If memory serves, this was to facilitate layout.

Seriously, thanks for calling these to our attention, especially the stats, which are my weak point.

And the stats blocks are images, which is why they're not searchable. :(

Excuse me; I'll be going somewhere and banging my head against a wall repeatedly.

I'll make sure Fred sees these.

I really should check these boards more often. :)

Publication date is 6/1, as Fred posted elsewhere.

You managed to take a pretty good photo with my phone, too. Thanks!  :)

Shocking! Are you sure it was me? I basically just made sure the pics came out and returned the cameras. :)

No, wait, I like the Rue metaphor, but from earlier on ;-) POOF, you're right there going "shhh," with a handful of Everything You Need, then THIS WAY! and instant Perfect Hiding Spot, then soft smile and point behind you, there you go, Exactly What You Were Looking For. Ta-dahhh.

Well, people aren't there to see ME. My goal was to be as unobtrusive as possible and let you guys - you wonderful people who stood hours in line to meet Jim - do your thing and have your time with him.

But I like the metaphor your way, so thank you for the kind words.

He had jeditigger acting as Gatekeeper, handing him the two books or items to be signed.

Every now and again we'd let three slide past, but Jim's goal is to say hi to as many people as possible, and he can't do that if some schmuck brings up 10 books. No way would I, or anyone else guarding him, let that happen.

You guys were amazing, by the way. So friendly, so patient. I am always impressed by the caliber of people Jim's writing attracts.

I was the chick during the Q&A that yelled, "The Building was on fire and it wasn't my fault!" From the balcony :D Jeditigger if I see you I shall say hi!

And YAY I did see you!!!

I think a Hunger Games is involved.

Best. Answer. Ever. Of course, I'm WAY more Rue than Katniss so I'd be SO dead. 'Cellie would probably be the one decorating me in flowers.

It was a bit worse than that, actually.  At one point right before the signing started, DCon staff counted off an arbitrary number of people and said something like "if you're behind this guy, you won't get in."

Dude, I can pretty much promise you we had no idea that happened. How discouraging! I am SO sorry. The whole "one signing only, per non-Guest of Honor author" thing was a big fustercluck. I'll make sure to check the lines this year and talk to the DCon staff about handling people waiting.  No wonder you had a bad taste in your mouth about it.

The Dragon*Con of three years ago was particularly heinous.  There were fans who lined up over an hour in advance that weren't able to get anything signed.  But cons are wising up to the sheer mass of Jim's readers and the fan demand for signing time and making allowances.  Hopefully, that debacle won't happen again.

When I first signed on to be Jim's sidekick again, I was asked what he needed. My immediate answer was MORE FREAKING SIGNINGS. They assured me that the signing policy that hosed us so badly in 2010 has been changed, and I would not be surprised if it were not in part because of Jim's experience.

Also, there won't BE time to chat with Jim before or after the panels, because lots of people have the same idea in mind.  So the people running the con will be running interference and agressively trying to clear out the room.  Imagine thinking you could chat with Miley Cyrus after the VMAs (BLEH!), and you get the idea of what DraconCon will be like.

In 2010 Jim did a lot of lingering outside the panel areas so people could get in a quick question or signature  in part because of the signing kerfluffle then. This year, considering his schedule - which is pretty much crazy - I don't expect as much of that. YMMV. :)
