Aliens are awesome and were a main protagonist in science fiction, but it seems like they have taken a backseat lately. Sure they are alien races and sometimes they are aggressive, but we are talking about some grade A, nasty, destroy the planet and species aliens here. Where have they gone, what can be done to bring them back, or are the really nasty ones just hiding in the pages of an undiscovered book? We will try to answer these questions and then some.
Panelists: Timothy Zahn, Elizabeth Bear, Kevin J. Anderson, Jim Butcher, L.J. Hachmeister, Michael Stackpole

3pm – 4pm: Creating Detectives (North 126AB)

Folks may also be interested in attending Priscilla Spencer’s (me!) panel on Fantasy Mapmaking on Thursday! It doesn’t conflict with any of Jim’s events (in fact, he’ll be cheering me on from the audience because he is a Grade A Friend and Excellent Human Being), so I hope to see you there.

We have Jim’s schedule for DragonCon, and it’s intense! Readers will have abundant opportunities to hear Jim speak and get their books signed, and even to attend the premiere of the Dresden Files fan film Red Sun!

DF Reference Collection / Re: Dresden Files: Series Timeline
« on: March 11, 2017, 08:58:49 PM »
Bolding of quote from book added:
which would seem to imply that the events of Storm Front take place no earlier than 2000."  I'm guessing 2002 at the very earliest, meaning that the Dresden books occur a few years into the future with respect to when they're published.

I'm tired of living in the shadows...It was ME! I'm the anonymous tipster...but seriously, did I forget to sign that email?

I can't find a reference to the bolded quote in the timeline any more...  I searched through the replies in the topic and couldn't find the reason, so can you provide it?

I stopped considering that line evidence of a post-2000 start point because of all the various hints that the series was "written" years later.  From that perspective, Writer!Harry was referring to an overall trend that the books take place along.  Storm Front taking place at the end of the twentieth century makes total sense to me.

Random bit of specificity I can across that might fit in the "Eb and Langtry have know each other since way back" item:

Great catch!

My guess is a tiny little con that takes place every Labor Day weekend in Atlanta and has a parade. I know I'll be back there this year and would love to see Jim there again.

Seeing as how it's Jim's fiancee's favorite con, that would be an excellent guess.  Cannot confirm or deny, though. :D
