DF Spoilers / Re: How much information does the WC have
« on: February 11, 2023, 05:25:33 AM »
He was acting like he could take the entire delegation if he had to even on the dock. He thought it was a bluff because he didn't realize he could command Alfred to grab everybody, and the narrative is pretty clear that Eb read it that way, but then Eb went ahead and pretty much backed his play by acting to the others like Harry was someone to avoid throwing down with. That should have made Mai even more suspicious about why he's suddenly that powerful in that place.  Allow him to get out of their sight once the fighting started after the way he'd been acting like he could take them all was monumentally risky, if she knew he could have them all snatched up and taken below with a command to the spirit.

She probably does know something about the island from their wars with Kemmler. But if Mai had been aware that "take them all below" was a capability open to the Warden, and connected Harry's confidence to taking up that mantle, I'd have expected her to shoot him in the back the moment he bolted.

Eb can just be being honest - if Mai sends the Wardens maybe Harry seriously injures or even kills one before they subdue him. Harry might not be a threat to Mai, and isn't one to him, but even the spiders kill a Warden on the island. Eb is the kind to be soliticious of the welfare of the Wardens.  He won't treat them as cannon fodder

We don't know that Alfred can "take them all below" at once. Alfred might have to do them individually. If you have 25 WWI era tanks rolling on your position, and you can call one modern one - well, none of the WWI tanks could damage the modern one, which can destroy them all - but he has to engage one at a time - they can overrun your position while Supertank kills them.

and Harry's no child. He's been a regional commander of the wardens. At a major summit, he was trusted in security.  He's not SC, but he's no rookie either.

DF Spoilers / Re: Why is Mab trying to change Harry?

As for Ferrofax, I doubt that he'd care one way or the other about what the lessor beings around him were doing, or Nemesis.  He demonstrated that in Peace Talks, he has his own selfish reasons for doing what he does, and at Bianca's party he was there only for the gold.

No, I think Ferrovax would be interested in Nemesis. He might think he is amongst children, but he would pay interest if it is children playing with dynamite. Like Battle of Chicago, he pays attention when the events are big enough it can affect dragons.

My theory on Rashid is that because of his advanced foresight he will sometimes vote against Harry’s apparent interests to secure in the long-term what is in Harry’s best interests.

He may have deliberately NOT attended the meeting on Harry’s expulsion  so as to facilitate it,

Plausible deniability - his position is still unknown.

Quote
Bianca invited Harry to her party.. He wasn't going to go, then Susan stole the invitation and he screwed up and lost Michael's Sword to Lea.  He and Michael had to go to the party, from that moment on it was a set up,if not before.

I suspect it was already a set up.

I'm not sure whose set up it was; I suspect Mab, tho -- Lea's boss -- having Lea get Harry motivated to go to Bianca's party.  I remain convinced that Mab was deeply interested in recruiting a Starborn -- Harry -- as her next WK.  So Mab was both testing his mettle, and tempering him in the crucible of violence & confusion.

Want to turn up the volume in the conspiracy? Rashid Saw something. He reminded Mab or Lea that the Council should make an appearance, it is a political point - and who is in town? Harry.... (cue "Burning down the house")

Remember, Noah was only a conspiracy theorist - until it started to rain.

Mab thrives on conflict & violence; all of Winter does.

I'd say it is better said Mab thrives IN conflict and violence - but she chooses her spots. Mother Winter was more likely TESTING Harry than trying to kill him - like when Mab set her tests during Harry's recovery. Smothering him with a pillow? That's a test. The Summer Lady went flamethrower on him - THAT is an attempt to kill. Mab is a creature of rules, too.  Mab is all about being READY for war. Even her war a the Gates is a defensive one. I wonder how her relationship is with the Gatekeeper?  I'd be interested to see THAT dynamic...

I wouldn't say he causes trouble in the cases you sighted.. In the case of Aurora, she was infected and started a war between Summer and Winter, yeah, getting her killed pissed off her mother, but she knew it had to be done.  What pissed her of is how it was done, the little folk using steel box cutters.  He didn't make the trouble with the Red Court they have been trouble for a millennia, but he finished it.

He may not START the trouble, but he escalates it with his handling. He sees a mosquito on the wall - and hits it with a hammer.  Leaving a big dent. Bianca stirs up trouble - and Harry burns the place down. Bull in a china shop moves. Harry's not a thrust of a rapier, he's a two handed strike with a claymore. It is not unnoticed... I believe at one point Marcone wants someone  killed, and Harry wants the guy just stopped. And Marcone gives harry info. Harry says he does not intend to kill him - and Marcone replies he has seen what happens to those who oppose Harry, he will take his chances.

Several times Mab has said things like “finally a knight worth the trouble” when Harry defies her.  If his defiance and strength are so useful to her why would she want him to simply succumb to the beastial urges of the Winter Mantle as Harry keeps implying or saying in the books since he has become the Winter Knight?

