don't have the books, but I've read all of them. Don't specifically remember Ghost Story as it wasn't in my top of the series.

DFRPG / Champions and Thresholds:

Hey Folks,

I'm interested in people's opinions as to if a building has no threshold, and a being that can't cross thresholds is inside it when a CoG raises the threshold, what happens. Are they trapped? Can they leave normally? Are the expelled unless they were previously invited?

-----

Second, somewhat related note:

Does anyone else think Bless This House is underpowered? A +2 to a non-existent or weak threshold is kind of a fail. I understand that it can't raise a Threshold that's stronger than conviction, but I thought maybe it should raise it /to/ the conviction level. Thoughts?

DFRPG / Ragnarok: New York City
« on: August 11, 2013, 12:03:52 AM »
Hello everyone,

As you may know, there is a 24/7 chat-based game of Dresden Files called Ragnarok: New York City hosted by gamingsandbox.com

I am pleased to announce that we have started sanctioning (approving) characters, and are live.

If you have any questions, please ask them here, at the Ragnarok Forums or at the Ragnarok Chat (see right side of page).

The game will be a PL 10, and nothing from Your Story is banned, though some things are modified or clarified. For Example, we are replacing Claws/Breath Weapons with the homemade Natural Weaponry found here.

It is set in a Dresdenless New York City.

Thank you, and we hope to see you there,
PatchR
