OK.  I wasn't thinking through exactly what was meant by that statement.

I think the idea behind the lift crystals is to provide the equivalent resistance to the ship that water would have done for a water vessel.

But the crystals would.  Perhaps that was a mistype.

Yeah, I figured that the crystals were tasked with creating a sufficient analogue of a water surface, with the benefit of being able to control the "slope" of the "surface" that allows for ships to change altitude at an incline (instead of a straight drop.)

Are the sails explicitly described as being deployed like traditional sails on a naval vessel?  I know my mental image is of such (I am not a good study at aerodynamics, and Treasure Planet is one of my favourite movies, so I am not going to be so heavy a critique on functionality), but if they are not specifically described like that, then they could be basically canvas airfoils that work more in style of a hang glider.

Honestly, Azure and white makes me think Scotland's Cross of Saint Andrew.  Which would be a bit off, since then it would be Alba, not Albion (or Alban).

As for where the name comes from, there is no historical link of the Aurorans to the dawn.  Unless they are a French Spanish hybrid, in which case their is the Sun King.

That does fit her.

That was a mispelliling on my part.  I was thinking of Invidia from Codex Alera.  I was remembering the name wrong because I was thinking of her being a "broken" character.

All I knew was that she was named after a Muse.

As for my opinion of her, I feel like she could become a more likable character given time.  We do not yet know what exactly set the divide between her and Grimm.  I'm not saying that she is a nice person now, but the fact that she tried to get Grimm out of the way before hand does put some points in her favour.  She's still better then Invalida.

Doyalist is an out of universe for something to happen in the story (the term comes from Arthur Doyle who wrote Sherlock Holmes, and is oposite to the in universe reason as Watsonian Reason

Cassie is Ransom (the captain of the Mistshark.  I couldn't recall the proper spelling of her first name, so I took a shortened version.

Personally, I interpreted that scene as "foolish green officers with his head full of self importance".  Just because something is expected of people, doesn't mean that they follow.  I do not remember the context of the scene (I'll have to re read the book), but if the officer felt like he was under pressure, stress at being in enemy territory could have made him rash.

From a Doyalist point of view, I am sure that the officer was to serve as a counter point to Cassie's similar and much more controlled, (and effective) disregard of Cavendish.

I think it's more the sensitivity of everything involved makes the desire for a second path to check the other is what is making the switch over so slow, and so expensive.  That and the bureaucracy needed to organize everything also seems to make things so slow. But I am sure they had good reasons.

Everything I have heard, this is likely not a Codex Alera setting.  Or if it is, it is so far removed from that timefrae as to be something altogether different.  It would seem odd to me that Furies now only manifest in manufactured crystals, when they used to just manifest by nature?  It may be revealed later on that this is in fact Alera, but I would be skeptical until Jim has outright stated either in-universe, or by interview.

With regards to the Vord, keep in mind that Alera was not the first place they have been.

The book was released right at the end of September, so the paperback will mot be along for a while yet, I think.

Extract all the useful stuff out of it, and I guess you would be left with something resembling sand.
