Cinder Spires Spoilers / Re: Thoughts about "Iron Rot"

#2 is likely not the case, they mention how high they can fly without tanks as being "way higher" than 7 or 8 miles, which afaict is comparable to earth.

This is is backwards, actually.

Quote from: The Aeronaut's Windlass, Jim Butcher
“What kind of altitude could she take us to, chief?” Journeyman scratched his ear with one broken-nailed finger. “Seven, maybe eight miles? Way higher’n we could breathe without tanks, anyway.

Journeyman estimates they could fly up to seven or eight miles, which is far higher than they could breathe without tanks.

I just find the Everyone is a Noble cliche just as trite as Everyone Actually Has Powers/Is a Jedi thing.  They both diminish regular people, the Noble version even moreso.

It says she is of one piece.  I'd say there is a lack of conclusive information, and hence anything ventured at this point is wild speculation.  I had a half formed idea that it may be related to age.  Folly is young, and thus the energies she's exposed to haven't damaged as thoroughly as they have Sycorax or Efferus.

Actually the gram is not defined by the amount of pure water, but as 1/1000 the weight of The Kilogram and the mass of the International Kilogram Prototype possibly being off is a matter of some concern. It is the only Metric measurement still constrained by being derived from a physical artifact.

Nah, the Duel just provided a convenient forum to announce the Spirearch's proclamation that did so.  Now that the moment is past it makes no difference whether Reggie gets Satisfaction from somebody who is now quite possibly considered a war hero.

Well that depends.  That coming out during the duel will ensure it isn't forgotten, and I'm of the opinion that the actions of the inquisition won't be widely known.  I'd be very surprised if it isn't at least addressed as having occurred/been resolved between volumes.

Nah, that duel established Cats as citizens of the Spire.  It's totally coming back up.

That's probably just a British joke. Ferrus and Sycorax drink at the same time he does.

Im thinking that means something along the lines of He kept them on-mission, Did His Duty and all that, and was then drummed out because they needed a scapegoat for some reason.

I suspect that's going to be a major plot point in a future book

Except they had a Scotty instead of a Caylee.  :D Unless Gwen became Caylee...?   :o

Their demeanors are worlds apart though. So even if she did take over Mr Journeyman at some point, I think Predator would likely just have a much more proper Scotty than a Kaylee.

So the main problem that remains is pipes that you cannot reach (because they are stuck in indestructible walls) and blockages/filtering.
One would assume the Merciful Builders foresaw this issue and included regular access to sewage pipes/tunnels for this reason.

The divide between layers is masonry, many of the upper layer's buildings are wooden though.  I'm really hoping we're going to get some good info out of future signings/AMAs.  There is so much about TDF that we only learned through Jim's comments, and I really hope we get some cool details for this series too.

DFRPG / Tips on Playing a High Lore Spell Caster
« on: April 15, 2010, 08:54:39 PM »
So, Im looking at getting into this game over the summer with a few friends.  Im just wondering what sorts of things a High (Superb) Lore spell caster would be good at?  It seems like you would get more direct mileage out of having a higher stat in Conviction or Discipline.  I just want to pick everyones brains for both mechanical effects and role playing ideas.

My current character concept is rather rough.  We're playing at Submerged.  Right now I basically have a few aspects in mind and my High Concept (Warden of the White Council) and a few other things, like a desire to play up having a high Lore (thinking something like Knowledge is Power for an aspect).

So, looking for mechanical effects that having a high lore is good for, and a few random roleplaying ideas.

(I did see the Enchanted Item patch and wow that does help.)
