I keep thinking about the core crystal and wondering what role it will play in future books...Remember Grimm's and Rook's argument before Grimm was offered the job to work for SpireArch Albion...We know that core crystals are highly coveted, Preddy's core more so than others...but i get the feeling that there was more to Rook's interest in it. Also, Folly's experience with the disembodied voice of the "Enemy" was eerily similar to her experience with the "voice" of Predator. Makes you wonder if the "enemy" is also a sentient core crystal...

There were definitely times when I had to stop and remind myself that this was NOT the two-or-three centuries later, steampunk-y revisitation of Alera. At least, I don't *think* it is....

I mean, the Predator didn't appear to change with the installation of the new crystals-- it still sang while diving, and had some sort of awareness of/affection for Grimm that must have predated the new crystal.  I have a feeling Predator is going to end up on more than a few lists of 'more than a vehicle'.  Though I certainly wouldn't rule out crystals/the ether being sentient on top of that. 

Up to chapter 49 at the moment and the banter between Gwen and Journeyman gives a bit of insight into how the mechanics of airships and crystals work...

Y'know what would be awesome...if we could get an illustrated version of the MARK IV-D crystal manual! I love reading about technical steam-punk based thingamajigs!

Back in the early 2000's a now defunct comic publisher (CrossGen) released Meridian. It ran for about 4 years and it shares a lot in common with Cinder Spires; floating cities, skyward ships, steampunk aesthetics, house politics and coming of age stories. I was sad to see the story end abruptly when CrossGen folded. But after reading the 4 sample chapters of Cinder Spires I feel like I'm back in that world. Definitely going to pick this up.

I wander how Harry and Molly will handle their mutual winter hormone problem?

We know Harry will do his damnedest not to act on those impulses. But as Winter Lady, Molly is now in a position to compel Harry to do the "deed" (at least when he's under the influence of Winter). Given how she feels it will be interesting to see how she grapples with having that option.
