Calendar Event Discussion / Re: Jim's 2011 Signing Tour (CONFIRMED!)
« on: June 20, 2011, 09:33:18 PM »
If you are looking for suggestions, I might have a couple routes for you.

If you take Route 31 south from 90, that will take you to Route 20.  Go East on 20 until you get to Route 59.  That will take you all the way to West Jefferson, the street that the book store is on.

Alternately, you can just take 90 East to 59 south and ride that straight to West Jefferson.

From there a left turn to go East on W. Jefferson and 3 miles and you are at the book store.

Two bonuses apply for those doing this at dates on the signing tour that are not on release day:

1) You wait nobly to purchase your book until signing day. Your sacrifice of reading time helps bump your store a little bit farther up the Maybe They'll Get Him To Come Back Here list. Win.
2) You aren't BURNING with the powerful urge to SPOIL ALL THE THINGS. Win.

:D

1)  Heh, I don't think I could even wait the extra day to start reading this book, tbh.  I'll be buying a copy here in town and one at the store in Naperville.  One of my nieces is into DF, not as much as I mind you, so I'll give her the extra book after the signing.  But, yeah, I do want as many return visits to the area as possible.  Definately Win.

2)  And miss all the 'I know something you don't know!' teasing I can do of people?  I don't think so!  Still Win :)

I was quoting Pat Rothfuss' blog, not Jim.  But the logic applies to most authors, I'd think!

Apologies.  I had thought it was Jim that had said that at some point.

Oh, this is sooooooo doable - only 2 hours away - I finally get to meet him!!!!!! I am so excited.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Questions:  Can we bring our older books to get signed? Will there be a limit?  Or is there some other way that would be better to get others signed? Also, do we need to get the book earlier and bring it or purchase it there? LOL, I've never been to a book signing before so excuse the newbie questions and I suppose I should get there early?  :-[

To add to Shecky's advice, I would suggest buying the book there.  That is I think what Mr Butcher stated at some point that it is simply better to buy the book at the hosting location as that helps the PTB know that it is worth sending him out on the book tours.  I know I will be doing that as well.

Ah. The post in question was kind of referent-free. :)

Apologies :)  My response was meant to re-direct thedeathhat to the fact that the Naperville signing is considered Chicagoland.  Sorry for the ambiguity.

I think it should be mandatory that he visit Chicago.

It's actually in Naperville about 45 mins or so from Chicago proper.  Nice neighborhood, roughly 15 minutes travel time from a mall, if you are so inclined.  Lots of stuff to do and places to go in the area as well.

JIM BUTCHER

This summer in 3D and Imax 3D.

And I just realized that my digital camera has video, so I guess I could conceivably record at the Naperville event too.

Nice :)  If the damn Evo 3D comes out before the signing, I'll be using that.  If not, I've got a flip that works just fine.

I know for a fact there'll be a flotilla of Flips and other digital camcorders.

I'll be bringing something to the Naperville signing.  Not sure what yet, but YouTube worthy, at the least.

It also has the Smokehouse Barbecue restaurant. AKA Nom Until You Burst 'Cause It's That Damn Good.

I considered heading to KC originally, but with Naperville only an hour away, I can't justify that, even though it is going to be the awesome release day.  I will count my blessings I get to be at a signing again.  The last one I attended was incredible!

HOLY CRAP!!  I am so frikkin there.

That is a heckuva drive from Missouri, btw.  I had mapped it out on the chance that no signings would come near me.  Safe travels when the time arrives.

That part was kinda weird...I was right there in the third row and I couldn't tell if he said Lash or Lasciel.

At the release party signing last year in Chicago for TC, the question was asked as well.  I recorded the Q&A on my phone.  When I got home, I reviewed it to make certain of what I heard.  Jim clearly says, "Lash's story is not over."
