DFRPG / Iron Kingdoms with FATE
« on: April 04, 2011, 08:48:55 AM »
I am a big fan of the Iron Kingdoms campaing setting. If you are not familiar with the setting here is a link on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Kingdoms#Populations_of_the_Iron_Kingdoms

I would like to run an Iron Kingdoms campaign for my group but I would use the Fate system from DFRPG. I have some ideas but I would like to hear your thoughts and suggestions how to model some of the specific IK classes( like the Gunmage and the Warcaster) and the playable races. I was thinking to giving the races some special abilities from DFRPG( like giving Ogrun Hulking Size and Inhuman Strenght). There are 6 playable races in the IK: Humans, Dwarves, Elves( Iosan and Nyss), Gobbers( Gobber and Bogrin), Trollkin and Ogrun.
Thanks for your help! :)

Site Suggestions & Support / Re: New and awesome smileys suggestions

Due to the periodic need to update the site software, Fred makes a point to install as few modifications as possible.  However, you can google for free smileys (here's one site) and use the img tag to insert them into your post.

Just please use smileys in moderation, especially animated ones!  We don't want to give anyone motion sickness. :D

I didn't know about that site. Thank you!
And I will control myself when posting smileys, I promise ;D
I think Chiro is going to like the vampire smiley

Hello there,

I would like to request a couple of new smileys if it isn't too much of a problem. I would like a pirate smiley(perhaps even a Bob the skull pirate smiley-can you sense the awesomnes :o ), and people have also mentioned a face-palm smiley and a smiley that wiggles his eyebrows. And I believe there was mention of a crazy smiley...although I don't know how that one would look. Probably crazy! ;D
If anyone else has suggestions or ideas please post them :)

Thank you!

Do you really only get one action?
Or is it that you only get one ROLL?

Sure, you can have your character stand still, fire one bullet from his fully-automatic high-powered assault rifle, and call it a day (make a Guns attack against an enemy)...
...
OR...you can somersault over the heads of a dozen ghouls, your assault rifle blazing, kick off the wall of the alley they're likely now cowering in, and land, triumphant, on the roof of the building opposite (zone-wide spray attack against an adjacent zone modified by athletics with a supplemental action to move to a third zone adjacent to the other two - overcoming a significant barrier, no doubt)

You get awesomness points. I have no problem with having only one attack per turn. It speeds thing up. That always bothered me in d&d, you have four players and each player has about 4-5 attacks(or even more) and in that case combat lasts for hours and hours... Fate is simple and fun,and you can do things you couldn't do in d&d :D

DFRPG / Re: Does the poison from fists ignore toughness armour?
« on: March 06, 2011, 04:44:42 PM »
I agree with both Mal_Luck and MijRai. I discussed this with my group and we agreed that poison bypasses armor.
Talk it over with your group and decide how it works for you. Thats the best way :)

Hm, I compel my players a lot during sessions. We never had problems with the quantity of fate points.
You should try to self-compel yourself more ofthen. Perhaps try to change some aspects you have to something you can use more ofthen and something your GM can compel more easily.

I'm familiar with the aim rules (manoeuvre to place an "In My Sights" aspect or something similar). But what're the called shots rules? I'm not familiar with them.

I dont have the books in front of me right now, but its placing a maneuver on the target basically. You hit the RCV in the belly, and place an aspect on him...like a "Ruptured blood sack" aspect which you can tagg or invoke for effect...or to get a straight reroll or +2 bonus on your next attack.

My group had a few encounters with RCV. We used the Aim and Called Shot rules for targeting their bellies. That bypasses their toughness and recovery powers, and if the RCV take consequences you can invoke for effect to say that their blood supply is drained and that they are taken out.

These rules seem a bit overpowered to me, and more actions would slow combat and encounters. Thats one of the things I love about FATE, there aren't monsters or players with 10 attacks/ turn.

Perhaps if you made these rules into stunts they would be better balanced. Players could do more with fate points, but not everyone could use them so it wouldnt slow down the game.

Awesome backstory!

It could be run with only one player... Harry solves most of his problems alone... You could play it like that with one player, and if the situation calls for more players just introduce a couple NPC-s to help your player.

The idea was that her lover died and used his death curse to bless her with a way to keep her soul. It was a cool character.

Nice idea, seems like a fun character to play :)
I would perhaps allow my players to play a RCV if they came up with a good explanation( like the above)!
