We're both good, though I hit a bit of a speed bump today. Meh.
Happy birthday, Spot!
Thanks, DC! And speed bumps make the road interesting. :)

(((Dina!))) Yeah, it's been a good day - work-wise. :)

*sips the champagne and eats the cake that MF put out* Yum, that's really good. *chews*

Don - Don't do anything I wouldn't do!

Cen, what's your project about?

(((DC!!!!))) How are you, DC? How's the Person of Interest? :D

Happy Birthday spot! Glad you're having a good day! Mine was super stressful, hence my wine glass. Lol :) what did you get for your birthday??
Thanks MF! :) Wine makes anything better. I got lovely wishes from friends, a tiramisu from my server at lunch (he saw the others wishing me and thought he should get me dessert "on the house"), and a wonderful card from my buddies at work. The card was seriously funny. I should try and post a picture.

Heya, Spot, Happy Birthday!  Glad you're having a good day.
Thanks Don! I woke up to a sea of messages on my Facebook page. It was like people who hadn't logged in for ages logged in just to wish me. :) And I've been smiling since. How's your day going?

Hi Cen! :) How are you?

Hello Weirdlets! I'm having a really good day today - got some really high priority stuff at work figured out and my boss (and his boss) are really happy with what I did. :) How's everyone else?

Thanks Don! Though if the food is going to go bad, feel free to share it before it does go bad. I don't mind sharing food! :D

Dina - of course, which is why I am going home soon. I need to go home and not look at anyone and not talk to anyone after the LONG meetings I've had today.

Alright, after lurking in the other threads for a quick minute, I'm off to enjoy the evening with the hubby. :) (((Everyone)))

Drive-by posting time! I'm here to say: I'm alive. Just stuck in meeting hell for this entire week. I think I am going to be at my desk at work for a total of 5 hours this week. (I work a minimum of 40 hours every week just like everyone else.) So yeah, posting is going to be erratic.

How's everyone? (((Everyone)))

Author Craft / Re: Are Readers Growing Tired of New Urban Fantasy?
« on: February 11, 2012, 12:00:20 AM »
IMO, a lot of average to bad writers have jumped on the UF bandwagon (obviously because it is so wildly popular). This influx of writers and new "bad" books leads to disillusionment for those of us who crave good writing. Take for example some of the books out there that started off as UF (and rather good examples of the genre too) and that have now become an excuse for sleazy OMG-shag-everything-that-moves type of books. I am not going to name any names here, because that would be slamming a particular author/series, but we all know the type. Case in point: look at any UF section in a bookstore and how many people choose to hang out there and you'll have your answer. :)

I don't think people are growing tired of the genre, they are just growing tired of having the same ideas repeated in a similar manner.

Priscellie being who she is, you need not find that Iron Rod of Discipline. :P

And *gasp* Snickers bars don't make you soft. Shame on you, Wizard H for insinuating such things. (I may be a little scared of the "blast radius" comment - I don't want to be in the blast radius either!)

Ah. I don't think though, that anyone on this forum would really use that link except to rain insults on them, so it shouldn't matter if it took you a little while to fix it. :)

There, there, you can't keep your eyes on ALL the links everywhere! That's why you have the fine folks on this forum. :)

And never underestimate the value of appending the store-friendly identifier to other products not advertised in our store.  I know that in 2011 alone, I've spent nearly $100 in Amazon mp3 products, which are at a 10% fixed residual rate, so because I appended the identifier, $10 of that went to Fred.  When I bought my Blu-Ray player, $8 went to Fred.  Plus about $12 in residuals from everything else I've bought on Amazon since January.  $30 from ONE PERSON's Amazon spending!  Stuff I was planning to buy anyway is helping to pay for the website and Evie's daycare.

If more forumites took the extra thirty seconds to append the store-friendly identifier to their purchases (as I detail here--I promise, it's less complicated than it looks!), things would bode very well for the site's future AND Evie and Hickslet mk 2's college funds. :D  It's better than any "Donate to keep the site alive" button, because it doesn't cost you a dime!
Priscellie is correct, appending the store-friendly identifier takes about 30 extra seconds. I only buy my Kindle books using the store link. And if I were to put a number to the books, I'd say I've spent enough to make $12* for the site since August 2011 (*at a 6% profit share rate).

It really is quite easy.
