DF Spoilers / Re: Who was the real target of the bloodline curse at CI?

With regards to Ebenezer, also remember that Kincaid knew him and his work. Every major group has someone like the Blackstaff and it is probable that they have a basic knowledge of each other. They are all in the same line of work.

Hasn't Jim also said that Lea didn't really give Harry anything in the bargain but a boost of confidence that he could kill Justin in a fight?  So it was a pretty dumb bargain on the part of a inexperienced sixteen year old.

You are correct. Here is the relevant WOJ I found:

Should Harry’s first deal with Lea been covered by Maggie’s deal?
A:  Not really.  One problem is that Harry dealt with Lea the way that one would deal with another human, so he really didn’t get much out of the bargain besides some confidence.  Lea gave him the “magic feather” so to speak.
And, Maggie could have done a little better job on her deal with Lea, but she was kind of in a rush, so she wasn’t as detailed as she should have been.

Like, I know that Marcone is condescendingly arrogant, but I doubt he would be so much so as to think himself an equal partner to God Almighty.

It was not my intention to imply Marcone would view himself as an equal in this hypothetical partnership. Marcone knows his own worth and what he can bring to the table. He would use his unique abilities/outlook to work towards a common goal/outcome as the White God.

The most problematic drawback is that Marcone has a fiercely independant nature that buck at "heavenly" guidance.

Very true. However, if his newly developed code in MM aligns with the Knight's Purpose I think he would adapt. He would choose to view it as a partnership pursuing mutual goals than being subservient to a higher power.

I believe that the deal was contingent on power enough to beat Justin, not on his death. I would love to see Jim do another Ask me Anything Reddit so some longer form questions can be asked instead of the quick Q&A sessions at book signings. The nature of favors and power with regards to the Fae deserves a longer response.

DF Spoilers / Re: If Mab dies
« on: October 16, 2017, 08:19:09 PM »
Honestly, if Mab dies my biggest emotion will be shock/fear followed by regret tinged with sadness. IMO, Mab is either going to lay down her life in pursuit of a greater purpose or stratagem of her own design, or she will be taken out by the big bad as a means to establish the threat/power Harry faces. Regardless, Mab is one of the most, if not the most powerful being we see regularly in the books. Seeing her bite the dust is going to be a hard pill to swallow.

I personally think it is a combination of the overkill argument posted by Mr. Death and the need to make a statement. This war was started by one man who refused to back down and the Reds have not been able to put the White Council away despite their big victories (Archangel, attack on the hospital, etc). I think that had the ritual not happened, and the war continued, the Reds would have won due to their ability to replenish their ranks. Their victory would have come with some horrendous losses though due to the power levels of the white council, but superior numbers would have carried the day. They come out the victors, but don't look the greatest. It was a costly, messy war that may leave them open to another group like the Fomer.

To preserve themselves, the Reds needed a quick end to the war and a statement to all the other groups to stay away. The ritual was overkill, but it got them the spectacular death of the man who started this war and one of the WC's biggest hitters. It may even convince the White Council to admit defeat (like the nukes in WWII). At the least, when combined with the biological warfare the White Council could be defeated in short order.

This ritual gives the Reds revenge on the man who started the war, revenge on the man who has done them great harm in the war, a spectacular statement, and a nuclear deterrent. Other posters have mentioned the ritual's drawbacks, but remember that the Red King was suffering from blood lust which was certainly impairing his thoughts and actions. It is certainly possible that some of his lords were similarly affected. This could have made the ritual look even more attractive to them considering the amount of sacrifices that had to go into it.

DF Reference Collection / Re: Mab/Murphy Ironies

I think the connections are tenuous. I prefer Murphy and Mab as separate beings who share some similarities. I do promise to kneel and pay respect if you are correct at the end (for whatever that is worth).

I like this Proven Guilty theory. Neatly ties up some of the loose ends. I confess, it never occurred to me that Mab was intentionally kidnapping Molly to keep her away from the Black Council. If I am understanding your theory correctly, the fetches were sent by Mab the whole time using Molly's behavior changing action as the link. The eldest fetch was sent to take care of Glau and protect/test/train Harry.

I like Marcone as a Knight. I agree that it is actually not too far out of character for him. He already holds to a personal code that was developed through life experiences. A few different experiences and you get a different (better) code that allows him to be a Knight.
