DF TV Series / Re: POLL: End Game Opinion of the Series
« on: May 04, 2008, 04:09:48 PM »
So about 8 percent of the people in this poll found the television series to be somewhat lacking. Not a surprise when you consider that most of us here are longtime fans of the books. The bottom line for me was that even though it was different from the books, it was better than 90 percent ( and I'm being generous ) of the shows on the Sci Fi channel. Wish it had a chance on one of the regular broadcast channels because I still believe it would have garnered all of the former Buffy fandom plus lots of other non-fannish folks who enjoy a good detective story and would find the magical aspects novel and entertaining.

The dates are April 25-29 . I'm wondering, are there any men going besides authors, agents, and publishers ? Do men admit to being fans of Romance fiction ? Of course if you are an unattached male I suppose your odds of meeting a nice female probably goes way up  ;D

Very nice. By any chance will there be copies of White Knight available for autographs ? The release date says April 3rd but that is awfully close.

Non-Spoiler Answers / Re: Question~ Dresden Books: On writing

First person can be wonderful if you write like Jim Butcher or Charles Dickens or Mark Twain or Herman Melville or Harper Lee or Charlotte Bronte or Mary Shelley but for most people it is too hard to sustain. The 2 edged sword of limiting the reader to learning things as the character learns them works especially well in detective stories where they are uncovering details at the same time. The problem is the reader must also learn of all the other characters through the narrator and see them through his or her viewpoint. When it is done well there is nothing that beats the intimacy you feel with the narrator. Anyone who has read David Copperfield, Jane Ayre, To Kill A Mockingbird, Frankenstein, and so many more will understand what I am speaking of. It can also be done very badly and in fact is most often done very badly. Let's not talk of that. A certain actor I met said that being the lead character in a television series can be like being the character in a first person narrative. Almost everyone can see what is coming exceptfor that character. Imagine being in that position for 4 or 5 years  ::)

Site Suggestions & Support / Re: Fan Art and Audio Books

P.S., I love Erin Allen's stuff!  I could stare at her "Love Potion" painting for an hour and still be discovering cool new details.

Those are very cool pictures.  I can't remember who tera is, though...
Tera West was introduced in Fool Moon. She is a were person who acted as mother/leader to the "teenage wereworlf" pack. She was engaged to the Lupe Garou who took apart the police station.

Would you possibly make a spot to discuss ( and maybe display ) fan art?  That shouldn't be a problem for Jim.
Erin Allen's stuff comes to mind  ;D

And what about a place under books to discuss the audio books ?
