Calendar Event Discussion / Re: Jim at Dragon*Con 2010
« on: September 12, 2010, 01:46:45 PM »
Oh my god, Dragon*Con was amazing. It was my first time at the convention- Jim + 18th birthday was kinda the impetus to finally go ;D
I foolishly showed up at the signing only an hour and a half early- and was 400th in line. A ton of people left, and I ended up being cut 6 people before the room. Yeah.....
So I went to the second signing, ended up being 4th in that one, which was then....sadly but predictably disbanded. The upside was that I got to meet a ton of Dresden fans (most of whom are probably on this forum!). And after that, I pretty much stalked all Butcher panels in hope of an impromptu signing. I was the Fellowship vampire next to the 6'9" Dresden (my brother) with an awesome Bob, if anyone remembers. Even though I never got a book signed, the panels were great, and Jim was hilarious. So, still a definite success! I really, really hope he goes next year..... And maybe D*C will plan for massive amounts of fans next year! ;)
And to Jim, thanks for braving the crush of humanity that is Con to come to the panels and signings! I don't know if you even managed to see any other part or panel, but your attendance was greatly appreciated! ;D

(I did manage to get Backup signed by Mignola, though!) :D :D :D

Oh, I'm sure there's room. ;) Or some sort of rotating schedule could be devised, at least. ;D

On the subject of book signing tours...
I know that Jim is probably the busiest man alive, but maybe on his next book signing tour he could, maybe, possibly, come down somewhere that could vaguely be described as South?  *puppy eyes, quivering bottom lip*

I know that much of the tour is set up around where he can fit in his schedule without it leading to full-blown overload, but maybe it could be looked into after the Codex Alera series ends this winter and Jim gets a little more free time :)

If I am ever asked my name while in the act of any sort of magic, I am not allowed to respond, "There are some who call me...Tim?"
Also, if I ever do take Carlos up on his offer to use a grenade, I am not allowed to make any kind of reference at all to the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

DF Books / Re: Did you discover the books because of the TV Show?

I've always thought of a signed books as a kind of memento and proof of getting to meet the author in the flesh. I don't think that the virtually signed books would carry the same kind of oomph as a signed book that you had handed to the author, watch him sign, and then had handed back to you.  At least, its that way for me; the signed book is all about the attached memory, not the literal signature :)

I saw the promos for the SciFi show, read the reviews that came out before the show was released, and... went out and bought the first 5 books at once a week before the show started ^^ (what, they were having a sale :D)
i liked the show a lot, but the books...hmmm...lets see...amazing? astounding? nirvana? pinacle of fantasy/SF literature? jim really created something amazing here- he should be proud. ;D Thanks from the rabid fan base!
