Display Case / Re: Perfect Casting, part 2
« on: August 28, 2011, 01:27:08 AM »
I posted a pretty much full casting list about...17 pages back, but didn't provide any pictures.  Here goes, then for the main male characters (I'm still going back and forth on the Senior Council, so they're absent from this list):

Harry: Zachary Levi (for early 30s Harry)

Thomas: Matt Bomer

Morgan: Stephen Lang

Michael: Tom Selleck or Liam Neeson

Marcone: Edward Norton

Nicodemus: Robert Knepper (I'm drawing a blank on how old Nic is supposed to look)

Sanya: Mykel Shannon Jenkins

Fr. Forthill: Ron Rifkin

Mort: David H. Lawrence III

Butters: Breckin Meyer

Kincaid: Christian Slater

Thanks for setting it up! I submitted a request, too!

I'm late to the party, but I wanted to say that it was great to see everyone last Saturday. We need to do this again!

And DrkChapel claims he's read more of Ghost Story since Saturday...

I'll start calling Burger Kings in the general DC vicinity in late September/early October to inquire about reserving half the restaurant for our next bimonthly Dresdenites R Us meeting...  ;D

Yep, all good now!

You da man, Iago!

Starting this morning, I've been unable to post new topics in the DF Spoilers, DF Books, or the Bar.  That is, the New Topic button just isn't there.

I got on this morning and the New Topic button was there, so I was typing up a new topic in the Bar, but when I clicked Post, I got an error message saying that I didn't have permission to post there, or something to that effect.  I refreshed and then went back to the Bar, and that's when I noticed that I don't have the New Topic button anymore...

EDIT: And I don't have the Reply button for threads in those forums, either.

Site Suggestions & Support / Re: Response time?

I'm still getting a lot of random slowdowns.  Most of the time everything is quite zippy, but sometimes a page will take ages to load, and I've gotten a number of connection/server error messages.  They apply across the board, no matter the browser I'm using, IE7 at work with a good connection, Firefox 6 or 7 at home with a faster connection, or on my phone.  Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the slowdown/nonoperable periods--that is, they happen randomly throughout the day and night, which, unless the server is malfunctioning, doesn't seem to imply that the server is being overloaded.

Who knows?

I will bow to the better judgement of Iago and the likes of Count Shecknara.   ;D

Eh, I don't really see him as Harry.  Not my cup 'o tea.

Who says there's a difference? Obviously, if you were a casting director, it would be at least a little about how you see them. I've cast a great many characters in my head, and can watch the books play out like a movie with my cast in my imagination. (Even though some of them are too old or passed away.) That makes my cast my perfect cast. :)

I always saw Katee Sackhoff as Gard.

Eh, I see Tricia Helfer more as Gard than Katee Sackhoff.  Hmm, I don't seem to recall Gard wearing a slinky red dress, though...  ;)

It was great meeting everyone who showed up tonight!  For those of you who didn't show up, but said you would, tsk, tsk, tsk.

Bah, real life has no business intruding on your plans!  ;D

If anyone in the general NOVA/DC/Maryland area has facebook and is interested in meeting up as a group fairly regularly (every couple months or so), shoot me a PM and I'll try to coordinate more meetings.

For Molly, how about this woman?  ;D

Kinda reminds me of a story my dad told me years ago about when he was in college.  They had some demonstration on how to knock down a load bearing brick wall (why that was the subject of a demonstration, I have absolutely no clue, since my dad was a dentristry major at the time).  Two guys showed their respective ways of knocking it down--guy #1 exerted brute force and smashed his wall down using a sledgehammer in about 10 minutes.  The other guy examined his wall for about 5 minutes then knocked out a few bricks, which caused the wall to collapse on itself.

Same result, just that guy #2 used a lot more skill, and without expending the massive amount of energy that the other guy did.

In fact, don't tell Bob, but right now am trying to decide whether to turn him in for an Android vs. iPhone in February when my 2 year contract is up... :o

Going off topic, I made the Blackberry-Android switch in March after having a Blackberry for three years.  Absolutely LOVE my Android phone!

As you might guess, big, sad, puppy dog eyes go a long way with me, since, after all, my avatar is a golden retriever!

Habu987 is the grand master of this event, but it's an open event so am sure there is no problem joining in the fun.  Welcome!

And I can never pass up on the big, sad puppy dog eyes, so you're good to go, DrkChapel!  With your name on the list, that brings us up to 15 confirmed folks for this get together.

I've edited my post on the first page to get the attendance list up to date and to add in details about the meeting place/time.

All right, here's the dealio:

We've got a reservation at Tir na Nog for 15 people at 5:00 under the name of Harry Dresden.  Here's the website, if anyone is interested: http://www.tirnanogbaltimore.com/homepage.php.  They've got directions and stuff about parking on there.  All good information for those of us (such as myself) who are not familiar with Baltimore and will be driving in.

******

On a rather amusing side note, it's pretty funny to call an Irish bar and have someone with an almost incomprehensible Asian accent answer the phone.  That was a fun five minutes trying to communicate the reservation details before she handed the phone off to a manager, who spoke (and understood) English just fine...  ;D

Reminds me of when I went to Spain a few years back--spent a couple nights frequenting an Irish pub in Madrid that was owned and operated by a Romanian family.

Anyhoo, look forward to seeing everyone there!

(and by the way, hopefully I won't be *the* loser that shows up at 5:00 and is stuck drinking by himself for an hour before anyone else shows up...  ;)

44
All right, looks like Tir Na Nog it is!

I'll call and make a reservation for 15 people at 5:00.

Stay tuned to find out the riveting results of one man's journey into the wild that is making a group reservation in Baltimore...

45
All right, sorry it's taken me so long to get back in on this (the last five days have been extremely hectic workwise)!

I've updated the attendance list.

Looks like we've got two foodalcoholization venues proposed:
-Pratt Street Alehouse (downside is that it's close to the Con and might be packed)
-Some place in Fell's Point (downside is that we don't have a specific place picked out)

If we can get a place chosen today, I'll call and try to make a reservation tonight.

Which place do y'all want to eat and drink ourselves into a stupor at?  And what time should I make the reservation for?
