The Bar / Re: Weird? Pretty much.

Not yet. I promise to get around to it. :P
In other news, I have new glasses. The old ones practically had dirt ground into the lenses.

The Bar / Re: Karen Murphy, kind of a jerk

A lot could have been avoided if Harry had the sense not to protect Murphy against her will, and in denial of her agency as an adult and a cop. Also, explaining “It’s a wizard thing, I can’t talk about it and they will kill me if I do. And then they will kill you.” would have gone a long way to establishing a greater degree of trust, if not improving Murph’s temper.

I can imagine the dialogue going something like this:
Murphy: “I’m a cop, Dresden, I can protect myself.”
Harry: “Not against this. They will blind side you. You won’t see them coming.”
And then Murphy would have enough knowledge to decide for herself. It’s made fairly clear in the series that it’s Harry’s gynocentrism that gets on her wick, and justly so.

And there’s a very good reason for that, as the book explains in great detail. I’d give some bullet points here, but TT.

Just read the book, is all I’ll say, and make up your own mind.

Tolkien came up with the term in his 1947 essay On Fairy Stories, which I recommend getting hold of if you can. But it can refer to any internally consistent fictional or fantasy world. It is called “secondary world” to distinguish it from the real “primary world”.

@Regenbogen.... one is a WW2 memoir called One of Our Submarines by Edward Young, the first Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve officer to command a submarine. The thing is, he also worked for Penguin Classics before the war and designed the jacket and logo. To honour him, Penguin Classics made his memoir their 1000th publication.

Another is Blacklisted By History: Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America’s Enemies by journalist M Stanton Evans, which is a tome.

Finally, there’s Shadow of the Conqueror: Chronicles of Everfall by Shad M Brooks, an Australian Youtuber I follow who is a medieval enthusiast, pop culture fan and who has created one of the most refreshingly original secondary worlds in fantasy.

I’ve seen a few episodes. It looks very well done, especially from a technical and casting point of view.

Dina: I haven’t read Peace Talks yet. I’m working my way through a bunch of other books at the moment, and my reading list is growing space with mostly non-fiction. I will get around to it, though.

I keep up with CWG on Twitter. She’s fed up with the isolation, as you might imagine.

I have concluded: this version of 2020 sucks. Can we get a new one?

Yeah I can see that.
Most of the subs I frequent are pretty good about that, honestly, but yeah I'm not sure what I expected.

A Youtuber I follow calls it “REEEEEEEddit”, REEEEEEEEE being the sound of autistic screeching. (Autistic being used in the non-medical sense.)

BTW, as a sidebar, is it me, or does this board seem a lot quieter than it was? Weird used to move like a rocket, and the RPG area is virtually dead. It’s not like the old days. Is nostalgic

Well, if you will go to Reddit, best be prepared for madness and salt.

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it.
Also blue isn't the safest of colours. UK summers still have a high chance of frostbite.
Or being adopted by Nac Mac Feegles.

Shades!!! *glomphugs* So good to see you again.

I think I’m about ready to paint myself blue, run off to live in the woods and find some really good mushrooms. It seems to be the only logical response.

Does that get across how bored and tired of the lock down I am?

What about you?

@Regenbogen - ex-SEAL Jocko Willink recommends Jiu-Jitsu (probably of the Brazilian variety) and Muay Thai for martial arts training.

Also: sorry I’ve been a stranger, but my laptop crashed on me and I’m on a borrowed iPad until I can the computer shop opens again.
