I wonder if the favor the White Court did for Mab was depositing money into Marcone's bank.  Mab and Marcone needed people to start depositing into the bank so it would be close enough in idea to use as an entry point into Hades' vault in the never never.

The Laws of Magic are enforced by the White Council. They can enforce them against their own members, obviously. They can also enforce them against your average sorcerer, mortal practitioners who aren't members of the White Council, because they have no other Accords nation representing them - the White Council claims jurisdiction and nobody powerful is contesting that claim.

Fix the Summer Knight is a member of the Summer Court, an Accords nation. The White Council enforcing their internal laws against him just isn't going to fly.

I agree with that interpretation too.

In my other thread about Mab and the Council, Knightedbishop posted,"[Carlos] understood [Molly] was now the executive of a sovereign nation."

I think the Knights are treated like citizens of a sovereign nation, so the council leaves them alone.  Harry might be screwed because he was and still is a wizard, so the council can claim jurisdiction over him.

I think Snark Knight made a similar point above.

The understood to be a leader of a sovereign nation is really useful for the discussion in my diplomatic incident thread.

I agree he blow back would be on Molly, because Mab has plausible deniability.  I was surprised that McCoy called her a  warlock too.  Maybe he was just talking about the council POV not his own.  I'll have to pay attention when i read it again.

Basically what I'm getting at is what happens when two jurisdictions overlap.  Fix is a mortal (sort of)  and he kills some one with magic, which is a violation of the first law.  Does it not count because Fix is an extension of Titania's will?  Does it not count because Fix's power is an extension of Titania's?  Does the council have jurisdiction over changelings or only standard humans.  When you are a mortal and take on a fairy mantle are you now considered a fairy?  Do the laws of magic only count for people who are using their own power?  If a mortal makes a pact with a dark god and uses the power he or she gained to kill some one is it a violation of the law?  They aren't really doing anything different than one of the knights, but they aren't members of the accords.

Say Fix is sent by Titania to stop a mortal that is murdering changelings. The mortal has a small amount of magical ability, and is a member of the paranet.  His power is a watered-down version of the site.  He is also a serial killer that believes humans that aren’t fully human deserve to die.  He is killing them with a knife.  Fix engages the killer and burns him to a crisp.

The paranetters let the council know about the serial killer.  A warden is sent to investigate the situation and witnesses Fix burning the killer.  What happens next?  Does the warden try to arrest Fix? What if Fix resist arrest?

What if it was Ronald Rhule a plain mortal, not Fix a changeling?

What happens if its Harry freezing the guy to death?

What happens if its Harry freezing the guy to death, but he is no longer a member of the white council?

If the warden doesn’t engage, does he get in trouble?

If the warden engages and kills the knight, does the corresponding court have a legal right to retaliate against the council?  Would the queens even care?

If the knight kills the warden, does the council have any legal resource?

Would the queens be annoyed that the knight didn’t go back to the council with the warden and let the queens and the senior council come to a diplomatic agreement?

I think the warden would leave fix alone.  I’m not sure what the warden would do if it was Ronald Rhule.  I think the council would want Harry brought in under any circumstance.  The warden would probably comply.

I wonder if a situation like this is how Eldest Gruff got the purple Stoles?

If you’re a mortal working for a fairy court that has been given fairy power, which group has dibs on you?  Are you subject to both sets of rules?  The only one who probably has any idea what would happen is Jim, but I wonder how these situations work.

We know that Mab doesn't like to act overtly, and that she likes to kill multiple birds with one stone.  With this in mind let's take a look at the unfortunate incident with Carlos and Molly.  In Cold Case, Molly goes on her first mission as winter lady to Alaska. Her mission is to collect draftees from the Miksani.  They haven’t been able to send the conscripts because a cult has been abducting them.
She runs into Carlos and they take care of the cultist and save the conscripts.  Afterwards, they attempt to have sex with some disastrous results.  Molly blacks out, the mantle takes over and almost kills Carlos.  The winter lady can't become a mother, so the mantle didn't like it when she tried to get laid.

Carlos is based in California, so Alaska is a bit of hike.  I'm sure winter's intelligence network monitors the movements of the council's upper level wardens.  Of all the places Mab could've sent Molly why send her to a place where she'll run into Carlos?  Does anyone really buy that Mab didn’t know he was there.

Mab has a certain degree of foresight and she isn’t stupid.  She knew what would happen between the two of them.  What does Mab get out of it?  I think she gains a lot out of it.  It makes Molly take her new role seriously and respect Winter law.  Harry and Molly have never been on great terms with the council, and they might be pissed that the two of them are on team Winter.  Molly just made a first impression as winter lady to the council, she can take one of there most well respected wardens and cripple him without even trying.  Maybe that would give the council a reason to think twice about taking action against Harry and Molly.  The incident will also side line one of Harry’s allies.  The less people he can go to for help, the more he has to rely on Mab.

The timing of this was also perfect because Molly was new to being the winter lady, so nothing suggests Mab’s culpability.  It’s not her fault that the new person didn’t finish ready the mantle’s owner’s manual.  The council would be less likely to believe this was an accident if Molly had been on the job longer.

Welcome to the forums Capt Murphy!

This has been discussed a little bit around here.  It's not the craziest theory.  I hope to see Murphy join some sort of government task force that deals with the supernatural, but the summer knight theory is definitely plausible.

I always look forward to getting to Barnes and Noble pretty early in the day, getting a coffee and getting my book.  Amazon will get it to me just fine and I have coffee at my lace, but is slightly less special.

Maybe this is Harry's fault, he knocked over some of the disease jars in the Mother's cabin.

Molly's issue is definitely an issue unique to the ladys.  I totally agree.  I was just using that as an example of the mantles' having a defense mechanism.  I don't know.  I think you bring up an interesting idea.  The mantle might be immune from losing energy to a wampire, but the rest of Harry could be vulnerable.  The Knight mantle is definitely less important than Lady's mantle it might not have any built in defense.

Yeah he made it in Jury Duty, but in the newest chapter, Mab's comment does make it seem less likely that she has his old one.

Yuillegan: I reread ghost story recently and kind of wondered about that line.  It's a good thread topic.  Bob could be showing off his knowledge to try to intimidate Dresden.  As for how Bob could know McCoy's style, he did write at least one textbook on magic.  Maybe staff creation is talked about in a text book.  Who knows, the white council might have been cool with Bob before he was acquired by Kemmler.  Maybe Bob worked for Ebenezer at some point.
