DFRPG / Re: Stats for Rawhead and other creatures?
« on: December 12, 2022, 10:38:50 AM »
Some Strength, some Toughness, some Recovery. Hulking Size for the big ones. Maybe a grappling stunt or two to represent absorbing people. Perhaps a Feeding Dependency on the Recovery, or something along those lines.

Still, this doesn't feel like much to go on. Beyond the obvious, I'm not sure what to do with the skills and the Aspects.

Not that I know of.

I'd be willing to take a crack, but I honestly don't remember much about Rawhead. What's it do?

The wiki has a bit to say about their lifecycle, and makes clear that they get big. But I'd want more to go on before writing.

One debt is equivalent to one Fate Point, so unless you need to clear your extra stress track twice a session you're clearly coming out ahead there.

Well, there is this custom Power.

I'm not sure who wrote it, but looks like my work. Even if I did write it, I can't say I'm a fan of it. Feels abusable at lower levels and crushing at higher ones. Canonical Feeding Dependency has similar issues, of course.

Anyway, it's there if you wanna use it.

Debt generally doesn't work that way, but I suppose there's no reason it couldn't.

And permission to take Powers shouldn't come with mechanical drawbacks; Templates aren't balanced against one another, after all. Plenty of games just let people take whichever Powers seem fitting and they work fine. So there's no reason druids shouldn't be able to take physical Powers normally.

The Sponsored Magic looks pretty good. Don't think it needs to cost 5, though; it's normal for a Sponsored Magic to have some kind of extra benefit, and this doesn't seem like an especially powerful one.

I'm not so sure about the Tattoos. It's not clear what you actually use the stress track for; can it absorb attacks? If so, which kind? And if you need to take debt to clear boxes, why not just invoke Aspects to defend instead of bothering?

And as for the library bonuses, they're fine but they build upon the most-ignored rules in this game. I don't think I've ever seen libraries played as written.

Being able to build enchanted items into your body's a neat extra, though.

Not really clear on why you'd want to associate other powers with your tattoos. Is there meant to be a Refresh discount?

There's an RPG-specific subreddit which sees at least little activity.

And while this place is very quiet and sleepy, it's not dead. Ask a question here and you're likely to get an answer.

Do you have the Fate System Toolkit?

It has a rather evocation-esque magic system called Stormcalling in it. And a bunch of other, more thaumaturgy-like, systems too.

That aside, you might be able to port over DFRPG spellcasting more or less unchanged if you also port over the other Powers. The systems are really very similar, apart from DFRPG's heavy focus on Powers.

The main sticking point is that Core compressed the skill list. Maybe Will could take the place of Conviction, while a magic-specific skill called Spellcasting could do Discipline's job. Might pick up some parts of DFRPG's Lore, too.

Sorry, this one slipped through the cracks for me.

First story and guest star Aspects seem a little redundant. And for Lethal Weapon I'd just use Claws.

Power level's surprisingly high, but I guess that's just a personal choice.

Otherwise, looks pretty solid. At least to my limited knowledge.

Thanks Sancta,

It would be great if you could throw something together.  I always like your creations.

I'd be game to try with a bit more information. Right now I'm pretty lost on the skills and Aspects.

I don't think anyone's statted up the monster yet.

I'd be ready to help, but I don't actually know the source material very well.

I do try to make sure a warlock's Aspects reflect their "sins". I don't recall ever picking out an Aspect and saying "this used to be X before they broke the Laws", though.

The Alphas have both powers, but Human Form isn't attached to Beast Change. They have more than enough wolf-form powers to get the Human Form rebate without attaching the two.

I'm finding the details of the Powers a little tricky to follow.

Does transforming do anything, mechanically speaking, beyond healing you and letting you make mental attacks?

What happens when you fail a Discipline roll? Involuntary transformation? Do you still need make rolls if you're in full woge mode?

That aside, weapon 7 accuracy 1 seems overly swingy. It'll usually do nothing, but occasionally it'll just wreck someone.

Truth be told, I don't know a thing about Leverage. But give me something to work with and I'll see what I can do.
