I had an idea for a ward that included a conjuration spell to create a half dozen armed guardians to attack intruders if the ward is breached. I figured the summoning would be a complexity of base 5 for a moving construct+ 1 to make them human size+ 2 for quantity for a total 8 added onto the complexity of the ward. Would this work and how could I stat out the guardians?

Actually if you have a control of 4 and you are adding in 1 shift of power you only have a 1 in 81 chance of losing control of the spell, so if you put in a couple of environmental aspects, like greater circle and distraction free environment, there is only a 1 in 6,561 chance of needing to use both and a 1 in 531,441 chance of being hit by backlash after using both of them. Even if you only have control of 3 those aspects could still be used to prevent failure in the worst case of a -4 roll, essentially with proper environment there is still no real limit for a 3 or 4 discipline wizard, unless you are the most unlucky S.O.B. to ever sling a spell.

I haven't been able to find anyone addressing this idea so I thought I'd make a post to ask how I should handle some spell ideas I had.

The first was a blast of kinetic energy designed to throw a target through the air. how many shifts would this take and how could you deal with damage if you threw the target into a wall.

Another idea I had involved combining water and fire evocation to fill a zone with burning steam, by using water evocation to fill the zone with mist and fire evocation to super-heat it. Would this be allowed in most games?

In YS it says that lightning could easily be considered earth or air evocation, what I am wondering is would it be reasonable to say it was any other form evocation? Electricity is a form of energy so since spirit evocation involves manipulating energy directly, it could easily be spirit. Water conducts electricity so could you create a water lightning bolt?

Agravaine you are assuming that the assault failed in its goals, but the only bodies Harry & co. find are those of trolls so apparently no one from the assault team died, if no one died in the attempt it makes no sense to withdraw before completing your goal, I think the most likely reason for the attack was as a jail break.

In PG, Eb himself seems to think that the RCVs combined with the outsiders they encountered would have been much more deadly without a KOC there to deal with 'tentacles and things'.

While I'm certain (from his actions / word choice) that Raschid was offended by what the Merlin was intent on doing to Molly,  IMO the real goal was probably to save all those young wardens - and the experienced wizards accompanying them. It was also an effective action against outsiders, which is admittedly something that Raschid has a professional interest in... :)

So, I'm positing that the Gatekeeper was warning Harry about black magic as part of a goal to save WC lives AND act against outsiders. Saving Molly may have been just a nice bonus... 
This seems to fit with Bob's explanation of sending messages back in time, The Gatekeeper couldn't tell Harry what he needed to know to save the WC but he could tell Harry what he needed to know to save molly and as a side effect save the WC.

You're assuming that Harry turning the curse against the RC was all part of the plan of the BC, but that doesn't really make sense if Arriana is BC the entire plan is suicide, if however Arriana assumes that the RK will side with her against Harry then the BC may have intended to weaken the WC by killing Eb and then finishing them off with another major offensive led by one of the Lords of Outer Night replacing the RK, but Harry does his thing and the whole plan falls to pieces so when he gets back to Chicago they have him whacked.

I think it is quite likely Victor developed 3 eye himself, Harry says the curse was impossible once he realizes 3 eye is a potion he understands Victor is just running at a bigger scale using the power from the orgies. Monica says that Victor had been angry and that he gave her a sample of the 3 eye so she would understand him,which is probably why he created and he realized later that he could sell it as a drug. I'm also pretty sure that Victor was set up with the Beckitts by someone who wanted him to eliminate Marcone so that Bianca could take over more of the Chicago underworld. Had they succeeded Bianca's court would have a stranglehold on Chicago by the time she was elevated to the rank of Duchess in GP giving the RC a foothold to take control of most of the U.S. before starting their war with the WC.

Ortega would have needed to be a wizard (which he wasn't or he would have accepted to duel harry with power in DM) in order to be 200-300 when he was a conquistador. It is much more likely that he was born in the late 15th century and was turned by Arriana in the early 16th century instead of the 13th/14th century on the timeline.

Has anyone brought up the fact that Ortega can't be from the 13th/14th century because in changes Lea says that Arriana turned Ortega because he was a conquistador which would put him at the 16th century because the conquistadors didn't go to the Americas till then so Arriana would have no reason to hate conquistadors until then.
