DFRPG / Re: NeverNever
« on: April 09, 2010, 02:30:55 PM »
Personally i am going to use using lots of different representations for the NeverNever

So local art and history for bits of historical never never (so in the NeverNever Nottingham Castle is still fully standing and grand and regal but decayed as the GhostKing resides here)

As well as area that have a specific Look so Wotton Park (has a dark creepy look due to it being a hunt ground of the Erlking and his Huntsman representative Hood)

Hope this helps

Cheers this helps loads...

I think I will get the player to use a combo of the two so

"Decendant of the Archive" as an Aspect to invoke and the "Eidetic Memory" Stunt as a reflection on Research when he can sit and concentrate

DFRPG / Item of Power/Sponsered Magic Question
« on: April 09, 2010, 02:20:54 PM »
Ok so I think I am beginning to get a handle on this but,

I have an Item of Power, that offers Sponsered Soulfire Channeling and Ritual.....

Using the power through the sword to create a Ward on an area from Demonic Influences, Spirit Damage (through Channeling) to damage a vampire etc all make sense with in the system and now completely understand,

Heres the question my player has just asked me, can the sword (does the sword) convey the ability for item slots?

I am tempted to say only enchanted items that use the sword as a creation factor so plunging it into a liquid substence to create a potion for example....

Also and the radon for the modify I now have a bother player asking if sponsered magic works though an item (the player in question is thinking of using a hammer as his item and being a scion of Thor/avatar of Thor but the powers in the hammer and is an hierloom)

I really need to get my head around this

HELP

does this sound right? (i don't think focus items are applicable as the sword itself is the way the power is focused/avalible to the weilder)

DFRPG / Eidetic memory and Lore
« on: April 09, 2010, 01:53:49 PM »
Ok So this is a quick one:

Does the following stunt make sense or is it two over powered:

Arcane Eidetic Memory
If the player has read or researched this lore in a previous scene Eidetic memory allow him to +2 to a role using the relevant Lore (this could be for research, free tagging an aspect etc)

So hang on just trying to do the Maths here-

Item of Power: Templars Sword
  • One Time Discount +2 (very obvious high powered sword)
  • Channeling +2
  • Ritual +2
  • Soul Fire +1 (am I correct it adds a plus one to the above base)

Total -3

Thats Brilliant  ;D

I had not thought of building the sword with the 'Ritual/Magic' power of the Templars into it........

That also plays really well into the character and feet wet campaign, so he will initally be playing just a True Believer Character Template but High Aspect "Squire of the Kinghts Templar" at an appropriate Milestone he ius going to change his High Concept to "Knight Templar" and cash in his Refresh Points for a Sword presented by the Inner Circle,

As a note we were inspired by the side notes in the Our World bit where Harry Rights " are there any good Cultists?"

It will also allow him to develope a bit and free up some stunts early on..... as a uni student with a destiny and link to a greater purpose....

Thanks Guys thats really helped  ;D

DFRPG / Knights...... an awesome Idea but GM and Player struggling
« on: April 09, 2010, 09:59:16 AM »
Ok so one of my Players wants to play a Knight type character,

However he is a big fan of the books and does not want to touch on the Knights of the Cross (also a bit over powered for my, feet wet campaign based at Nottigham University, side not the Campus is so big and with so much stuff our city creation for the first season is all based on just the Uni.....)

Any way he went and did some research and we were thinking that he could be a trainie knights templar, however we were wondering what template to base his character off of, so he needs some faith related powers and also we were thinking Ritual for some of the Knights Religous Ritual (mainly Wards, but some other things as well) and possibly a Blessed Sword (this was an Idea of something he may get when he gets a full Knighthood think he may have an organisational level of squire to start with)

Any way would you use Focused Practionar for this Template, create a new template, and does this sort of cross over feel right?

Anyway thoughts would help as we are having an odd time trying to get this to work mechanically in a way that 'feels' right

Cheers

Ok that makes some good sense,

(my poor addled GM brain trying to work all this stuff out.... do'h)

so uing the above example I gave (and just to make sure I have understood the idea, if the character has an Aspect refering to that source of Power/Intelligence he could tap into so say "Mina Pottersthwait Spirit, my personal pet homicidal occultist"

you would run this as a social conflict (representing possibly the consequences of using her as a source of information or power that he could tap into)

and thus create her like a NPC (fleshed out a little bit...)

or have I completly missed the mark!!

DFRPG / How to make a Bob.... (or spell casting assistances)
« on: April 08, 2010, 10:05:02 PM »
So I havebeen discussing someting with one of my potential players and an interesting question has developed how do you create a Bob..... Or a way of leting players get at k owledge they may not know.

The player in question wants to play an ectomancer (high concept: urban spirit fixer)

his family have been making deals with the dead and the living for centuries ands with some nice background the family have the trapped ghost of a murderess/octist from Victorian times that has centuries on infomation on dealing with the dead and spirits

How does the work, I did think enchants item from his ritual slots but undefined so that the character could potential use to get access to lore increase, access to arts not known (possibly a dabbling of necromancy if she was that bad ass) however I want there to be at least some consequence in using this power, making deal with her and I feel that then forcing him to use up his item slot is a little harsh. has anybody got any better was I could do this ????

DFRPG / Good starting adversaries (or easing in the newbies)
« on: March 30, 2010, 09:18:35 PM »
So I have Played a fair amount of RPGs and have just finished Reading turncoat (which is awesome)
however I am new to fate and am not sure the best way. To ramp up adversaries as I don't want to dive in with Gruffs and Red Court vampires etc.

What I would like is it start with some more 'defeatable' minions that can serve a bad guy like a re court vamp however there does not seem to be this hirarchy in Dresden has anybody got any suggestion for groups that would work like this.

Hi Guys,

I am looking to Run/Build the Dresdenverse version of Nottingham.

Do you think that running the first games as feet wet/waste deep and them being university students (kind of like Billy and the Alphas) and slowly expand out to the things going on in the area.

To start with they would deal with university cults (dabblers in magic), low powered white court using and abusing the students (actually think this would make a good big bad for the first arc),

what sort of low level threats do ytou think i could throw at them, think possibly an angry spirit of a dead student (possibly murdered by white court big bad), anyway just trying to think of some entry level type threats that would work well in the dresdenverse.

DFRPG / Re: Wierd Character Ideas
« on: March 30, 2010, 03:31:14 PM »
have an Idea for a character but not sure if it is entirely workable.....

Edward Gales,
Descendant of Sir John de Galeis, illegitimate  son of the Edward the Black Prince.....

What sorts of aspects would be suitable for a knight of the cross potential? (they are all decendants of Kings and the black prince was in line for the throne)

“Chivalry is in my blood”

With the exception of the sword there is no ‘specific power that the knights have, even Sanya states he is an atheist

I don't see him as a Lone wolf type at all, actually as a decendant of Royality possibly a leader of men, also a warrior and smart. (sort of a Robin Hoodesk, leading his men and working with them not dresden style, going it alone)

Anyway any thoughts would be usefull as I am struggling

PS this is my first post so please help the newbie   ;D
