There is a lot more ways of doing damage to a character than just physical.  For example imagine what spending time in a concentration can do to one's mind?  Or watching generations of loved ones die can change a person.  Would they go mad with grief or would they distance themselves from society?  What is one life to a person who has watch Rome rise and fall?  Also, what happens when they lose a limb or get locked in a box that is dumped in the bottom of the ocean?

Interesting.  Not using contractions was something I did on my own.  Well, in dialogue and stuff I'd use contractions, but in the rest of my writing I try not to.

I was thinking something much less organized.

For example, I just finished chapter one for my novel.  I upload it to my prefered webhost.  I post a topic on the Writer's board.  In the topic, I link to the chapter on my webhost.  Discussions and critques occur on the Writer's board.

I assume we can find a suggested webhost out there, but everyone would be responsible for their work.  Micky would be responsible for the board.

Perhaps we can use the board for discussion and have the actual work stored elsewhere?  Instead of posting the writing to the board itself, we can post it to a website somewhere and link it to the board?

You can easily convert documents to HTML in word.

I don't know how feisable that would be but it is an idea...

Write something.  Anything.  Doesn't have to be your story.  Something small and unimportant to get you back into the habit.

I too have an issue with putting my ideas on paper.  The brain works faster then I can type!

My big issue with writing stories is having characters do "stupid" things based on thier personality quirks.  Having do things that they know will cause them issues later on but they don't care and do it anyways.  I'm working on getting over it in my head, but putting it down on paper is hard.

I also unconciously borrow ideas from my own stories.  For some stories it's okay (they are basically fan fics that will never see the light of day) but for stories set in my own world, it causes issues.  I hope that when I actually get a complete story out, it will stop happening.

Can't really give anything helpful but your question about cracking skulls to get to brains reminded me of the scene in Hannibal where he's frying the agent or whatever's brains and casually pulls the top of his skull off, having sawed through it earlier.

I usually take fight scene inspiration from movies and books with nice good one's.

For that particular question, I am working on a zombie project.  One of the ideas I had to get to the brain was to poke two fingers into the eye sockets and rip the top of the skull off. You would use the face as leverage for this, but I don't think the facial structure is strong enough for this.  It might just collapse.

I am running into a few road blocks with my research on my current writing project (I would say novel but I only got two chapters so far).

Where do you go to get information on "taboo" subjects?  I'm not really talking about alterntive sex lifestyles, but more of "What is the best way to crack open the skull to get to the brain?" and stuff like that.  It's sort of hard to find information on that on the internet.

Also, fighting and stuff.  Where do you go for inspiration for writing such scenes?  I'm planning on taking a trip soon to the local university library to do research about it.  Is this a good idea or should I look at current works already written?

I can't right when someone is home.   I write a bit.  Get up and move around to think and go back to writing.  The boyfreind thinks I am taking a break when in fact I am still lost in my own little world.  So I get interrupted. :(

I don't use them in stories either, but I think it does help when I do need to create a character for a story. :)

Just sit down and start writing.  It doesn't matter if it sucks, you can rewrite it later.  Oh and don't second guess what you just wrote till you are at least done with your goal for the writing session.

I was wondering if anyone else practices people watching.  I usually people watch at the mall or while I wait at the bus stop.  The reason I asked is that I have picked up this habit of creating personas of the people I watch.  I usually don't use the in any of my stories (I should start carrying a note book around so I can write the descriptions down).

One variation of this is to try to imagine what that person would be in a different time period/setting.  For example, I would see a business man walking down the streets of downtown as some sort of nobleman, while the guy trimming the grass on the side walk would be a field hand.

Does anyone else do this?
