Wards do not get washed away by rain because they are built into/onto a home's threshold. The same reason why thresholds aren't wiped away by the sunrise. They are constantly and continually being replenished by the simple act of people living in them.

Hells Bells by AC/DC needs to be used.

I'd model Bob as a character with Fantastic or Epic Lore/Scholarship and an aspect similar to Obey My Master and Spirit of Intellect. That way you can either bargain with him for an answer (Love potion) or spend a fate point to compel Obey My Master and get it that way.
Oh, I like that! There is a similar character in my group's game that the GM and I were trying to figure out how we wanted it to work in terms of game mechanics.

I imagine that deactivating a ward (as opposed to simply blowing it up) would take a fairly high Lore roll just for the the "attacking" character to be able to detect/learn what kind of ward it is and how it is built.

It can depend on how your character views elemental magic. I have a character where his view of magic is that it is an energy, just like electricity or heat. As such, evocations involving electricity, heat (heat, not fire) and light come very easily to him. But he has a lot of trouble with wind, earth or fire evocations. In his mind, fire is not energy, its a chemical reaction, so he finds it extremely difficult to use. Likewise, Harry has a sword cane which has been crafted to help with his Earth magic evocations. He's used this a few times for spells involving magnetism. For him magnetism is earth magic. But the same spell my character would consider simply another application of electromagnetic energy, just like a bolt of lightning.

So, its not out of the realm of possibilities for my character to learn to use magic to shoot microwaves at enemies. Which seems fairly gruesome in retrospect. But something like that would probably be beyond Harry.

I dunno if this has been mentioned before but any worthwhile GM (or I, at least) would begin compelling your ritual at some point. Eventually the supernatural beings/factions in the area are going to notice somebody moving around ridiculous levels of power and most of them, if not all, are going to have a vested interest, at the very least, find out what you are up to, if not simply take you out. And the more power you throw around, the more people are going to take notice.

In theory you could completely rewrite reality with enough magic (Jim has said this much) but no one is going to let you pull that off.

I know that. But she's so far in negative refresh land she probably starts in hefty debt to the GM.
FP debt? That's not how my group does it....

I don't think Mab has much in the way of FPs.
Anytime you invoke one of your aspects against someone or their aspects get compelled, they get a fate point.

I think "Legendary" is more like Mab's base skill, before she rolls the dice and invokes aspects and stuff.

9+ Heroic
12+ Mythic
15+ Godlike
20+ Why did you even roll?
25+ Cheater

I'm kidding about that last one. Mostly.

What if that particular template arguably has some form of Free Will? Say a arhat who is a disciple (scion) of Buddha. Or a scion of angelic origin - I was told that angels have some form of Free Will.
Angels may have some sort of free will but they are not free to act against their nature.

Also, the books say that a white court virgins first feeding is always fatal to the victim. Be careful what you allow for them.
Not always, almost always. Read "Bigfoot on Campus", the third installment in the Bigfoot series of short stories for details.

DFRPG / Re: Price this IoP
« on: April 30, 2013, 03:43:59 PM »
Our game has come to the point where Denarians are putting in appearances.  The True Believer in our group is tasked with defending  Holy Site that's a nexus of ley lines that the Denarians would like to destroy/corrupt.  Trouble is, as a group, we're not even Fully Submerged yet as characters: Wizard, Sorcerer, WCV (Despair), True Believer and a Wizard-Sniper (the latter getting his butt kicked by a BCV--moral: Don't leave the church!).
The group has nothing outside of the Trappings of Faith (holy water, etc.) to fight a Denarian should one show up and neither GM is comfortable calling in the Knights of the Cross as we feel the game should be about the PC's.

I proposed an IoP that only functions on/near the site and its ley lines that gradually loses power the further you got from it.  It's basically equivalent to a Sword of the Cross with all its powers and limitations, save that
1) Wielder loses the +1 bonus away from the sight of the site or the ley lines feeding into it.
2) Beyond X number of miles if functions as a normal sword ("X" to be determined later).  At that point the wielder is acting "off the clock" as it were.

Cost: -2 Refresh

1. You could make the big bad for that adventure not a denarian but something like one of their chief minions. Someone who is high placed but not as high as actual denarians. Nicodemus's mortal champion or something like that.

2. I once played a character who's high concept was "Wanna-be Knight of the Cross". He was essentially a watered-down Knight. I created a "blessed" sword for him to use, called it the Sword of St. Peter and gave it the backstory that it was once the ceremonial sword used by St. Peter, the first Pope. It was passed down down father-to-son down through the ages and kept by a family of True Believers for centuries. This gave it power but not so much that it was on par with the Swords.

Display Case / Re: Perfect Casting, part 2

I've always pictured Michael Carpenter as taller and more more substantial than Ewan McGreggor, more like Hugh Jackman.
I am perfectly aware he's not the right build. Body-building during pre-production and shoe inserts/trick photography could fix some of that. That's not the point I am getting at, though. I think he has what it takes to bring the character and personality of Michael Carpenter to life, which I think is more important. I was thinking the same thing when Zachary Quinto originally had my vote as Harry Dresden.
