DF Spoilers / Re: Is Mab Nemfected? Is Mother Winter? Something else?
« on: March 08, 2021, 10:18:55 PM »
Jim loves him some foreshadowing. He's showing Mab longing for her humanity. Her admission that she used to be mortal. The way she gazed enviously at Harry's burn. Harry's mantle shuts down his sensation of pain. Imagine how Mab's does the same thing, only writ large. Her emotions, even her common sensations are probably all muted so that she can concentrate on being coldly logical.

Mab either is infected or will be infected by the final book of the series. Empty Night, a sky without stars, exactly as she said. The stars will have fallen from the sky. It fits perfectly with my theory that Molly will fall deeper into Winter and be struggling, then have the Winter Queen mantle thrust upon her, an echo of when she was saddled with the Winter Lady mantle. (Although she'll probably order Harry to repeat his Stone Table command performance. The Winter Queen is a mother, after all.)

Mother Winter is the original. I think she is the fae court sponsor that allowed them to be the guardians of the Outer Gates. She's not going to be Nfected. At least not until she spills the beans about how the fae courts were set up.

I think in five or six years we'll have enough distance from it to remember all the discomfort and isolation to be thankful that we're not there any longer.

DF Spoilers / BAT Timing Is Perfect
« on: March 08, 2021, 02:16:20 AM »
PT/BG took place in 2014. We have 5 more regular books before the BAT, the final three books.

If Jim keeps his pace of the books have about a year's separation.

That means the BAT kicks off in 2020.

Perfect, Jim. Perfect.

DF Spoilers / Re: WAG: "Queen Mab is dead! Long live Queen..."

Leanansidhe is another candidate. And Maggie is being groomed to be the Winter Lady.

I think Mab's instruction to not feed on her knight is going to lead Lara to feed on the mantle instead, infusing her with Winter magic, and drawing her closer to fae. All it took for Molly was to be instructed by Leanansidhe. Close association with the fae seems to be the key to making on a suitable vessel for fae power.

Lara has a couple hundred years in the court of a pack of vicious predators. She'd do okay as the Winter Queen. Maybe not the best choice for the BAT, but beggars can't be choosers.

Lara does not feed on souls, she feeds on life force.
So, if she feeds on the Winter Knight mantle, she perhaps becomes a suitable vessel for fae power?

Thought of another one, In Peace Talks, during the kraken attack, she was swimming with bull sharks. Aquamotion? I guess that's water magic. That would also be assuming those were Winter bull sharks, and if they were just natural bull sharks, animal control? Geez.

DF Spoilers / Molly's new magic
« on: March 05, 2021, 05:16:16 PM »
Since Cold Days, Molly has displayed roughly one new magic skill per appearance. Not counting any air or cold based magic which presumably are inherent in her being the Winter Lady she has shown; In Skin Game, she magically healed Harry. In Peace Talks she enchanted an item to spec for Harry in a couple of hours, and she used communication magic to coordinate the deployment of Winter's troops. Throughout several appearances she's been able to move from location to location much faster than by physically travelling the distance between the two places. In The Good People she created matter from thin air and used temporal magic.

Molly is using magic far beyond her previous areas of competence. To say nothing of the major power bump from being the Winter Lady, her competence with magic is far outstripping her former master. Harry had better get some major magic skill in Twelve Months or I'm going to start losing interest in him. Sure, he's a knuckle-dragging bruiser. But in the company he's been keeping of late, that's no longer enough.

Any other instances of Molly using new magic skills that I'm missing?

DF Spoilers / Re: Dresden and Lara
« on: March 04, 2021, 03:30:00 PM »

Lara gains A real ally in Winter. The White Court is the weakest vampire court that we've seen.
Lara and harry have been attracted to one another for some time. I'm predicting that it's just physical and once they have a chance to exorcise the hormones they're going to realize that they'll never work long term. That doesn't mean they won't remain married, but it will be a sham. A political marriage only.
Harry gains protection from the White Council. Or, I should say, more protection from the White Council. Since they're a signatory of the accords, they couldn't just go and off the Winter Knight. Just as Molly still has the Doom of Damocles over her head, the White Council would be idiots to try and prosecute that given that she's now the Winter Lady.
Harry gains by access to the Raith Library.
Harry is protected from Raith trickery because Thomas is in the big house on Demonreach. Of course that still leaves Malvora, Skavis, and Barrowill trickery.
Lara might give in to her demon and feed on Harry, but my prediction is that she winds up feeding on the Winter Knight mantle. Which will bring her closer to Winter and possibly make her a suitable vessel for fae power. Better than Molly, as Lara has hundreds of years of existence in a court of predatory backstabbers. Mab is always five moves ahead in her three dimensional chess game.
This will also cause Harry to be further on the outs with the Svartalves.

DF Spoilers / Re: Does anyone else find Maggie unconvincing?
« on: February 28, 2021, 07:47:32 PM »
She's saving it all up for her teen years. Molly was also pretty good, when she was in sight of her parents. She was dressing provocatively, and changing in the treehouse before she'd go indoors. Good kids often grow to test their boundaries. In her childhood she may have learned that the nail that sticks up gets hammered down. She's afraid to stand out and only does so when she is forced to turn and confront her bullies.

Zoo Day wasn't super convincing, but it is a work of fiction so I'm willing to forgive some artistic license.

I hope we get to see Maggie's YA series. Jim has as much admitted that she's going to come into power. That will be fascinating to see.

Fidelacchius. Butters hit Sanya with the sword and it did nothing. Then there was a long-winded explanation of how it is more effective against the supernatural. The sword can kill Thomas' demon and not Thomas.

She was a changeling and chose fae after your character was grown to adulthood.

Harry has one that Jim can endanger whenever he needs Harry to do something he wouldn't do,

Harry has two children. One he had with Susan, one he had with Lash.

Harry killed Justin when he was 16. Presumably he and Elaine did not have any sexy fun times after the killing When Harry was 34, the presumptive H+E offspring would have been 18. If there was a child, they would be ~23, and unless they have power, out of the picture.

Hmm, Odin uses soulfire to reunite a soul with a body to create an Einherjar. Odin uses soulfire to create a Valkyrie. Valkyrie are all of the Geats, possibly Beowulf, or Odin wearing a mask. Does Odin create a Valkyrie, soul and all from whole cloth? Or does he create a body, bind a soul to it and create a Valkyrie that way?

Because he's got Murphy's soul and body.

DF Spoilers / Re: "Good People" Verses "Christmas Eve" Mab
« on: February 20, 2021, 10:48:22 PM »
Mab gives Harry a gift for Maggie, with provisos that she be informed who it is from.
Maggie is the daughter of the Winter Knight.
Zoo Day shows us that she is communicating  with (being influenced by) Molly, the Winter Lady.
Mab's gift allows Maggie to control the power of Winter.
Maggie will be close to 18 when the BAT kicks off.
Mab is angling for Maggie to be a suitable vessel for fae power should a vacancy occur in the fae queens.