I don't know how much she is trying to change him. He's a powerful agent without the mantle. With the mantle, he's likely far more powerful than most past Winter Knights. But that will and power...he's not an iron hand in a velvet glove, he's an iron hand in a spiked cestus. He is going to piss off Summer - getting the Lady killed will do that. He will piss off some other powers - like the Red court. Remember them? He causes trouble. But Mab will take the trouble to have his abilities.

DF Spoilers / Re: Harry should have trusted Ramirez
« on: January 28, 2023, 04:19:04 AM »
I'm pretty sure that what he's implying is that, to a suspicious mind with incomplete information, Harry could just as easily be taken as a Black Council member himself.

Who is the one Warden that isn't influenced by Peabody? Dresden. Who was Luccio brainwashed into starting a relationship with? Dresden. Where does the "Traitor" Morgan go for help when he's caught for killing LaFortier? Dresden. etc, etc.

Rashid even points this out when he confronts Harry at Demonreach in Turn Coat.

I'm saying it can be spun that Harry IS another Black Council agent. On the surface facts can be cited that can support that, or at least not contradict it.

How can Mab be sure?  Well, she throws a Patented Harry Dresden Anarchygasm into the depths of the White Court, and sees what floats to the surface...

Now that would be fishing with dynamite....

Easy Harry takes Lara to the Drive in in the Munster Mobile. What do they watch?

What We Do In The Shadows of course.

I'd think harry would want to honor Mab by seeing Frozen....

.

You also bring up Morgan, what happened to Morgan is reason enough for Harry to be less than trusting, especially in the face of the warning vibs that Chandler was sending him.  Morgan next to Luccio was one of the most trusted Wardens of the Council, he was their chief executioner.  Yet he also fled the Council, not just because he looked guilty, but because he knew they had no interest in any proof of his innocence.  In fact though Harry proved Peabody was behind the murder, and who knows how much more damage he did to the Council with his ink, yet the Council, i.e. the Merlin still felt that it was necessary for Morgan to be found responsible for the murder for political reasons. So we saw at the end of Battle Ground, for political reasons the Council trumps up charges that Harry killed "humans" with magic in battle.  Though these "humans" were altered by the Fomor and no longer human, thus exspelled him from the Council and put him in effect under a death sentence.  Was the angry Carlos acting like a friend when he gave that message to Harry? Did he acknowledge at all that Harry had a huge part in saving all of their bacon?  No, he just accused him of becoming a monster and that he should have talked to him...

a different spin....

The Bad Guys are trying to bring down the White Council. They get their claws in Peabody and his inks.  But it is not working, at least not fast enough.  Peabody does use his ink effectively in one area - he infiltrates the Wardens. To watch the wardens, the Bad Guys assign Harry. Peabody gets the Captain of the Wardens and gives her to Harry. This gives Harry insight and info into the wardens.

Plan not moving well enough, they have Luccio and her former apprentice go whack LaFortier. This will open a spot for their man Christos. Morgan gets the more-important-to-the-WC-hierarchy Luccio out, and runs to his ally Dresden to hide him.   The Bad guys say Peabody isn't getting it done, and is a complication - what if someone detects the ink? They tell Harry to reveal him. Peabody runs, the WC dispatches Harry to get him. Harry knows he will have backup coming. Peabody can't be taken alive, he knows too much. Morgan runs too, seeing a chance to escape with his cronies.   Morgan knows Peabody's cover is blown. He's a liability. Peabody can give Morgan up. Morgan takes him out. Morgan succumbs to his wounds. Harry cuts himself with the dagger, knowing help will be here soon, and comes up with the fight story. The traitor Peabody is dead. Morgan, the only one known to be with LaF at the killing, also is dead.  Morgan and Peabody can't give him away. Loose ends tied up.   They even send Christos to the battle of Chicago, in case Harry falls, to ensure the superweapons are recovered.

That is established fact from the text.

I think it is safe to assume that the White Court consider monogamy to be a tropical hardwood. We know Whamps are largely infertile and so spread it around, so during the period Raith was with Margaret he likely had hundreds if not thousands of sexual partners any of whom could have been Thomas mother. It may have been been a 1000 to 1 chance or greater that Thomas Mother was Margaret.

From the sound of it, she must have been favored, if not a wife, to get to invite her father to dinner with Raith. That's not a hookup. So if she is a person of status, affiliated with Raith, SHE is not likely to be sleeping around. So they know who is the baby daddy. Raith did, Lara did...  Margaret is taken, and the court will know it. If the White king's Consort is pregnant - I'd imagine the WC knows, or they have REALLY bad intel.

89
We know Thomas knows his Mother.  Unlike Harry he has living memories of Maggie Sr.  Does Thomas know who his Grandfather is?  That’s a different question.

When i said he knew who his mother was, I do not mean he only knew which woman in the Court was his mother. I mean he knew she was Margaret Le Fay, AKA Margaret McCoy, daughter of Ebenezar.

90
That is possible, but his violent reaction was to the fact that Margaret consensually slept with Raith at all, let alone had a child by him.  However Eb may have been in denial about this for years.

Oh, hates his ex-son in law for sure. But I think both the assumed dead and the hatred can live together. I am just giving a little possibility why Eb hasn't openly made the connection.
