I tried ebooks, but for some reason they are hard on my eyes.  I got a head ache after finishing an ebook once.  Though I am a quick reader.  I can finish your average paper back in less than a day

I'd be interested.  A pile of goo?  Hmmm....  Have to think on that one.

I would be interested also.  I have only had freinds read my work and (depending on the freind) they either thing its the greatest thing since sliced bread or they try to rewrite it into what THEY think it should be.
I also wouldn't mind reading other work and learning from them.

Author Craft / Re: Hark! (Characters)
« on: October 13, 2006, 08:01:41 PM »
I usually get inspired by something to create a character.  Either a song, someone I know in real life, random person on the street.  This is the spark in a sense.

Then I figure out where I want the character in the story.  What does he need to bring to it.  I give him some very basic traits based on that.

I give him a background.  I use the background to give him a base for the traits I need him to have.  I try to give him a realistic background.  Based on this, all the other traits my character needs fits into place.

Though sometimes I come up with a character first.  Then I create the world that this character lives in.  From that I can usually find some sort of conflict in it. :)

Disclaimer: I write alot in my head.  Not good at the getting down on paper yet.

Author Craft / Re: How dark are you?
« on: October 13, 2006, 07:05:36 PM »
I would consider myself a dark author I guess.  Most of my characters usually have to choose between the lessor of two evils.  They could either kill this guy or lets lots of people die.  Trade sex for medicine for a sick relative.

My characters also make a lot of dark decisions in the heat of the moment.  One character kills another character because he let his daughter die.  There were plenty of consequences to this action (this character that he killed was sort of under diplomatic immunity).

I think the darkest story I am ever going to write is set in a post apocalyptic America.  It takes a look at some of the current generation of children and how they turned out as adults if they didn't have someone around to care for them.

Author Craft / Re: Readers--what would you like to see?

I think we need good Sci-Fi.  Fantasy seems to be the in thing right now.  Right now the market is flooded with urban and high fantasy.  I would like a good space adventure that doesn't get too caught up in the details.  I don't want to real a physics textbook.  I want to read a story. :)

We also need a new superhero.  Someone with a good strong moral background.  Most of the modern superheros are given an edge/are antiheros.  As much as I enjoy a good antihero, it would be good to have something different out there.  Though you have to be careful not to fall in the Drizzt trap of having a strong moral background and not dealing with the consquences of having one (example, Drizzt fights his way out of dealing with the consquences of most of decisions or having to make the decision in the first place).

I delete the spam that was in my PM box but I still get a "You have 1 Message" warning.  My box is completely empty.  Is there another place the message could be so I can see what it is/delete if necessary?

DFRPG / Re: At what point in the series....
« on: June 09, 2006, 04:04:51 PM »
I don't think it matters when the game is set in the series.  I think the RPG will provide a basic set of rules on how stuff works and a bit of storybackground on the basic fractions.  In most games like this, the novels will be considered source books.  The only thing I think that the RPG writers will have to update are characters sheets for changed/new characters, which could be done in online supplements.

I am assuming that there will be two characters sheets for harry.  A suggested PC character sheet (probably based on book one) and a NPC characters sheet (up to date to current book at the time of writing).

You also have to remember the Golden Rule:  The storyteller can change anything they want as long as the players will let them get a way with it. :)
